Good morning all.

Thanks for the condolences everyone -- I am just so glad I got to see my grandmother when we visited MA in late December...

Did 10 miles on the mountain road route this morning -- cold, but not too bad... more ice/snow in store for us this weekend... ughhh

Whoops! I posted in the other thread. Good morning!

Long run this afternoon. It will be on the 'mill if the predicted freezing rain shows up. I'm not a weather warrior like you, loopy!

Loopy- Sorry for the loss. Hope the weather gets better your way

Jebba- Good luck with the long run on the TM... I hope I never see that day.

I think I'm gonna take an unscheduled rest day... Got a hamstring bothering me, plus a pretty bad shin splint that has been nagging me during runs, has been bothering me since my run yesterday- btw which was not good. Did 1 mile w/u, then got thru 2 800s before I decided to just cruise till I got to 3 miles total. I may also cut back the miles on tomorrows long run. Obviously something in my training has not agreed w/ me.

BBS - how much rest did you take after your marathon? Did you do the ole reverse taper? When is your next race? I recall you mentioning something about a 5k? Is that why you are doing all other intervals?

Jebba - sounds like TM weather to me...

Loopy - nice job on the 10. Fingers crossed you don't get hit too hard with the snow

Well, I'm about to hit the TM to work off the frustration from a crappy commute. I took a slightly different route to avoid some snow related congestion but traded that for an even worse road further down. I was not a happy camper. I can't figure out why both lanes are plowed on one side of the road yet a variable 0.5 to 1.5 lanes on the other side. It's unlikely to change for a long time as the snow is now frozen. There are mountains of snow that will likely be around until May.

In other news, last night I registered for the New York City marathon. I now have to wait for my status to go from "Lottery" to "Accepted", based on my masters marathon qualifying time. When that happens I'll be in excited panic mode.

MTA: 5 miles on the mill. An old episode of The X Files was on followed by the Top Gear (the original UK version not the crappy US copy). Interestingly, it was an episode from season 9 that had a bit about the first car to have the current control layout. They went to Beaulieu Motor Museum - that's down the road from where I grew up... plus they drove by the pub, on "Hill Top", where we had lunch after visiting the museum over the holidays.

Mornin' team and happy Friday.

Hill repeat workout on tap for me today, on the the TM. Why? Because there are no significant hills to speak of near work and there's still too much snow/ice on the streets anyway to be safe for running. I'm thinking of maybe MP hill repeats of 2 minutes each at 2%-4%-6%-8% then back down.

Weekend plans are still in flux a bit. I'm heading up to Philly again tomorrow so Sunday's run will be up there. Either tomorrow or Sunday will be a long run day (10-15).

Loopy - bet it feels good to be back on that mountain road

jebba - good luck on the long run

BBS - hope the rest day helps

RA - pretty confident you'll be in an "Empire State of Mind" very soon.

kevin - nice job on the 5

Hill repeats done. Tore a page out of the McMillan manual and tried something called "Sixes/Sevens." Basically you go marathon goal pace and bump the incline up to 6% for 90 seconds, then do a minute recovery jog, then go back up to MP at 7% for a minute, followed by 2-minute recovery jog. I did that for 6 sets. At first it didn't feel hard at all, but it definitely got harder as the workout progressed.

According to McMillan MP at those grades is equivalent to your 5k race pace. If I had more time, I think I could have staggered through another set or two, but I needed to get back to the office so I called it 6 sets. 6.35 miles total with warmup and cooldown.

Hey all -

Loopy - sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother... My prayers & condolences to your family.

Well pa weather is not fun and looks like we are getting more crappy weather! Plus I have been feeling sluggish and I know it's because my eating this week has not been at it's best. Hectic schedule make for quick junk lunches and several parties thru the week, plus superbowl this weekend will not help matters. My body is craving some nutrients.

No run today but will have an early run Sat morning & hopefully it won't be too sloppy.

Hope the rest of the evening is good for all !

Ps.. 1 1/2 weeks till spring training!

ARG!!! My post just got eaten! Flyby as my wrist is splinted. The more I used my hand yesterday the worse it hurt. there's a good bit of swelling, too, as I can't get my wedding ring off. We'll see what splinting does over the weekend. Might need to get the hematoma on my leg checked out, too. I'm okay with bruising, this has a good lump.

Long run for me today. Last Chance for Boston loop, so lots of round and round she goes for me. Uneventful, although I just never felt good. Perhaps I wasn't recovered from Wednesday's icy run? Had hoped for 15, but settled for 13m. Not sure what I'm going to do as I just haven't been able to get the long runs in this winter. Perhaps settle for the half rather than the full?

4boys- owie! I hope you feel better soon.

Well, the freezing rain never appeared, so I did my run outside. 12 miles. I was thinking of doing 14, but felt kinda tired, and it seemed kinda silly to slog through a couple of more miles just for my ego. I still have a p90x workout tonight after the kids go to bed (chest, shoulders, tris and abs.)
