Mornin' KS and Rip!

Glad you're back KS!

Rip, my resting HR is down in the low 40's. Freaks out the nurses at the blood donor clinic and I always leave the readout showing on the BP machine at work.

It was a morning for deerfly fartleks and dragonfly pacers! The hamstring and calf both felt pretty good after a couple of days off, so thought I'd try a small trail run this morning. About 200m down the fireroad a few deerflies started buzzing my head. As I ran, I saw fly after fly hovering about 6" off the dirt as I approached, flying up and circling back behind me to join the entourage. Glanced over my shoulder to see how many were following and saw at least 6 on my shirt, and a small cloud behind me. Arrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!! Picked up the pace considerably for about a quarter mile, madly swatting and shaking the shirt and finally was able to duck into a heavily wooded side trail... losing most of them. Whew!

After about a mile of easy single track in the woods, I came out into a clearing full of butterflies and darting dragonflies, several flying in parallel to my path for some time ..... ah, that's sooo much better! Goldfinches were flitting amongst the goatsbeard seed heads. A deer bounded across the path ahead, pausing to watch this strange looking woman go trotting by. Headed back, taking a side trail to avoid the fly gauntlet and finished off at the bridge down the road, stopping to stretch and flushing a great blue heron. ~3.5 miles. All systems are go!
