Oh man, I have absolutely NO TIME to be posting and talking about all this yoga stuff (we leave at 4am tomorrow for the Caribbean -- it's banana-time, baybee! :banana and I've got tons of stuff still to do today. But since you asked so nicely....

OK, quick link with info on firefly and other such related poses:

http://www.yogastudio.org/teachings/...na_demos.shtml

Don't know the teacher nor the studio, so I can't vouch for the info, but the pictures fit the bill, for now. Dwi hasta bhujasana, that's the arm balance with the legs crossed, and no, the feet are not supposed to be touching the floor. The single armed-pose, eka hasta bhujasana, which there isn't a picture for in that link, is sort of like the variation that's shown, except that the leg over the shoulder is bent at the knee.

OK, here's some more pics I found that might help:

http://www.marylandyoga.com/arm_balances.htm

The first one on top on the left, the smilin' dude Shariff is doing a great dwi hasta bhujasana, and it's pretty much his smile that's making his pose float. Bottom right picture, that's eka hasta bhujasana, though I like to get my leg over my shoulder more. Lots of core needed for that one, though smiling helps as well (notice Stan isn't). Wow, he's a big strong guy.

Oh, and the one in the middle, bottom row, astavakrasana, that's the one I'm almost at these days. What you do is start in eka hasta bhujasana, cross the straight leg ankle over the bent one, tip your chest forward while bending your elbows a la chaturanga dandasana (90 degree bend in the elbows to make that shelf) and then the legs are supposed to shoot out to the side to make that "eight crooked angles pose". What did I say before, that smiling helps? Oh yeah, I'm smiling all the way to the bank, as I either fall flat on my face or back on my butt.

A little glossary now, for the Sanskrit impaired:
eka = one
hasta = arm
bhuja = pressing
chatur = four
anga = angle
asta = eight
danda = staff
vakra = crook, as in crooked bent place
asana = pose (but I'm sure y'all knew that one already)

To the powers that be, feel free to move this to a new thread or whatever. I gotta go pack!!

PS -- No running today, but my hip and sacrum feel great.
