<p>This is both fun and not fun: I saw DS last night, he's doing much better - up to a level 2, which is great. <span id="user_yui_3_3_0_8_130589626848726"><img alt="smile.gif" id="user_yui_3_3_0_8_130589626848725" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif" style="width:16px;height:16px;"></span> They were into a big game of Risk and he wanted to get back to it so our visit was short, but pleasant.  He told me I didn't have to come every. single. night. <span id="user_yui_3_3_0_8_130589626848715"><img alt="sad.gif" id="user_yui_3_3_0_8_130589626848714" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/sad.gif" style="width:15px;height:15px;"> </span> But I DO! I MISS him.  sigh. Apparently, I'm the only parent who's out there every night.  While I was there a Mom came and dropped off a bag of clothes for her kid and the guy asked if she was staying to visit with her son and she said "No, I'm exhausted".  WTF? She's already driven out there, why not stay for 15 minutes?? jeez.</p>

<p>I was hoping to garden this weekend but it looks like rain until Tuesday. bah. I am very very tempted to leave work at noon (providing the rain hasn't already started) and spend the afternoon in the yard.</p>

<p>I have been completely swamped at work.  Had a ton of motions due today and expected to be at work until the wee hours last night.  Then the judge entered an order changing all of our deadlines to next Friday!  Woot!  I was literally doing the happy dance in the hall yesterday.    I still have a ton of work to do, but now it is 10-12 hour days - not 20.  Whew.</p>

<p><strong>NOT FUN:</strong>  FIL is coming into town tonight to stay for the weekend.  We haven't seen him in FOUR years.  Needless to say, I am stressed out.  DH is very stressed out too.  Fortunately DSes are supah excited.  Hopefully FIL won't be a total flipping douchecanoe, but I don't have high expectations.  He was supposed to come in February, but bailed that morning because he had a head cold and did not want to get on a plane (even though he travels ALL.THE.TIME).  Hopefully he'll show this time.  Gah.  Anyone want to come meet me for a glass of wine before I have to go home tonight? </p>

<p><strong>Fun</strong>:  My dept hosted breakfast for our MS teaching staff this morning in appreciation for the very hectic couple of weeks of state testing that we all just survived.  I brought in 2 baked French Toast casseroles - 1 caramel pecan and 1 cinnamon sugar blackberry.  Along with a crockpot of turkey sausage.  SO good!</p>

<p><strong>More fun: </strong> Hockey tournament in Ottawa this weekend - and it supposed to be sunny!</p>

FV are just his initials.  I'm trying to stop thinking of his as the <em>older gentleman</em> (he is significantly older than me...which IS a little weird, I'll admit, esp since I look like I'm a decade or more younger than I am, according to everyone, incl bouncers and bartenders.)  I like him though, although as I said, I'm not sure what to make of him.  I think he likes me but I also know for a fact, he doesn't want to date women outside of our neighborhood of Boston, so there have been slim pickings for him.  I might just be Ms Right Place Right Time.</p>

<p>I have lots of news, but if I tell all right now, I will hog the entire thread, and really - who needs that?</p>

<p>The quick news is - I got a job!!   Starting Monday, I will be working at a small firm in North Philly.   I'll be doing some criminal defense and some civil litigation as well.  Hopefully a bit more civil work!!   Although, it won't hurt to get familiar with the criminal justice system in Philly.   There are some good things about it and some things that aren't so great (no benefits is a BIG one).   But, I like the people.  That's a great start.   And, I get to keep teaching at Widener at night, which ROCKS.</p>

<p>This has been an incredibly difficult journey.  I knew the economy was in the toilet, and that the legal market had been hit equally hard.  But honestly, I had no idea it would take EIGHT FREAKING MONTHS to land a job.  Ugh.  Along the way, there have been some serious disappointments, and one unbelievable body blow recently.  It's been a challenge to keep a positive attitude about it, so please forgive me for not coming in here and sharing.</p>

<p>I have TONS to catch up on with all of you, and I am looking forward to it.   Thank you all for the job vibes that were sent out repeatedly!!! </p>

<p>I will happily share the recipes - they're not <em>that</em> bad for you. <span><img alt="biggrin.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="width:16px;height:16px;"></span>   I make it every Christmas morning or when we have company.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>For each casserole I used:</p>
<p> </p>
<p>1 loaf bread (can use French, but I like Italian better) sliced 3/4 to 1 inch</p>
<p>5 eggs</p>
<p>1c half and half</p>
<p>1.5c milk (I used skim)</p>
<p>1t vanilla</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Spray a 13x9 casserole with non-stick spray. Mix eggs, h&h, milk and vanilla. Layer bread slices in dish.  Pour egg mixture over.  Let set in fridge overnight. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>For caramel pecan topping - before baking, combine 1/2c melted butter with 1c brown sugar and 1c chopped pecans, cover bread with mixture</p>
<p>For cinnamon sugar blackberry - before baking, top the casserole with blackberries, sprinkle with 2-3T cinnamon sugar</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Bake at 350* for 40-50 minutes.<span style="display:none;"> </span></p>
<p> </p>
<p>I made 2 of these, but the bread seemed to need more liquid (I think b/c I used the Italian instead of French bread), so I made another egg-milk mixture (same amounts) and split it b/w the 2 (ended up using almost all of it) and it was perfect. </p>
