Good morning, and Happy Friday to all

Yesterday's 60 minute run wound up being 60 minutes with 30 second pickups tossed in, instead of the negative split run I had originally scheduled. 7.36 in 60:08 for about an 8:10 avg pace. My legs felt awful, however, which is why I wound up just doing the pickups so I wouldn't further discourage myself. Today I'm just going to bike and rest the legs. Since Tuesday, my legs have felt terrible so I think I just need a day or two off.

Enjoy the day, everyone

Mailbox - Have a good one later!

Liz - Bummer about your legs. Sounds like a rest is in order.

I'm feeling kinda tired again this morning. Wish I could figure out what's keeping me in this cycle. Didn't sleep restfully last night so maybe that's it but haven't really been able to blame it all on poor sleep. Hope it's just a phase.

Occasionally at work we have what I call a "trifecta."

Every 2 weeks on Friday is a payday. The last Friday of every month is a jeans day. And occasionally there is something special like a "wear a baseball hat day" or something like that.

Today is a trifecta. Payday, Jeans Day, White Sox/Cubs day. Sweet.

Hawk--hope you heal up quickly!

EQ--bummer about yesterday. I don't think we can ever really let our guard down. I went down because I found a patch of ice when it was 40* and raining. Who would have thought?!

Rest/sick day for me. I ended up doing Thursday's ride on Wednesday after my swim, then Friday's swim yesterday. Works out well because my big guys are at a conference, so noone to watch my little guys. And, this cold really is getting the best of me.

Nirvy have a nice day...sounds like things should be a bit more fun than usual. That's always nice for a Friday.

Liz rest up! I don't want another me out there.

Mom - Hope your cold gets outta Dodge pretty soon.

Dan - Have you ever seen anyone for something like Lunesta or one of those sleep aides? It almost seems worth looking into since you've mentioned sleep troubles since I first joined back at CR. Just a thought.

Off for a little trot around town....hopefully everything feels up to par.

Morning gang;

Last night the group run was cancelled due to the crappy weather. I wanted to run outside but DW convinced me I was crazy and should go to the gym with her... I decided to run for an hour so treadmill rather than indoor track.

At some point I decided that 8 miles was the goal so started a progression. I had to hit the gas in the last mile for a SFF Hawk special. Hit 8 miles in 59:58for a satisfying finish before the TM went into the automatic 4min CD mode. Felt pretty good and added some confidence for the race on Sunday.

Splits as follows:

Mile 1: 9:09 inc WU
Mile 2 - 5: 7:30
Mile 6: 7:20
Mile 7: 7:12
Mile 8: 6:08
CD: 4 mins / 0.4 miles

Total of 8.4miles in 64 mins.

Nirvana: trifecta - nice. We have the corporate casual day every Friday. Not very exciting until someones wears a totally inappropriate outfit prompting the question; "what the heck were they thinking?".

Dan: Rest up mate!

Mailbox: I'm wondering if I'll be able to put in the type of mileage you do when my marathon training picks up? How do you find the time?

Liz - Sounds like me sometimes - legs just go AWOL. Nice run but rest is now in order.

4boysmom: enjoy the rest and get better.

Alex: have a nice trot...

Morning gang!

EQ - I'm hoping that you don't have anymore injuries this year, man oh man!

SHUFFLE GOERS!!!!
RA - you're right, I'm in "D" this year, first time ever! I think I would have made "C" had my half not been in 85* weather which added about 10 minutes to my half time...but I'm happy being in "D"

Ok, I think I agree with Nirvana's plan. I think the following:
Tonya - 32:45
Phill - 41:07
RA - 31:37
Nirvana - 32:45
Flobear - 45 - still sticking with this time because of the weather and I'm not 100%

See, I think, even though Tonya & Nirvana are in totally different spots on the course and Tonya will finish before Nirvana does, I am going to guess they finish with the exact same time.

RA I think you'll be the fastest this year.

Phill I think you'll be really close to the 41 that you want, but with how crowded this race is, you might be a bit slower than you expect. Just get as close to the front of the open coral as possble to avoid the speed walkers.

Phill & Tonya, remember SCREAM when you go under the first bridge...Tonya you may not get the same effect as Phill will since you're in the top 100, but Phill, it's sooooo cool to be under there and have that echo effect.

TOO MUCH COFFEE for me this morning. No run today, packet pickup is all. Planning on 2-3 tomorrow morning though to make sure my legs & lungs are loose for Sunday.

Okay, here's mine:

Tonya: 30:30
Me: 31:30
RA: 31:31
Flobear: 43:30
Phill: 39:20

I edge Asics with a lean at the tape and Tonya takes the gold, but just misses my PR

I didn't realize I was cutting you short with your time! I'm sorry

You really think I can go 43:30? Wow, you do have a lot of faith in me!

I am totally going to look up the pictures at the end to see if you do lean forward, that would totally crack me up!

I think Nirvy and Flo both need to step out on a limb more.

Flo- you can't pick a tie... One of them has to win. NAd I think Nirvana's right- you'll do better than you think.

Nirvana- I've got a feeling you're sandbagging on us a little and you're going to come out better than you've predicted.

The rest of the times seem pretty good, although I bet Phil comes in a little faster too. He's really been training well this Winter.

Oooh, I like this predicted time thing...Tonya's being awfully quiet though.

Mandatory rest continues for me. I'm on the meds too...3x strength ibuprofen and skelaxin (muscle relaxer). The latter is pretty powerful, really hit me hard last night. I don't think I've slept that deeply in months. I took another one morning as directed but haven't noticed that same effect, so it may just have exaggerated my usual evening tiredness as I wound down from the day. I couldn't even stay awake to see the end of my wife's UCLA Bruins game...fell asleep on the couch when they were up by 20, woke up and they were only up by 4. Whoa...but they held on.

Though I can't run, my Type A runner personality can't help but start planning for when I can run anyway. So right now I'm projecting the following rehab schedule:

Rest through Tuesday 4/1
Wed 4/2 - swim 30 minutes
Thu 4/3 - elliptical 30 minutes
Fri 4/4 - swim 45 minutes
Sat 4/5 - elliptical 45-60 minutes
Sun 4/6 - walk 60-75 minutes
Mon 4/7 - off
Tue 4/8 - resume running

We'll see if my body cooperates but that's my objective, to be running again by T-2 weeks to Boston.

And oh yeah, this being Friday...I'm wearing my old school Phillies jersey today (Apple, you know the look).

Have a great Friday everyone.

Flobear - did you go for the double shot this morning?

I just looked at the course map - looks different to the last few years between miles 2 and 4. Anyway, assuming the weather is on our side, my Shuffle predictions are:

Tonya - 30:50
Phill: 41:00
RA - 31:30
Nirvana - 31:10
Flobear: 43:59

I agree that Phill will be hampered the most by the Shuffle shufflers. Probably run into them around mile 2 or 3

Tonya should break 31min IF she doesn't run a 5:30 in the first mile. It's VERY hard to stay on pace being near the front of this race. I'd like to be in the same boat but am being realistic with my time.

I'll do packet pickup tomorrow - hopefully early.

So, are we going to try and meet up before the race and/or afterwards? I'll be there with DW as my gear check, my preggers sister-in-law and her husband who somehow managed to get in Corral C.

Now, off to practice my finishing lean today down the corridor

I believe that Nirvana and Tonya as equally stubborn and competetive, so if they were eqaully fit it would be a battle of the ages.

But to all the shamrock shufflers - Have a great time

Alex - I am a clydesdale and I have never trotted - That must be a term for race horses like yourself!

Run Asics - I know exactly how that goes - I run TM alot and often I will calculate what it will take to get to a mileage in a certain time and have to haul ass!

Me - I was scheduled for 10 with some I-Paced work, but after all this banter about correct training paces and proper recovery - I decided that I was in need of a second recovery day if I am going to hit my weekend runs.

6 easy miles with 8x striders

Good running to all -

I was very pleased to hear that you have been given a temporary flying permit. You HAVE to run Boston so take it easy! Also, I may need your training advice since I have the same 3:15 goal time.

I'm was presuming that Tonya and Phill are in transit to Chicago? I'm sure we'll get a post via iPHONE soon.

I did a large coffee today...didn't do the double Americano like I planned which is a good thing!

As for meeting up, I'm going to try and get down there with Phill & Tonya via brownline...my ex (who I have become friends with again) will be gear check for me, my friend LG, and his mom (who is also running this year)...plan is to be there around 8:30 or 8:45 I think. Should we meet by the fountain?

Not going to stick around too long after, just long enough to get LG and then off to Pauline's for pancakes!

Hey Hawk - Although I have no reason like injury etc - I am amazed at how many of us are in a less than ideal position or anything close to what we wanted for Boston.

If It were a local marathon, I would have scrapped it, but the funds are spent, the womens' trials will be fun to see and the Boston Marathon will be an experience.

I hope to find someway to meet all those who post regularly in this thread at Boston!
