hey! wakeup sleep heads!

struggled through 10mi at 9:30 pace. didn't eat enough yesterday, and ran 14mi at 8-flat last night... so i was a bit depleted. if i feel like this tomorrow, will just run my 20mi easy with no 10k race.

Good Morning Mc! Thanks for the rockin' start.

I'll get in a run at some point today - most likely on my lunch hour if this rain lets up.

tomorrow is my son's 11th birthday, so we have a pretty full day planned for him. It'll most likely be Sunday when I get in my long run and I think that's supposed to be the nicer of the days anyways - almost 60 on Sunday.

I may have been born to run but I'm taking a couple days off. Total rest day yesterday, which was nice. Today I'll hit the gym at lunchtime for a workout, then it's movie night with DH tonight! We're going to our fave little bar/movie house where you can have drinks and food with your movie. Tonight it's the American with George Clooney. I love it that my DH takes me to George Clooney movies!

It's warmed up a lot here (only -10°F right now... heheh), so I might run outside this weekend. But only if I feel like it.

I had an LT test and was then told my blood lactate afterwards was AWESOME :¬)

I'm not sure what that means and don't understand all the numbers but it makes research fun.

mcsolar, i can't imagine why you would feel depleted. Gobi, I can't imagine why you would have an awesome LT. I'm headed to the Y for an hour on the bike to nowhere. I could ride my real bike after work but wanted a little more time resting before the race tomorow morning. I predict Paul will win it outright. Let's see...CP could be my mantra.

Total rest day for me today. Erika, we had 22F more than you this morning for a balmy +12F. Not my cuppa tea, especially with this head/chest cold. It's supposed to warm up into the 20's and 30's tomorrow. I'll do my LR then.

That's a lot o' miles in 3 days, mc!

Alright, Erika is back! I feared you had left us like so many others. You deserve a rest day...and a Clooney movie.

Opie, CP? As usual, I'm confused...

Most of my races are usually on Saturday mornings, so I do my little pre-race ritual run on Thursday nights: 3 or 4 miles in my racing shoes, with one mile at my goal race pace. But my half marathon this weekend is on Sunday, so that means it will be a rare Friday night run for me. That will delay Happy Hour.

And the weather report for Sunday totally blows - like in high winds and rain. I do not like the winds part at all, or the waiting around the starting line in the rain. But it should be a balmy 40°F, so that will help.

Yeah, mc, depleted is not a good way to be. Have a cookie or something.

Welcome back, Erika! That movie house/bistro place sounds lovely, wish we had something like that here. Enjoy the movie!

I ran a hill route today, looked like this:

Esther, wow, could you see France from up there? That's some hill!

Today's theme was "I feel a cutback week coming on". I ran 5 miles with 3 miles at an 8:35 pace. My easy range is 8:05 - 8:35 and with the conditions we had today, (constant cold headwind coming back), 8:35 was the fastest I was going to go and still feel like it was "easy". I've run 40 miles the past 7 days, and it's been a while since I've done that.

I am supposed to run 13 miles tomorrow, and fortunately it should be about 15 degrees warmer when I head out in the morning than the 18F we had this afternoon. Yesterday's run was a 3-mile recovery jog on a treadmill, so I know I wasn't feeling the effects of that - I think it was the cummulative effect of the previous week, including Wednesday's 8 mile midweek medium-long run.

I am going to cut myself some slack and run tomorrow's 13 miler on a fairly flat route, rather than making it a long hill run.

Going Christmas Caroling tonight for the Ronald McDonald house. Is there one near you? Ours is in downtown Albany next to the Albany Medical Center, and it is a place where families can stay when their children are being treated for serious illnesses at AMC. There is also a place called Fischer's House near the Veteran's Administration hospital, which serves the families of veterans while the vets are being treated, often when they have returned from the war(s).

Have a good weekend all.

Yeah, welcome back, Erika! I will Chase Paul (at a different race than I put in the racing calendar thread). OM, that's quite a hill. I don't think I have any around like that. By the way, it looks like a Garmin Connect graph & how did you copy that?

My yoga teacher talked me into coming back to class & she had me skip down dog since that may have been aggravating my foot. Then I did 20 minutes on the bike to finish my hour.

smart call Brian - on cutting back and making your long run a flatter one.

I ran 5 mi a lunchtime. Wasn't really planning on it, but since it started raining about .5 mi into my run, I knew I'd look like a drowned rat no matter how many miles I ran, so I might as well make it worthwhile.

it ended up being a progressive run I guess:

10.00

9.58 (I thought this was faster, but it was mostly uphill so I guess that's the best I could do)

9.46

9.19

8.44

for a total of 47:48.

Nice run there, Tamster! I've done those "ah what the hell" runs before when the damage is done, just go run.

Hope you're feeling better soon, Mike!

Brian, I could always feel those cutback weeks coming. Good idea to adjust the plan.

Hey Opie! Yeah, I've been kind of swamped with work and getting ready to be out of the office for a week. Glad to be home, even with the cold temps.

I did run every day at the hotel fitness room, sweaty little pit that it is, and that probably helped balance out the dinners we had every night. But I was tired all the time, and yesterday as a total slacker day just felt right. Today I hit the gym at lunchtime and got in 4 miles on the elliptical while listening to Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me! podcast. I'm sure the people on either side of me thought I was nuts. I don't try to hold in the laughter anymore and that show just cracks me up.

bty: there's r-mcd house here in tucson, and they have a program where you can cook meals for the kids and their families -- i'm probably going to round up a couple of my friends and do that a handful of times next year. have you ever done it?

nice run tamster! a drowned runner-rat is always better looking than a coiffed couch potato! nice progression.

tomwhite: just be careful about how you put on compression garments before bed time. one night i put on those socks inside-out, and by morning my feet and ankles had expanded to twice normal size, and my bedroom seemed smaller.

Nice of you to sing for them bty. We do have a r-mcd house near Akron Children's Hospital. DS stayed there when his friend's little 4 mo. old baby (now our "adopted" grandson who is 5) had surgery for craniosynostosis. Sounds like a good program in tucson, mc.

I was going to guess cp stood for chase Paul or catch Paul.

Good luck in your half, ks.

That's a pretty steep one, Esther!

wb, Erika. Heading over to re-read that race report now. I only had time to skim this morning.

Yesterday I ran 5 tempo on the towpath, 10s slower than HM race pace. Today was 5 hilly miles.

Usual pre-race run: 3 miles in about 22:00, with the last mile at ~6:50/mi. That's supposed to be HM pace, but given the flooding forecast for race morning, I don't think it's going to happen. And I give it a 50/50 chance I pull my lower hamstring on my left leg. But I won't know until I try!

I didn't know 12 minute pace could be so hard, but I lasted 48 minutes for 4 miles today before I was done. I knew in the the first few minutes I wasn't going much faster as my heartrate continued to climb the whole run getting near 160 when I quit. That makes 4 runs in 6 days so I am happy about that.

4 miles 48:00

2,534 ft elevation gain
