Jill- Glad you slowed down... but we're gonna have to work on rounding that distance! Maybe Chances won't see.

Mom- Enjoy the rest

zrun- Nice to see you back running.

I have decided to not do me long run today, and do it tomorrow. I just didn't feel mentally prepared for it, if that makes any sense. This will be my last long run before my taper, so I'd like to have a good showing. Gonna try to eat a little better tonight too (asked the DW to make spaghetti). Hopefully I can see tomorrow's run as a mock-run for the marathon.

Today I'm gonna do something easy just to keep the legs loose. 3 miles probably.

Mornin' campers.

I'm telecommuting today, hopefully so I can focus on a few things I really need to get done that just aren't going anywhere at the office. We'll see how that works, though. I've already been on one conference call and it's only 9:30.

I guess for "lunch" I'll take a little spin on the road bike, doing some neighborhood loops for 45-60 minutes. With temps forecast for the high 40s/low 50s and windy I'll be wearing my cold weather bike gear this time, unlike last weekend when I didn't in similar conditions and froze my butt off.

Recovery seems to be turning the corner. I actually turned last night's planned easy run into a progression run, though I didn't push the "fast" part at the end all that hard. Now, if I can just get rid of that last bit of left calf soreness...at least now it doesn't surface until about 5 miles in.

And oh yeah, I'm still trying to get my race report written. I have barely had a moment to breathe since getting back from NYC. Anyway, it's in a mostly completed draft state right now; hopefully I'll get it done today. If nothing else, I'd like to get it out before Jill takes center stage on Sunday.

Jill - nice job. So are you resting tomorrow? Wish I could come up to see your run but I've got too much going on down here.

4bm - enjoy the rest and let those legs run tomorrow

BBS - not a bad idea to do a dry run before your first marathon. Good luck going long tomorrow.

zrun - 20s? I love Chicago, one of my favorite cities to visit. Just not in winter which seems to start in November. To think you guys were still having summer on 10/10...

Da Bears! Nothing yet. My legs are a bit sore from the 10 miler + massage yesterday. If I have time, I'll hop on the TM this afternoon for a 5'er.

Hawk - That reminds me; I need to get the winter tires on my car... last year I waited and had to drive/sled to the dealer in snow (they store and swap out my summer and winter rims+tires). Have fun on the bike.

BBS - enjoy the loose 3. Sometimes my best runs are when I didn't feel like going long. Practice makes perfect. Getting your race week / race day nutrition and hydration sorted out is a good idea.

zruns - welcome back to running! Rather you than me this morning. I have to dig out my wind blocking apparel.

4boysmom - have a good "rest" day

Jill - yes that's good. As BBS noted, Chances is likely having a minor seizure after seeing the distance report...

Good morning all!

There you go Jill --- nice and easy -- you'll be able to show off your speed this weekend!

Enjoy the busy rest day (hmmmm oxymoron??).

Good to see you back out there Z!

Enjoy your "lunch" hawk -- sounds tasty...

Hope you can fit in that 5 Asics.

Well the good news is the race went very well yesterday. I ended up 2nd overall. Still waiting to see how our team did -- we are usually a shoe in for the faculty/staff division, but wondering how we did overall -- seemed like there were a lot of fast teams this year.

As usual all the college kids went out crazy fast -- I was probably ~15-20th by .25 miles, ~ 10th by .5, then moved up to 3rd by the top of the hill (~1.2 miles in). I managed to catch one kid on the way down, but the other guy just opened up a huge gap on me. I did manage to beat the guy who beat me last year (was 2nd overall last year too). Also as usual, half the field was already drunk at the start line and then the frat guys were handing out beers on the course (I declined). Such a fun time and a great adrenaline rush.

The bad news is that my knee is now completely shot. It was a little sore going into the race, but completely F-ed up after. Felt fine during the race, just when I went to jog afterward that I realized I was in terrible pain. I think the downhill pounding on an already sore knee was not a good thing. Hoping a few days of rest and ice will do the trick, otherwise, may have a doctor's appointment in my future...

Good morning everyone. After being on the phone for 30 minutes to sort out some issues with my phone I am reporting on my run. 5 miles again in 44:15(8:51). It felt nice and relaxed today.

Nice job on all the running/racing and resting.

kfuller - nice job on the 5'er. Perhaps if you're phone was OK, it'd have only taken 15 mins ? ;)

Loopy - awesome job on the hill race! Not so awesome about the knee. Perhaps too many miles on too many hills? Hope it calms down quickly.

I decided to bite the bullet and hit the work gym before the lunchtime rush. 5 recovery paced miles on the TM. Music plus watching ESPN and People's Court (could just about see the subtitles) made it almost bearable. However, not so much luck with the showers. 1st = no hot water; 2nd = no soap; 3rd = soap and scolding hot water.

Afternoon ride done a little while ago. 14 miles, out/back to Falls Church on the W&OD Trail. Was going at a pretty good clip until I got close to home again and back on regular streets. Early rush hour traffic compounded by school buses stopping and unloading...so much for powering it in all the way back home. That is, until I was back in my neighborhood climbing a steep hill, passing a dog walker when suddenly the mutt breaks off the leash and gives chase. And she definitely wanted a piece of me. Let's just say I found a little jolt of adrenaline that powered me up that hill a lot faster than normal.

Back to working from home now...at least I have our wooded back yard to look out on. Right now there are two very large deer roaming the yard. BBS is on his way no doubt.
