Up and at em!

3M on the hamster wheel last night, and I swear, I haven't been so happy to do 3 miles in ages. They weren't the easiest 3, but they surely weren't killing me either. Take THAT you punk cold/bug/allergy thing.

I am seeking a bit of advice: Considering I ran 7 on Sun, then nothing until last night's 3 - should I run another 2-3 tonight or just rest again for tomorrow's half? Perhaps I shouldn't push my luck, but I'm jonesing to get some more numbers back for my weekly total!

Go Ailarie! Who else is racing this weekend?

I'm heading to DC tomorrow with my sister and mom. Sis is running MCM on Sunday.

I'm not.

But I will run something (short, easy) this afternoon.

Ailarie - good luck this weekend!! Running today or taking the day off totally depends on what you are trying to do in tomorrow's race. If I'm "racing it", I like to take the day before off. If it's "just a run", then I would run the day before. If you're shooting for a PR I'd say ignore your weekly mileage total. PR trumps miles.

Have a good weekend solar.

6+ easy miles for me this morning. Great temps for my shorts and short sleeves this morning. Perfectly cool.

Soon enough, Lora. Soon enough. Have fun cheering sis on!

I considered getting up and running a 4-5 mile recovery run. But I decided sleep would be better preparation for the half marathon tomorrow. We were up kind of late watching and then bemoaning the Seminoles' performance last night.

I have supah fun races on tap this weekend:

Haunted Hustle Half Marathon (goal = TBD, but as hard as I can. Would like to be around 1:40; will be happy under 1:45)

Madison Mud Run (goal = have fun with my boy and his first race over 5K!)

Here are some course details:

“Madison’s Dirtiest Race” is the most fun you can have running almost 5 miles. How “tough” is it? It is as tough as you want it to be. The course is designed for everyone. Perfect for recreational runners competing in their first 5 mile race and still challenging enough to the semi-professional athlete. This event has something for all to enjoy.

Obstacles: This event will be filled with obstacles including:

1. Wicked Water Crossing: Waste deep cold water that will get you dirty and wet early in the race.

2. Freaky Foam Tunnel: A dark tunnel with Halloween themed music and strobe lights filled with sudsy foam.

3. Witch's Wall Climb: A 5' tall wall with rock climbing holds to help you scale it.

4. Spooktacular Slippery Slope: A short, steep climb that is difficult to reach the top.

5. Haunted Forest: A dark forest filled with creepy ghosts and goblins.

6. Creepy Crawl: 30" plastic tubes that are 10 feet long. Crawl through these tubes to reach the other side.

7. Obstacle Course of Doom: A 52' long inflatable obstacle course that includes barriers, a wall climb, and a fun slide.

8. Terrifying Tires: A pile of tires that is sure to slow even the fastest runners. Watch your step as you navigate the treacherous terrain.

9. Hell's Hurdles: Picture a steep hill, going up of course, filled with hay bale hurdles to slow your ascent. Stay fast and smooth to clear these hurdles.

10. Skeleton Slip and Slide: 100' of scary slip and slide, just like when you were a kid. And just the the skeleton in the Olympics!

11. Werewolf Wall Climb: Another 5' tall wall climb. This one has ropes to help you get over it.

12. Black Cat Balance Beams: 4 inches wide and 40 feet long. These beams are guaranteed to test your focus and footing.

13. Spider Web Crawl: A 6 foot high pyramid of cargo nets. Can you be the fastest spider through this challenging web?

14. Pyramid of Pumpkins: A pyramid built from hay bales and pumpkins. Scale this pyramid and head for the last two obstacles. You are almost there!

15. Scarecrow's Swamp Crossing: One more challenge to slow you down and make sure you remain wet and muddy throughout this event. This is just a warm up for the Mud Pit that is awaiting you.

16. Mummy's Mud Pit: Knee deep mud that participants MUST crawl through. This mud will surely be cold, but don't let that stop you. The showers and free beer and chicken wings await you at the finish line

Good morning, ladies.

Ailarie, I think Jill has some good advice.

Sounds like a fun race, RIL.

Lora, you're doing all the right things. Just be patient, and you'll be back to your old running self in no time...

I took yesterday off from running to spend more time in my attic putting down new insulation. Yeesh, this is a time-consuming project!

I'll do an easy run today, and then I'll do a 5k race tomorrow. Two years ago, I won my first ever AG award at this race. So I'm holding out hope that no new fast guys show up this year.

Morning Gang -

Sounds like Tanya made a smart choice last night!

Lora - have fun cheering sis on. Happy you will get to run a bit too!

Ailarie - I like doing a couple miles the day before a race, but if you are still sort of recovering from cold/bug, maybe rest is better.

Here's hoping no new guys show up tomorrow boB!

Mindi - good luck tomorrow!! And have fun with your DS on Sunday. Sounds like it'll be a great weekend!

I got 8 miles done today. 24 degrees. Yipee!

Good runs and rests to all today!

Me. E-Racing the Blues 10K on Sunday. A nice late start for this one -- 9:30 a.m. Aaaah yeah.

Good luck Bob, Ailarie and RIL!!! RIL, that race on Sunday sounds fun. I'm seriously considering this one in April. They estimate that it will take the average person 2 1/2 hours to run the 7 mile course! and

Ailarie, I think I would rest today. Remember, you can't make up for lost miles at this point. The best thing you can do is go into the race tomorrow rested and ready. Eat well today, hydrate, and relax!

Tonya, I like your training plan.

Bob! I remember when you won your AG. Good luck!

Theia, ahhhh, the 10k you've been cramming for, I mean training for. I'll be thinking about you on Sunday. Run strong, woman!

That sounds like a great weekend RIL. Good luck in the half and have a great time with your boys.

RFTL, nice! Those temps have to feel so refreshing. Crazy that just a couple months ago the weather was the complete opposite.

How ya feeling phdatc? I am totally looking forward to happy hour tonight - just have to stick to one or two beers since I have 24 miles to get through tomorrow am.

Or.... a couple of DAYS ago! And you're right. I have been cramming.

I'm back because I forgot to report on last night's workout. My directive was to do three 400s at 10K race pace (which is an 8:00 pace, so 2:00 each), and then four 200s all out.

Well, the 400s were too fast and the 200s were too slow.

1:49

(Oops. I really tried to slow down! The good news is, I felt pretty good doing them.)

4x200
:47
:47
:49
:48

(I tried to do the 200s all out, but those paces are a good 6-8 seconds off where I know I could be.)

The cramming is officially done!

I ran 1.73 yesterday due to time constraints. Then went and got new shoes..which I sorely needed.

Running something tonight 4 or 5 I hope. This week has been bad

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I certainly do not have plans to push for a PR at this point, with some of the sinus issues still lingering. I guess at the end of the year, another 3 miles isn't really going to be a big deal in the total number traveled, so a rest day it shall be.

RIL - Wow that race sounds like a BLAST! Except for having wet squishy shoes in winter. Thar part doesn't sound so appealing, but the rest is way cool. I'd be all over that.

Good luck this weekend to Bob, RIL and Theia.

Ril - you're just a bit on the freaky side.

Had a chiro appmt this morning and he said things are squishing back into place nicely, now we just need for the tendons to shrink back to their normal size. (Being all out of wack stretched them out or something.) Anyway, things are much improved, but he wants me to wait a while yet for things to heal before increasing mileage. I'm hoping to be able to start increasing by the end of the year so I'll be able to do a spring race. Even if it's not a fast one, I'd just like to be able to train for one.

No run for me today, but I have already spent a couple hours in the studio, and could pretty much stand to spend another 10 hours down there. Too much to make, not enough time.

Hi all - again, brief wave-by from me. Some strength stuff yesterday; ankle was sore as heck - not sure why.

Good luck boB, Theia and all you other racers this weekend! We're going to have to compare notes RiL - I've got my Warrior Dash obstacle race tomorrow and it promises to be a sloppy mess with the rain we've been having over the past couple weeks. Good luck to you!

Good luck Bob, Ailarie, Alexis, Mindi and Moonie!

Saw the surgeon this morning. He thinks that the achilles sheath is more of an issue than the tendon itself. Now that the swelling is abated, he wants me to go ahead and start on the underwater treadmill - working my way up from fast walking to 10:00 pace over 4 weeks with a progression from chest deep to waist deep water. He said to throw in some low-resistance cycling and elliptical for variety. Next appt. in a month and if all is good he'll have me start in on the roads. If it doesn't respond well, then he says surgery to "nick" the affected areas to promote a healing response.

Good luck, Moon! I wanted to do a Warrior Dash near here (an hour or so away), but I just could not justify $75 for a 5K. I'll be anxious to hear all about it!!
