Hi everyone, I was just up early reading the NY Times and saw this article about the guy who organizes the NYC marathon. I thought you might enjoy reading it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/12/sp...th&oref=slogin

Have a great day all; and good runs. Nothing for me today as I'm sore from my upper body workouts yesterday, and I have a meeting early, and then we're heading to NYC for a Tori Amos concert this evening. Gotta hit our favorite gyro place before the show starts!

Good Morning Riley and Pro -

Sad article Riley . . .

Pro - I think I'm heading to the expo at lunch time to register . . . . and I'm stoopid - I'll be registering for the full after 3 not sooo good long training runs. You, on the other hand, had some very good long runs!

Did 2 miles on the TM this morning.

Good runs to all!

Pro.. Great luck tomorrow running in IRC!! What difference a week makes, eh? (btw..You are just about twice as fast as me for your 50's or 100's )

Riley.. sounds like a really fun weekend for ya!

FINALLY fall is here. 41F this morning and I wore gloves (with shorts and tee.. hee hee)

Here's the difference temperature makes for me:
Sunday: 10 miles race, 70's and humid, flat: 7:59 pace and heart rate 171 for most of it.. not pleasnt

Today: 10 miles GA run, 41F, with hills: 7:53 pace and heart rate 157-160 ...felt great

Not stoopid Pink. You'll be fine, the question is only how fine.

But....you fail to answer the real question. People would love to see you at lunch. In any case, we'll be hanging around the carousel pre-race.

So Pro coerced, er, I mean convinced Pink into running the full at Hartford... Good luck to both of you. Have fun!

Good luck millbot on your 5K tomorrow. What time are you shooting for?

Susan, gyros...yum! I bet they're just awesome in NYC.

I will be running another 3 mile run later today. It's a bit frustrating to me that these runs seem way harder than they should. I really need to find some patience as I begin this recovery. Unfortunately, it's not exactly one of my virtues!

Pink, no negative self talk -- keep those thoughts positive! Millbot, what's your 5k goal? Steve, it is so good to see you running strong these days after all that PF trouble. I had the BEST yoga class last night and am still jacked about it. I just love heating it up with all the vigorous strength stuff; I am getting stronger and stronger each session. Just wish I had the time to attend more frequently.

Best wishes to Hartford runners!

I've reset my goals - not every race needs to be a pr . . . I just want to run it at a decent pace and I'll be happy with that. I'll be just glad to do a marathon. I haven't done one since 2003.

But....you fail to answer the real question.
Don't I need to be a little mysterious from my original name?

Nice run JJJ!
Lab - you'll find patience . . . that or maybe they'll just start to get easier quicker!
Choovie - nice yoga classes. I'd love to take some and feel that good. I bought a yoga dvd . . . you know what happens with those . . . should use it as a coaster.
Millbot - good luck in your 5k! What are you shooting for?
Perch - nice 10!

inquiring minds want to know Millbot's goal time . . . channeling Millbot . . .

I'm off work today, so while my son is at grandma's for a few hrs, I am going to the gym. Tomorrow is my long run day, so will just do 4-5 on the TM but then plan on doing cross training . . . weights, abs and if my timing is right and there is a yoga/pilates class, I might join in on one of those and check it out. Today is the first day my abs haven't been sore in 3 days, so guess it's time to work them again. . .

Good luck to all the Hartford racers: Pink, Pro, mc (must be in the air now). Pink, I admire your outlook, but you may just surprise yourself too. Have FUN!

Millbot, you have trained for this 5k and you are going to ROCK it. Relax those shoulders and give 'er.

Mustang Sally, that was a terrific tempo run last night. The x-training seems to be working very well.

Hippo, you're just plain wild and crazy. Yeah, sure, I'd take you up on that invitation, but I have, um, a hangnail.

choovie, that was a great photo of you on CR yesterday. I love reading about your yoga. Wish I could wedge a class into my schedule.

Perch, that's amazing. I really admire you H&H runners. I think I'd wimp out. Give me the cold and rain any day.

Nice run, JJJ. So the calf/ankle's okay?

Lab, deep breaths. Just come here and post your frustration; it's worth it for entertainment value alone. Please, just don't push it; slow build.

Okay. Susan, I'll read the article when I return. Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I got a GL to the racers before I head out the door myself. I worked so hard yesterday, blech, my brain's a bit foofy.

Lab.... I always found that returning to running after injury, no matter what cross training, the HR would be high for the pace and it would feel hard. ... But there would be a significant drop in HR and effort within 2 weeks of resuming running. 4 weeks later, back to normal. Patience my Lab

I'm shooting for 21:00-21:30 (6:45-6:55/mi). My workouts suggest that this is a realistic goal, but I always struggle to convince myself that I can perform on race day.

Trying to think strong, speedy, relaxed thoughts...

Oh yeah, almost forgot: choovie, I have yet to see a bad picture of you. But I agree that the one you posted on CR is the best yet.

Millbot... Good luck! Curious, what is your strategy? My best 5K was watchless, Garminless, HRMless and splitless. I just ran as hard as I could and hoped to be alive at the finish. Isn't that how 5K's are run?

Thanks perch, I needed that!

5Ks suck...that's why I do so many of them. I'm a glutton for punishment! As for strategy, I have no recommendations. I've tried them all, I think. My PR was set when I had not trained for a 5K, and had no expectations. Go figure...

Strategy part 1 (Pro's strategy): Start fast and end fast. And don't slow down in the middle.

Strategy part 2: My BIL will be running this race with me. His goal is 21:00. I want to beat him.
