Morning, all!

Have to be in to work at 6:15am today so I figured I would say hello bright and early. Yesterday's rest day definitely served me well, and today will be 4 or 5 easy on the hills, can't wait for later. Then tomorrow is a planned long run, 10 or 11, depending on how well I handle those suckers.

Everyone have a "good Friday"!

PS- Tonya RE: Yesterday's post. I agree with all those that said you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself but I totally understand how you feel. Whenever I'm constantly stressing about my running, my body actually shuts down and gets sick from both the physical overtraining and mental stress. After getting the flu bad a few weeks ago I decided to not push myself when my body is telling me to rest. Good runs come more often when you're not expecting them. When you're constantly expecting to feel good everyday, it might be (and often was the case for me) a big let down when you have a so-so run which adds more stress. I think the race performances (and getting a little sick afterwards) are a combination of not giving yourself a physical rest as well as your body's response to the mental stress you're feeling on those days. But even those race times are better than most people could hope for! Hope you feel better soon.

Good Morning

Liz - "Enjoy" those hills. Glad the rest day paid dividends.

Core day for me. Thought my legs would be dead today after the way yesterday's run felt but they're not too bad.

Looking forward to a good weekend of running with 11 on Sunday.

Tonya - You're going to RISE to the occasion in Boston. Plus you're going to have some "locals" there to support one another. Please have fun with it!

Good EARLY morning!

With only a swim this morning not sure why I got up at my usual 5:15. Decent swim this morning, but certainly feeling Wednesday's hell workout! I think the distance was about 2000yds in 58?.

I took my bike to the gym with me, hoping to ride after the swim. However, I decided to skip it since I was already pretty wiped.

I got home about an hour earlier than usual. Funny what Mom finds when she gets home early...

I just want to say thank you to all of you who gave me the huge pep talk yesterday, as well as today: kfuller, Hawk, Nirvana--as usual , SGH, Flobear--nice Jerry Maguire reference, lol; RunAsics, Liz--thanks for the understanding, and Dan--thanks for all the positive words, both now and previously. I also want to say thank you to you all on Phillip's behalf, as he has to hear it all the time and tells me the same thing, I just don't listen.

Anyway, I'm feeling a little bit better about things, though I'm still feeling under pressure. Honestly I think it's this whole Team Nebraska thing. I think that is when the feeling of bearing weight on my chest began. Maybe I should rethink being a part of that? I just felt like I was running for me before I joined...just a thought. I know I wouldn't be able to make it as far without a coach, but sometimes I wonder if I could? Who knows.

Big shout out to Richard on your improved time for the 22 miler last night!!! WOOHOO! That's great dude! I am proud of you, we all are. Can't wait to see what you do in that 50k.

I can tell I was seriously feeling overwhelmed yesterday. After running at lunch and then letting this whole thing build up all afternoon, I decided to go to the gym and hop on the elliptical for 12.58 miles in 65 minutes. Probably not the best idea doing all that work yesterday, the day after I've been so sick. Especially because today I'm reeeeally feeling rundown. So, don't know what's to be expected performance-wise today. We'll see.

Hey Rob - I do 4 sets of Abs 40 reps ea. 2 sets normal crunches, 1 bicycle, and one with my legs straight up in the air.

Plank 1 minute ish, side plank the same.

Lunges - static (one foot forward one back) 1 set 10 w/ 10 lb db's. side lunges - step to side and down into wide squat like position with arms going up above head and keeping back straight. choose your weight. Step ups - step up onto bench or chair to straight standing position keeping back straight your choice weight. Last I do these I think they're called bird dogs. kneeling on the floor with hands and knees touching. extend right arm and left leg back and slightly up, hold return and do other leg/arm. 2 sets 10.

This w/o has evolved to strengthen back, abs, groin, glutes. The last two have shown up in injury so have worked to strengthen. I'll see if I still have pics of any of these.

My wife has today off as her company gives them good friday off. So I got to the swimming poole early today. Did 1500 yds in the pool 100's with 1 minute rest. The 100's take about 1:50. I also did some jogging in the pool. Hopefully on Monday I will be able to hit the road again and do some quality running. Now I am off to the chiropractor and it is going to feel good. Have a great morning everyone.

Hey everyone,

Much needed rest day for me. I'm fearing two different injuries - one on each foot.

On my left foot I have a pain going across the bottom of my foot when I push off
On my right foot I have a pain on the top of my foot where I could barely put support on it when I got out of bed - but it slowly (very slowly) went away.

I think I may have found my limit in mileage (about 40-50 a week). I've never had injuries before, so I'm hoping one day of rest will settle my feet down a bit! The fact that I've been running on my battered Brooks' probably doesn't help. I'm going to go to the trails for my 17 miler tomorrrow - I have trail shoes with less than 200 miles on them...that and the fact that trails are softer than road should help me out!

ok, enough whining...onto the replies:

Liz: Sounds like a good start to the weekend!

Dan: Glad your legs are feeling good - you've definitely made the turn in your recovery!

SGH: Wow, a hilly 20!?! My 17 mile trails tomorrow will be super hilly, but I slow down from a 9:40 pace to probably an 11:00 pace...they're REALLY hilly!

Loopy: Sounds like a good run! Enjoy your weekend!

Richard: Props again! It's one thing to run fast (because we all have our variable speeds) but you killed your own record - great job!

4bm: Oh you left us hanging! What DOES mom find when she comes home early! Glad your workout was good. Have a great weekend.

Asics: Enjoy the speed!

Chances: Gotta love the TOURNEY!!!

Phill: You getting faster and faster...I think I can remember that not too long ago 9:00'ish pace wasn't "easy"

Tonya: Time to pull out the CREDIT CARD!!! Time to go out and have a nice, peaceful evening - so you and Phill go have a great time! I'm a debt free kind of person, but every once in awhile you just need to take a timeout to BREATHE!

Kevin: Enjoy the cracking and crunching!

Now for some day one NCAA RESULTS:

After day one of the first round from the standings in Kickrunners league are:
1. P. Janzen (Phil) two wrong
1. D. Zohfeld (Nirvy)
3. T. Janzen (tonya) three wrong
3. M. Henze
3. B. Becker (me)
3. K. Burnell
7. K. Fuller (kfuller) four wrong
7. P. Hanckock (Chances)
9. M. Van Vulcanborf (Mailbox) five wrong
10. E. Karcher six wrong

we'll see how the standings change after today!!!

everyone else...have a great weekend!

Another Friday, at last.

Not much planned today...heading over to the gym for spin in about 10-15 minutes. Then it will be a few more hours here at the office, most likely very quiet before I head downtown to gather with some DC-area Hawks to see St. Joe's beat Oklahoma!!

Tomorrow morning I have an easy 10 on tap, the start of my mini-taper week prior to National Marathon.

kfuller/4bm - nice work in the pool

Dan - I may do a little core after spin today, though I usually mix that with some upper body weight work. All depends, if I have time or have to hurry back to the office.

Tonya - aren't you still more or less working out on your own, i.e., you weren't even really going to start with the coach til after Boston? Seems like you're getting yourself all worked up over nothing.

Phill - nice run this morning.

RA/Chances - enjoy the speed workout. You guys know I enjoy those.

Richard - I read about your long run last night. Great job!!

SGH - enjoy the hilly 20 tomorrow. Should get you ready for Boston.

Liz - have a good recovery run today, you'll handle that long run tomorrow, no worries at all.

Good morning, gang.

No run today. I'll report that my week was less than good due to increased workload at work and waning energy at night. Skipped Wednesday run. Got a good 7 miles in last night. I am running low on sleep and I hope to catch up in that area.

The Saturday plan is to run 20 hilly too. Tonight's forecast calls for 4-6" new snow that should make the run interesting.

TGIF!!

Nothing for me today as my knee was a little sore this morning. Decided to make it a rest day. I might ride a little later if the knee feels up to it.

Roots - Sorry for the weather. 76 here for the high today and tomorrow.

Hey ya'll,

I am doing terrible at getting on here everyday to keep up with everyone, ugh! I'm starting to get a bit better though and I'm really hoping to go for a 2 mile run tomorrow

Tonya- Hope things settle down and you can just purely enjoy running without having to be stressed out
4BM- What did you find when you got home early?
Brian- I hope you're not injured, feel better!

Glad to see everyone is getting out there.

It started snowing a bit as I type, but nothing much "yet". For god sakes it is the 2nd day of Spring. Can we not have 2 sunny days in a row.

I don't report here that much, but my week has been pretty fair.

3/17 49:19 Road (Tempo) - 7M w/2 other runners. It was a tough run for me since I haven't worked on any speed, but I kept pace with them on a cold/windy day.
3/18 1:04 Road (Easy) - 7.5M? Upper 40s. Ran with Brett/friend. Great night to run. Left knee bothering me some - ITBand area.
3/19 51:04 Road (Hard/Easy/Hard) - 7M - This was a tough run for me. I didn't feel comfortable at all only becasuse my left ITB was aching a bit.
3/20 57:26 Trails (Easy/Mod) - 6.2M w/Brett - Much better run tonight. Other than a blister, back of right foot, my ITB did not bother me one bit. Maybe this is telling me something?
3/21 Rest/Work/Travel Day

Weekend: Traveling home. Haven't seen family since Thanksgiving 2007.
3/22 Will more than likely run an easy 4-5 miles w/twin brother at home in Benton, Wisconsin this weekend.
3/23 14M on the Galena River Trail
This trail is not far from where I grew up in Wisconsin. Plus, it traffic free.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Megs - I think about you all the time. I hope you are doing well--don't take it on too soon. You don't want to relapse. I know you'll be smart about it. Take care of yourself girl.
