It will be tough to get in my tempo workout tonight afterschool and before we leave for the basketball game. I think I should be all right if I minimize the warmup and cooldown though.

It's Friday! Have a great day!

Good luck fitting in your run, Alex.

Rest day from running for me, but I plan a good weights session followed by a hot tub soak this afternoon.

brianinptown, to answer your question yesterday about my shoes. The toenail problems are cosmetic and blisters so far are slightly annoying after and haven't yet affected runs. I've run in the NB 76x series for 4 1/2 years and like how the shoes feel on my feet. But, I do plan to explore other models next time I'm due. Maybe Brooks or even Nike.

Happy Friday, y'all! Good luck to this weekend's racers!

I have a gym session for this evening after work, I'll probably warm up by either rowing or eliptical trainer. Then it will be doing a weight circut training to get some tone in my upper body!

Have fun with your run today Alex!

SGH, I used to run in NB all the time but after going to a regular running store they let me know that the NB was not fitting to my running stride. I've been primarily in Asics since then.

Good morning all.

Did 49 mins on the trails this morning - a bit faster than normal and it felt good. Plan to get a 20ish miler in this weekend, but have not decided which day yet...

Good luck to everyone who will be racing!

Your tempo run is more important- skip out of school early Alex.

Enjoy the well earned rest Richard.

SGH that hot tub soak sounds pretty good with the temps I have headed my way. I used to run in NB's also because I couldn't find too many other shoes that fit well. I've switched to Nike's because I found a place that always has the same model for a reasonable price. Although- I might be in the market for a pair of racing flats and I'm open to any brand there.

Good luck on the upper body work Trecker.

Trails...sounds like fun Loopy.

Got an uneventful 10 in last night.
Amazingly enough, I actually dragged my butt out of bed this morning to get my easy 6 recovery miles in. My wifes getting back from an audit tonight, so I thought it'd be nice if I didn't take off for a run as soon as she gets back.

Good luck to all our racers this weekend.

My back is in some serious pain today - I took the entire day off from working out yesterday, but it managed to get worse. I've noticed that running actually makes it feel BETTER, so I'll give that a shot at lunch and see how it feels.

It's one of those days where I cannot even touch my knees - seriously - I couldn't tie my shoes this morning. Ouchie.

I've definitely got to do something about this. Anybody have any stretches for inflexible people?

TGIF!!! No REALLY TGIF!! I don't know about you guys but this week seemed really really long.

Alex enjoy the tempo
Mailbox.. I am sure she will appreciate your thoughfulness.
Loopy - good way to start the day.
trecker - enjoy the gym. hopefully it won't be crowded.
SGH- yikes. sounds like you might want to look at a new shoe or up it a size.
richard - enjoy the day off. I had one yesterday and it felt good.

For me I am scheduled for 6 today, but not sure if it will be inside or out. Wether is iffy. I plan on heading out at 4pm, so if weather is good it will be outside, but if raining it will have to be inside on TM.

Good luck to all the weekend racers...

Hawk - are you playing indoor soccer? Daughter is in peak of the season plus joined a co-ed team on Sundays.. Playing with the guys has been a really good experience for her, however schedule is crazy. Tourn. on Sat., Sunday morning HS girls team plays a game and then she has the coed team Sunday afternoon. Crazy thing is she loves all the game time. Let's just say hubby is not too thrilled

Catch up later guys.. gotta work

Alex - have a great run if you get it in. If not, don't sweat it. You're smart.

trecker - have fun at the gym later. I'm going to be there too, unfortunately.

loopy - nice one on the trails already this morning.

Mailbox - if your wife doesn't appreciate that, I do.

Nirvana - I feel you. I have sore legs that just won't seem to get better. Seriously
already. It looks like another day of elliptical. Strengthening them seems all I can do at this point.

Apple - I agree. This week has been TOO long.

Like I said above, I have some nagging soreness in my legs. I talked to Phillip about it last night and came to the conclusion that I am just going to keep doing the elliptical machine until further notice. I'm hoping it will be over by Sunday. Then it might be that I will have a split week for this week: 3 days of elliptical, 3 days of running. That would suit me fine. It's not like I'm losing fitness. The elliptical machine is great cross-training if you do it with the same intensity as you run (or with more intensity, like I seem to always want to do, ha).

Sometime I may tell you all what sort of workout I do on the elliptical machine. I paid very close attention last night to what the settings were and such, so I have a pretty good idea.

Oh--I didn't ever post last night's workout. It was, of course, on the elliptical.

12.99 miles, 66 minutes, and I looked, and that equates to 5:04 pace

Boy, am I glad to see you people! Been all work the last couple weeks, no play. You know, I feel like such a "dull boy" when my world is like that. Hey, that's pretty catchy. Someone should invent a saying . . .

Alex -- Enjoy the tempo run. My favorite category.

Richard & SGH -- Enjoy the break.

Trecker -- Have a good gym session.

Loopy -- Nice cardio. And a 20-miler? I sense an upcoming 26.2, no?

Mailbox -- Way to get 'er done early. And that audit -- she's conducting one, right? I've heard that the other way around, particularly by a certain federal agency, can be uncomfortable.

Nirvana -- Sorry you're hurting, my friend. And I wouldn't dare give you stretching advice. I don't do it enough, and I'm pretty sure when I do, it's wrong.

Apple -- I so love your doggy pic! Amen to TGIF. Enjoy your six, inside or out.

Me -- Probably six out along the river. I'm exhausted from travel, yet I was up at 4:30 this a.m. Got in four ridiculous junk miles on a Japanese hotel treadmill in L.A. yesterday. Blech.

Until there's a reasonable break in my schedule, my mileage is going to suffer. So, fair warning to all, I'll be much crabbier than usual. I expect your sympathy and support, and, of course, your unqualified adoration.

Good runs and rests. And Asics, Hawk, Jen, Flounder and Dave -- tear it up this weekend! Looking forward to your reports.

Good morning everyone. No running for me today. I think it will be a total rest day except for some stretching.

Nirvana-- Sounds like you could benefit from going to the Chiropractor. I hope the back gets better.

Tonya-- 5:04 pace!!! Wow, that is cruising. I think you are going to PR at every distance you try this year.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning all!

Alex--don't listen to Mailbox!

Nirvana--hope your back gets to feeling better.

Tonya--don't you have a coach you can bounce ideas off of???

Groundhog day here... Fishbowl first thing. 60mins steady. Meeting with my swim coach next week so hopefully we can start working on pace.

Then for a run. Didn't notice anything when I started my run on the road, but when I turned onto the sidewalk/bike path, it was slippery! We had a 'wintery mix' last night and places were covered with a light coating of ice. Never did get a good push off. Then, my turn around is at a corner where the city put in this stupid 'decorative' stony brick crap. It's slipperier than shit when wet, so you can imagine how slippery it is when covered with ice. Yep. I went down. Hard. On my knee and hands. With people watching. Finished out my run. Back in the locker room I got a look at my knee. It's cut up pretty good... 4.5m, 39:33, 8:46pace

But, it's Friday. Finally! Planning on going up to visit Grandma this afternoon.

Yes, I'm playing on Sunday nights (no game this weekend, however as we have a bye). Glad to hear your daughter enjoys the coed; it's a good game. In the spring & fall I manage a coed team that plays in a local league here and my wife plays on the team as well. By the way, she much prefers coed to women-only.

Some good workouts going up already today. As for me, I just have a recovery run planned since I'm one of tomorrow's racers.

Time to get some work done but I'll check back later.

I signed up at the Y yesterday. I'm jealous in a good way of all the swimming you folks do. I want to play, too.

4boysmom crystallized it for me. I love the "in the fishbowl" thing. And, I really appreciate you saying that you are perceived as, well, swimming in a less than aestheticly pleasing way. I'm sure I can swim uglier than you can. Thanks for the inspiration. Seriously.

Plus, I need more ways to score VRAA points.

Here's to great workouts and great races, everyone!

TGIF indeed!

My schedule calls for 3 miles today but still I'm a little sore (all that sitting around on Wednesday) and that's making me anxious for the race tomorrow... I'm going to be a basket case in the morning! Anyway, probably go out for a short recovery jog around the neighborhood. At least it'll be in shorts and t-shirt... high in the mid 60s and not a cloud in the sky. This trip will end way too soon; then it'll be back to frozen Chicago.

Tonya - your elliptical workout sounds scary... please share with caution
Nirvana - hope the back loosens up. There are some Yoga for Runners DVDs around that may help in the long run (no pun intended).

Have a great day and good luck to my fellow racers this weekend...

Tonya & Nirvana -- sorry you're hurting.

Nirvana, without knowing what is going on with your back it is hard to give suggestions. Some stretches for the lower back are Child's pose (you can Google Image this), lying on your back while hugging either one knee at a time or both knees to your chest, and gentle reclining twists. You can do that by lying on your back with your legs bent and together, stretching your arms straight out from your shoulders, and keeping your shoulders on the floor while gently and slowly lowering both legs to the same side. But if your back is very inflamed/aggravated even those might be too much.

Apple -- with 1 1/2 sizes up I still have toenail issues. Now I'm 2 sizes up from my street shoe size and am discovering new places that blister.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I will try some stretching and different exercises. I'm hoping that simply stretching will make this go away, but if not I might have to go see the doctor. Blah!

Alex - have a good run later.

Richard - Enjoy your rest. My race isn't until next Saturday 16 Feb. That was my fault.

SGH & Kevin - Enjoy your rest day.

Trecker - Have a good workout later.

loopy - Nice run this morning. Have a great long run over the weekend.

Mailobx - Great run last night.

Nirvana - Hope you back get better. What did you do? I must have missed it. I know your pain. I found a book that really helped me. Once I get home I will PM you the name. It was well worth the money.

Apple - Hope you get your run in later outside. It is much bette than on the TM.

tonya - Incredible run! 5:04 pace I would say you are not human, but you are showing signs of pain. Great job.

4BM - Great job once again. How long did it take you before you could swim 30 min continously? I struggle right now to make it 15 min without stopping. I would love to make it an hour continously, but definately not going to happen anytime soon.

Billy - Good for you. The pool is putting a hurting on me. I can't make it 15 min without resting. It is a workout. I am getting there though.

RA - Have a good run later.

I put 7 miles or so on the trails this morning. Running in a canyon so the hill were pretty rough. Great run and some better hill training. Running down through the middle of the creek was pretty cool and cold. Anyhow, I stopped the Garmin when we stopped to wait on some folks and I forgot to restart it. So I know I did atleast 5.7 probably closer to 7+ or more. I will have to check later once I get home. I ran this route before.

I am looking to do a swim/bike brick at lunch. maybe 500 m followed by 10 - 15 miles or so.

happy training all.
