Happy Friday. I joined the tri group at our lifetime fitness this morning for a core class. 60 minutes. Pretty good stuff. Later a fartlek run, haven't decided whether to go inside or out. Cheers!

David - that's a strong pace for Z1.

Scott - That core class will do you good. I miss being able to do mine every Friday morning.

On the treadmill again this morning. After a 2 mi WU, 8 x 0.4 mi with 2 min recovery, then a cool down for the remainder of the hour. The treadmill speed read 5:42 min/mi for the intervals, my footpod recorded 5:49, 5:49, 5:47, 5:47, 5:44, 5:43, 5:46 and 5:42 min/mi. Recovery pace was about 9 min/mi. 8.2 mi covered total.

Then a 15 min recovery spin on the exercise bike.

TGIF everyone! Well, for you guys. For me its just another work day.

Rest day for me. Missed my swim last night in order to help the neighbor and his son fill out their first FAFSA form, but at least I got a good trainer workout in. 20 min at 85%, 3 min rest, then 7 min descending gears, 1 min each. The 53/12 was a very long minute.

Thanks for that ugly reminder Matt. We're now adding DS's FAFSA to our winter-form-list-requirement. He said to me the other day- What's with growing up and having all of this paperwork to do on a regular basis? Yeah, welcome to the world dear boy!!!!

Tonight I have a 2 mile easy run planned.

Starting tonight and then every other Friday, I'll be helping to teach swimming to special needs kiddos. Their goal is to swim 25-50 yards (freestyle or backstroke) for a swim meet in April. I'm kind of nervous and also really looking forward to it.

What kind of watch/foot pod are you using? Mine seems to be registering a little faster than the TM. I have calibrated it twice outside. The first time it was registering about .15 miles short per mile. Now it is pretty darn close, hitting 1.02 per mile on the TM. Of course the elevation seems to make a difference of well.

I love FAFSA!!! Okay, somehow that just sounds wrong. Really, I love helping kids get to college - reminds me of a special project that is taking flight...

Another morning commute this morning meant a little ice walk to start the day. Runnin' on the TM after work. Studio has been closed all week and I'm feeling the withdraw. Opens back up tomorrow though!

I got the footpod for my trusty Garmin ForeRunner 305. My first attempt at calibration was outside on a track, but it had snowed the night before and my Garmin was showing 0.58 mi for the 800m calibration test (I couldn't see the lanes because of the snow). I calibrated it on the treadmill when I got up north and it was still disagreeing with the treadmill. I think I'll calibrate it on the track when I'm back home, test it again on the track, and leave it there. I've heard that the calibration on treadmills can be poor, to say the least.

Happy to report my lower leg pain from yesterday didn't bother me much during a slow 6 miles wearing spike thingies on the shoes on combination of snow-packed poor footing/wet road. I have been massaging the area frequenty and doing icepack & heat treatment. It is very sore if I push it but no pain at all during a normal course of daily activities (of course that includes running). What a weird acute injury. I couldn't even walk right after a TM run. Darn TM. It became a little sore toward the end of the run as the lower legs needed to work harder to stablize uneven footing on snow. It doesn't look like I am missing any runs. Phew!

Yosh- have you been to a PT and/or gotten a massage yet? this sounds right up their alley. I've got a great PT I can drop in on most anytime and he'll look over any injury or concern and let me know if I should get a Dr note or just do some stuff at home. Building that kind of relationship is PRICELESS. Has to be the right kind of person though... 2/3 of the time he tells me not to come back and do stuff at home. A bad person would always tell me to get a note.... (more $ for them). Anyway, a quality massage person could also probably help work it out and allow you to heal faster.

Scott - you did not just call Mike fat?!?! OMG Laughing my butt off!

Me, a 30min Z2 run. Ended sick to my stomach. Uh oh. DW was up hurling last night and all day today. Hope I'm not getting it.

On the flip side since she was DOWN a full 24 hours of nothing (and I mean nothing) I stayed home from work and ended up getting to be a Science Fair judge. I had a really good time actually! I got to judge the 1st-3rd graders (some, not my 2nd grader of course!). They were so friggin cute, hard to score them down on anything. Some were sooooo serious. Love it. First year for our school and we had 70-75 kids participate. No awards (which i can't say I agree with), no extra credit, nothing but for the love of it. I know my boys put in quite a bit of effort and had a great time. So much so, they were playing with each OTHERs experiments when we got home :) DS1 and his partner scored PERFECT and DS2 got 91% on the judging. Not bad!
