17 miles around the lakes at a nice steady pace. Had to make a diversion over a couple of fields due to plane coming down on the trail yesterday. Unfortunately the pilot didn't make it. Cool, dull but dry day, almost perfect running conditions.

Nice long run Elaine. But sad story to start the day!

Where's McSolar?

(((Winejunky))) Was the driver remorseful?

6.25 ez today. Felt harder than it was due to a good quality fartlek session last night.

3 very easy recovery paced miles at 9:55 min/mile pace. Avg. HR 129.

The forecast is not looking good for a PR attempt in my HM on Sunday. It's supposed to be quite warm and humid - the day before another cold front is expected. The days before those come through are unusually sticky and hawt. I guess an MP training run is in order.

See you in Eugene, WineJunkie. I'm really glad you weren't hurt worse than you were.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine's Day yesterday. TGIF!

Nice long run, Elaine. Too bad about the pilot.

ksrunr, I was wondering about mcsolar, too.

WJ, I bet Robin would like some photos of your injuries.

Good luck in your race, Bill. Sunday is far enough out that the weather guessers are likely to be wrong.

Nice run Elaine. I can only dream of doing that kind of mileage again! Shame about the pilot.

4 miles on the TM before work, with a progression run for the first 3, keeping in the low HR range while doing a mile each at 9:30, 9:15, and 9:00, Finished with 3 hill repeats and a cool down, then some strength work. Felt fabulous!

Good luck for the race on Sunday, Bill!

Rest day today! Hooray! Elaine, that was a great run. If emcee knows what's good for him, he's busily peeling grapes for all the Goddesses who will descend on him in just two week's time.

Good run, Elaine! (17! On a weekday!)

I'm going to rest today. Really rest; no swimming!

Love that line yesterday, JJJ:

You physicists have all the positive probability anomalies.

Elaine, I bow to your superior talent! I'm so impressed.

I only had 30 mins to workout this morning so I did 15 mins of rowing and 15 mins on this new bike they have at my gym. It's pretty neat; it's called "espresso". The screen allows you to chose a course which is displayed like a video game, and you need to steer - literally - around the course to avoid hitting other bikers & the scenery! I chose a low/moderate course around a coastal park with a bunch of low hills, and it was about 6 miles or so. It's fun steering the bike, although I must admit that I did clip another biker accidently. Anyway, the muscles in my butt are sore now so I must have worked harder than it seemed.

Got my stitches out today so I'm good to go. It healed up nicely and doesn't itch so much now that the stitches are finally gone.

NICE long one Elaine!

I entered a new AG today! (First time since I started racing).
Not a graceful way to start though, after my hilly run on Wednesday, I had knee AND foot soreness on my right leg. The foot is some irritated nerves I think. I did my normal recovery run yesterday really slow and did another 6 Magical Healing Miles today (bagging my 13 miler) with the goal of completing it with zero discomfort. That was successful and it is better today than yesterday so I'll go easy on it until it disappears.
I'm excited to do some racing in my new AG and bring home some hardware, it makes me feel younger. On the other hand, maybe I should feel old. I renewed my driver's liscense yesterday and if you are 55 or older they will renew it for 5 years instead of 8 years! Why I ask?
1. Saves you money in case you don't make it more than 5 years
2. Your vision will be uncorrectable in more than 5 years
3. You won't be able to remember what those traffic signs mean in more than 5 years
4. You won't be able to remember where the DMV office is in more than 5 years
Any other reasons?

Have great runs!
Happy Birthday Steve!

Rest day for me and I need it. But I did have a great yoga class with Bob last night. He must've been reading OM's mind as we worked on arm balances. We did crow, crane, and this one which is like firefly but with crossed legs. I have the worst trouble with my hand positioning for this pose because you have to put your weight on hands that are placed flat on the floor with fingers pointed forward. I have a hard time getting my hands flat on the floor; feels like it puts too much strain on my wrists so I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get all the way into the pose.

Sometimes I think we need a yoga thread so we don't bore the non-yogis in the group! Any thoughts?

Nice run, Elaine! That's sad news about the plane and pilot though. Are you near an airport? We have a lot of small planes around here, and they do use the roads for emergency landings sometimes...

Happy Birthday Steve! I must say I'm not looking forward to getting into the 50+ AG... there's a very speedy woman around here who will still be there when I get there. I was so glad when she turned 50 a couple years ago!

Susan, that sounds like a cool bike! Any penalties for hitting other bikers/objects? I know a few people who would aim for them... not mentioning any names!

Good grief, Choovie... human pretzels. Makes my wrist hurt just looking at it.

So-called rest day, but I don't want to. I was so looking forward to some nice long runs outside this weekend because it warmed up so much. But up here, warming trends mean snow. And it's coming down. And it's windy! Carp.

I think mc is just pulling back a bit and taking a break. I think we all need to do that sometime. Two weeks to Relay!

Happy B-Day Perch!

Nice progression run lynden!

Yes, Econo, you must really rest (sounds like a Sans Souci echo... ). You're going to run very well tomorrow. It looks like ideal racing conditions.

Rest day for me too. I ate two doughnuts. They were sublime.

Choovie,
Is any weight on the feet in that picture, or are they just resting on the ground without serving as support in any way? Also, I was wondering what this pose is called.

Just curious....

Susan (my fav yoga class is tomorrow morning)
currently eating my way through a small bag of those conversation hearts that say stuff like "go girl" and "my baby", except that I throw out the purple ones.

Millbot - must be a good day for 9 milers! I just did 9-ish myself (I never know exactly, nor do I want to know). The run was harder than it should have been. OTOH, that caps a 50-mile week for me, so my legs are fried. It was sunny and hot shorts weather - temp in the mid-40's!

Oh man, I have absolutely NO TIME to be posting and talking about all this yoga stuff (we leave at 4am tomorrow for the Caribbean -- it's banana-time, baybee! :banana and I've got tons of stuff still to do today. But since you asked so nicely....

OK, quick link with info on firefly and other such related poses:

http://www.yogastudio.org/teachings/...na_demos.shtml

Don't know the teacher nor the studio, so I can't vouch for the info, but the pictures fit the bill, for now. Dwi hasta bhujasana, that's the arm balance with the legs crossed, and no, the feet are not supposed to be touching the floor. The single armed-pose, eka hasta bhujasana, which there isn't a picture for in that link, is sort of like the variation that's shown, except that the leg over the shoulder is bent at the knee.

OK, here's some more pics I found that might help:

http://www.marylandyoga.com/arm_balances.htm

The first one on top on the left, the smilin' dude Shariff is doing a great dwi hasta bhujasana, and it's pretty much his smile that's making his pose float. Bottom right picture, that's eka hasta bhujasana, though I like to get my leg over my shoulder more. Lots of core needed for that one, though smiling helps as well (notice Stan isn't). Wow, he's a big strong guy.

Oh, and the one in the middle, bottom row, astavakrasana, that's the one I'm almost at these days. What you do is start in eka hasta bhujasana, cross the straight leg ankle over the bent one, tip your chest forward while bending your elbows a la chaturanga dandasana (90 degree bend in the elbows to make that shelf) and then the legs are supposed to shoot out to the side to make that "eight crooked angles pose". What did I say before, that smiling helps? Oh yeah, I'm smiling all the way to the bank, as I either fall flat on my face or back on my butt.

A little glossary now, for the Sanskrit impaired:
eka = one
hasta = arm
bhuja = pressing
chatur = four
anga = angle
asta = eight
danda = staff
vakra = crook, as in crooked bent place
asana = pose (but I'm sure y'all knew that one already)

To the powers that be, feel free to move this to a new thread or whatever. I gotta go pack!!

PS -- No running today, but my hip and sacrum feel great.

Cheryl that just hurts to look at it. ((((Tammy))))

Beutiful morning here on the Bitterroot, but I was not a good boy scout today. For some reason nice weather makes me a bit complacent and I paid for it today. Went to Como Lake to do the loop, the road was cleared right up to the lake and then it goes to forest road which is not maintained in the winter. Drove up towards the trail head and started getting stuck so I backed out part of the way and the truck broke thru the crust and high centered.

I left my shovel that I normally take with me and wore light running clothes with my knit gloves. I had an ice scrapper a small plasitc container and a hammer with me. I had to dig out around the truck so that I could get under the truck and dig the hard packed snow away from the frame. Took me over 2 hours but I got the truck out. I ran out of time for my run but didn't want to do much but go home and eat a few pieces of chocolate covered ginger...really warms the body. All in all it was a good adventure and enjoyed my resourcefullness. Put my shovel in the back as soon as I got home.

Just the view of Como peak was well worth the short drive and getting stuck.

Roy got to run around a bit while there, but seemed to be interested in what I was doing carrying a few large chunks of ice off to chew on. He doesn't seem to care what we do as long as he gets to participate.

Good Runs All, Larry
