Sorry Todd, no gruesomeness to report right after you today.

Everyone I want to sincerely thank you for all the support...it really means a lot to me.

Well last night was a horrid event. Started an hour late because of the rain. Then after about 2 events was another 45 minute delay. they wouldn't cancel it though, because some team drove like 7 hours from WAY northern Wisconsin. By the time the 3200m rolled around it was probably about 8:45 maybe. At least it wasn't cold and rainy anymore. I am still unsure of my time officially, but I think it's around 10:34. Another PR but 5th place. Top 4 make it to state. After the race I heard the kid in 4th tell me congratulations again which I thought was kind of odd since he had just told me. Then he proceeded to tell me that he had been disqualified for stepping on/over the inside line too many times.

I AM GOING TO STATE BABY!!!! WOOHOO!!!

Sorry, but I wasn't even that excited last night and I needed to shout and scream to someone. Last night I was just kind of in shock and utter disbelief that my hard work paid off. I also felt kind of bad since I didn't really "make it" by normal standards but I did make it still so I am so excited!!!

Have a great day everyone!

5 miles on the treadmill for me today. Smooth sailing.

All right, Alex! Even if you got to the meet a little differently, you get the opportunity to compete at a very high level now! That's going to be great!

Congratulations Alex! Enjoy this opportunity to the fullest! Not to be a bummer about the future, but as you get older, you look back and remember those as being some of the best times of your life.

I still remember fondly when my high school basketball team went into St. Louis to face a much bigger inner-city school with two players on their team getting scholarship offers from Division I colleges. I played out of my head and completely outplayed one of those players by shutting him down while playing defense (despite being 5 inches shorter) and I missed a triple-double by two assists finishing the game with 15 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists while leading our team to victory on this other school's floor. That was 18 years ago...but I will never forget that game. Alex, I hope that you do so well at State that you will look back on it for the rest of your life and cherish what you accomplished this year.

BACK TO PRESENT DAY REALITY:

I ran four miles of recovery in the rain. I kept things especially slow and it felt really, really good. I also enjoyed the rain and the 57° temperature.

May yours be as enjoyable.

Alex: Congratulations! I'm so glad you're getting to go!

Me: 4.6 miles trails. It felt hot already, so I'm very grateful I got to run at 10 am instead of 5 pm. I had my dog along, and she was lagging by the end, poor baby!

Mikey...I'll get you the whole reports tonight after I get all the splits from XC Coach.

Official time was 10:34. Slowest time in the D3 state 3200m. Hopefully a PR comes from this.

Way to go, Alex!

Good luck to Meri and Durt this weekend!

5 miles at what should have been an easy pace (53:30). But with this cold I was slogging through it. Cleared out my sinuses, though.

Alex - Way to go man! So it wasn't the way you wanted to get to states, but you know what? You were in a position to take advantage of your opponent's misfortune! That's awesome!

Knock 'em dead at states!!!

As for me:

Plan tonight called for 11 mile medium-long run. I got the 11 miles in, albeit slower than I would have liked.

Daily Run Report

Date: 05/25/2007 Time: 15:25
Run Type: Just A Run
Distance: 11.0 miles
Total time: 01:58:05.8 Average Per Mile: 00:10:16.1
Course: OTHER COURSE
Max HR (for entire workout): 182
Average HR: 157
Shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 2 - 05/2007 Date Entered Service: 05/08/2007 Ending Mileage: 62.0
Weather: Sunny and hot.
Temperature: 90 Temperature Type: Ambient Air Time: Start
Temperature: 91 Temperature Type: Ambient Air Time: End
Dew Point: 56 Time: Start
Dew Point: 51 Time: End
Wind speed: 2 Max Gust: 10 Direction: VAR

MERRIMACK RIVER TRAIL

For those familiar with the trail, I added on from where the Wyndham Hotel trailhead meets up with the Merrimack River Trail out to the boathouse and back.

A very warm night out on the trail tonight. The last mile or so was a real struggle. To give you an idea, I was running about 10:20 per mile at that point, and had the HR in the 170s.

I know that is because of the heat. I deliberately took it easy on the way out hoping to have something left for the way back. Even then, it was a struggle on the way back.

I tried a new hydration strategy tonight. Instead of drinking every 2 miles like I normally do, I tried drinking every 15 minutes (which at my pace tonight was less than every two miles). I think it helped. Had I tried drinking every two miles tonight, I think I'd been a hurting pup.

Saw lots of neat stuff tonight. Tons of squirrels, 3 ducks, I believe a blue herron, and only one other runner (and a dog named Daisy).

Run Segments
I would love to watch you run, Alex!
That is assuming DH and I get up to LAX early enough to score a parking spot and to get into the stadium on time!
Our teams will run sometime after 4pm.
