.83 miles OW in Lake Michigan. Water turned and it was mid 50s maybe a bit colder. I wanted to go more, like 2 miles, but my feet never recovered and still sting. Probably not safe to continue, i guess sometimes you should be smart about these things. No one else was out there, teammates wouldn't swim, usually lots of people, I guess I didn't get the memo, but glad I got to swim!

Plan a run and bike later, but may do it indoors, because of storm potential. Then off to Wisco later tonight. Have a good friday!

Got up to go swim with people in Mirror lake, but bagged that due to a rip in the armpit of my wetsuit. I think it will be fine, but I'm not risking it. I'll glue it up and take it to the expo and see what happens. It will survive, but why take the risk and go crazy about it.

edited: that was Adam, obviously. I did actually swim (sans wetsuit), about half a lap.

Woke up to a torrential down pour, but I didn't hear any thunder so I sucked it up and headed to masters swim at the 50 m outdoor pool. Sprints today and it was really fun. Only 5 of us in the pool and 2 coaches so lots of individual attention. Totally worth putting up with the rain. Calling my BIL over to watch the kids this afternoon so I can head out for 8 km or so run. Supposed to be really muggy so we'll see how long I last.

Woke up and my neck was killing me. Hot shower helped a bit, I can't wait for my doctor/chiropractor appointment this afternoon. I will try a 30-45 minute ride followed by a 15 minute run around lunch. If I have time I am going to hop in the pool for a half hour swim before the doctor. I have a sprint tri tomorrow, I don't want to do too much today, but do enough.

Good luck to everyone training today and racing this weekend....especially the IMLP folks (AdCo, etc.).

Rest day. Was off to the Blodgett Pool at Harvard this AM watching DD swim 2 of her 3 Age Group championship races. Finished mid-pack: 32.14 for 50 LCM free (37/70 OA), and 34.95 for 50 LCM fly (20/38 OA). She's scratching one other race she qualified for (100 LCM free), and back again on Sunday for a single race (100 LCM Fly).

Now back at work, procrastinating (but not working out at lunch).

Also, getting a carbon fork put on the bike today. Wonder if I will actually notice a ride difference...

Long run this morning in the drizzle. About 10.7 miles in 2:05. Ran from the Wildwood Motel, into town, along the IMLP run course and back (turning around before the course turn around) stopping at the expo. Loved viewing the Olympic Ski Jump center on the way back in...those athletes must me NUTS! The hilly bit back into town kind of slowed me down. Longest run since Feb 22, 2009! I felt pretty good during and after, but was super-glad that the folks in the ART tent were willing to do some work on an athlete who is only volunteering at IMLP.

Have come to the conclusion that the Boston Marathon has THE BEST expo EVER.

Yesterday, I rode for 2 hours starting at the hotel, heading north around Mirror Lake, following the run course, then headed East along 86 for a bit before turning around and following the run course back into town. Repeated the run course to 86 to town part again. Was fun! And, so beautiful that I almost cried while I was on the bike. As I was near the swim start during the first part of my ride, some folks carrying a sign held it up for me. It said, "Nice muscles!" I imagine it's for race day, but I so enjoyed that they held it up for me! I got back to the hotel and rested a bit. Then, Adam and I swam one loop of the swim. Nice having that cable line!

Of the many, many marathons I have run, only the London Marathon expo comes close to Boston's. It's the best. But it is getting far too crowded for my liking. Bigger venue would help with that. But I like the location.

Nice job on the run. I have nightmares about the run back into town starting with the hill at the horse stables and finishing with the hill into town. That last hill nearly killed my race at Lake Placid in '08. It certain took me to a new level of fight I never knew I had. Good memories of a perfect race.
