Prepping for a road trip now... MamaRosa told me we had to wear our helmets while driving on 64 near C-ville...

(Ralphie told me that the helmet would make absolutely no difference. I'm not telling Mama that.)

6.1 easy GA miles this morning in 55 minutes. After a warm up mile, 2 miles at 9:00 and 3 miles at 8:50. I felt solid today. Average HR only 137! Encouraging ...

Thunderstorms expected here later this morning, right around the time I'd be getting back from teaching and could go out to run. Maybe they'll hold off a while longer and I won't be relegated to the TM? We'll see.

Good morning to all, and good runs!

Nothing moderating here: three inches of fresh snow (again!) this morning.

Here's a poem from a local running newsletter that really captures it for those of us nursing injuries. Not being good with poetry, I had to read it over a couple of times to fully get it, but substitute "hamstring" for "achilles" and it sure sums it up for me:

========================
PURGATORY
========================
A satin sun strains,
extending frigid fingers
to slumbering soil

My cold consciousness unfolds,
as devouring darkness
dominates the dawn

I hear mute birds
sing a song
of silent emptiness,

As they serenely struggle
to spark spirits,
void of voice

The stillness of calm
slowly releases ripples
trembling with tension

Thoughts once solidly stable,
now forlornly frail,
twist in turmoil

Patience and personality suffer,
as deep distraction
rumbles without rest

An open soul hole,
leaking lingering feeling
of man incomplete…

My achilles sits sullen
amid functioning friends,
derelict and deviant

I am partially deceived
by my self
until I’m whole

-- Ian Forsyth

2 miles at a very easy pace on the TM this morning. Good runs to everyone today and this weekend.

Nice happy poem roch..
It does capture the feeling of being injured. For those not injured remember to "Enjoy the Gift"!

I wanted a nice hard workout today but keep injury free. I'm skipping races these last few weeks so I decided on a 12 mi GA run with tempo miles alternating for the last 10 miles. That worked out great. Target was to alternate 8:00 and 7:30 miles. After a 2.2 mi wu with Tory at 8:30 pace, the 10 mi splits were:
7:29, 7:51, 7:33, 7:56, 7:27, 7:58, 7:38, 8:00, 7:23, 8:00 (10 mi avg 7:44 pace)

Wore the fuel belt and drank every 2 miles to practice drinking at MP (8:00)

12.2 mi in 1:35:52 (7:51, AHR 157)

ETA: forgot weather report for Rosie... IRC 55F no wind, clear sky, a bit dark at 4:30

Morning all.
Rosie - I didn't understand your post but thought it was funny
Perch - very good and consistent workout
Gin - wohoo!
KSrunner, it's actually not very funny...there is a sniper shooting at cars in the Charlottsville, VA area...sad that we now have to worry about just driving and getting randomly shot at

Good morning. I walked 1 mile for w/u & c/d, and ran 3 miles. Heartrate is still way too high - it spiked at 174 at it's peak. Dunno what I can do to keep it lower. It'll go up to 145 just walking at a normal pace!

BTW, I'm the POTD and I posted my questions.

Tonight we're heading to a bar nearby to hear a new band called "Back Door Slam". They sound awesome! It'll be hard to stand for 4+ hours though. I wish they had chairs.

Resting today, before I drive five pre-teens up to a weekend's camp. After a last minute plea for chaperones, I agreed to stay as long as I could get my LR in tomorrow morning. O Lord, what have I done to displease thee so?

(Actually, they're all good kids, and they're all committed to international understanding and conflict resolution - so while I expect a lot of noise, it'll be happy harmless noise.)

I'll be leaving the laptop at home, so will post the March Miles thread today and collect data upon my return.

Peter - Wow! I hadn't heard that. There is so much goofey banter on our threads I thought an inside joke might be going on. We do live in a difficult time.

MS - good luck. My DW and I are scheduled for a youth lock in tonight. I generally like kids but don't like to spend the night with them. Suppose to meet at 5:30 Sat. for a 20 miler and won't get much sleep.

Just found out that Beth, has some bad poison ivy and a sore throat and won't be going to Terrapin Mt.
Shucks.
I have nothing exciting to post re workouts. I am sitting here eating breakfast which consists of a whole grapefruit, 2 chocolate marshmallow eggs and a cup of coffee. Quite the Breakfast of Champions, eh? People at work keep buying discounted Easter candy -- aargh! I'll do a little Kick reading and then buckle down for a busy work day.

Belated birthday wishes for Mustang Mom!

Thanks for the Butterfly Hug, Mariposai. My extra rest is doing some good and I feel like maybe I won't get this cold afterall. Woot Woot!

Extending condolences to Dove. How sad

Skip, thanks for the poem. I have two pregnant friends and will share it with them. Roch, I hope your hamstring feels better soon. I'm also having a touch of a hamstring problem myself.

Thanks for the head's up on your POTD post, Riley. Will go there next.

Hope everyone has a great day and a wonderful weekend.

This is the group we're seeing tonight. Very Robert-Cray-like, I think. We might be the oldest people there, however, hahahaha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoUDjFMgUKM

Good Morning Kicksters,

MS - take good care of our future leaders. May they do a better job than the current crop.

Perch - excellent w/o this morning. UR ready. Good runs too, KS,Bill, Peter, Rose!

I ran a nice easy 10 miles in (mostly light) rain this morning. At least it wasn't snow. 35F, no wind. 1:24:57, 8:30 pace overall. I don't mind the rain itself. It's the puddles and stoopid strides I use to avoid them that make it into a nuisance.

Have fun storming the castle, Mikey!

Winter can't hang on forever, but it's doing a good job trying. 3" of snow overnight, and the footing is still dicey in places. We've already set a record for the snowiest winter here, and this was, literally, piling on.

I am doing a baby indoor triathlon on Sunday -- 15 min swim, 15 min stationary bike, 15 min TM run. I'm training through it and have no particular competitive goals, but still I figured I'd better remind myself what swimming is like. So, 1000 yards in the pool with some hand paddle drills. Then I ran about 4.5 untimed easy miles. Ready for a good long run tomorrow.

Flying Finn and millbot should be eating lunch about now. Anyone else feel a disturbance in the Force?
