Good morning campers. Started off the morning with stretching and core work.

Was trying for a 2:00 hold on both side(s) planks and regular (bent elbow) planks, but failed at 1:40 on one side. Otherwise successful.

Running a nice easy 4-mile recovery jog this afternoon, with any coworkers who haven't come down with the kind of cold that only a trip to Saratoga can cure. 'Toga 'Toga 'Toga!

Good Morning BTY!

5 easy paced miles this morning.

Erika - shoe wear - I've found over the years my right heel wears through faster than my left. I blame some of it on our roads which are arched for winter drainage. So if I am always running against traffic, my right foot is very slightly higher than my left . . . I've been trying to even that out by running with traffic direction on side roads without much traffic and I can see that both right and left have more even wearing. Funny thing though now - most of my aches/pains have always been on my right side. Now with trying to run 1/2 my run on the opposite side of the road, my aches/pains are on the left side now . . . . Also, I have more even wear on my TM sneakers to help support the road theory. Just my thoughts. . . .

Enjoy your day!

G'morning Pink and BTY.

That's tough plankin', BTY. I've been working on my planks again. I'm working on one-legged-planks.

Yesterday's run went well. 3.2 miles. Will try about the same today -my first back to back in a while.

Fortitudingly yours,

Pink, that would kinda make sense that the leg that is slightly higher (due to the canting in the road) would get more pounding and thus ache more.

DD2 and the kids got in town yesterday. They drove down all the way from northern MI. That's brave of DD2 to do with a 4 yo and a 7 yo. As expected as soon as they got here the little ones spied the pool and headed for it. As Mom looked for the swim trunks the littlest one didn't want to wait and asked if he could just go in his underwear.

DW and I used some of our accumulated timeshare time and booked a place for everyone on the beach in Palm Beach - about an hour north of home. So it'll be a weekend for us of sun, sand, saltwater, and drinks with umbrellas in them. I'm not sure how much running I'll get in, but I'll certainly get some, though I may not be able to run long.

I had a voice lesson last night where we were working on my upcoming solo. I'd been practicing it and was feeling pretty good about how I was approaching it. I started the lesson and got exactly one syllable in before the teacher stopped me and corrected me on my "Oh" in the first word "Only" - wanting me to open my mouth and drop my jaw more.

I just had to laugh. I didn't even make it through the first note!

5.5 miles this morning and I decided "to heck with it" and just ran and ignored the little aches. Everything went fine and I actually felt quite good. 2 miles were at MP and the overall pace was 9 min/mile. Better. I was tired of running slow.

Morning Pink, BTY, JJJ and Byll!!

Glad to see you're on the recovery path, J3

Pink, I'm not surprised at the road cant issues. You'd probably been compensating for so long that it's going to take some getting used to things being evened off. I'm thankful that most of the roads I run on are either not so strongly crowned, dirt, or at least quiet enough that I can run right down the middle of them with an iPod on!

Glad you were feeling better this morning, Bill. I was thinking that my foot pain during Tuesday's run was because I slowed way down to about 1 min/m slowere than my normal easy pace to run with the kid, since it felt better when I speeded up at the end. And it didn't come back on yesterday's faster solo run.

No run for me today, in anticipation of two decent back to back runs this weekend. Went to the gym for 20 min on the spin bike, then some core, hip, and ab work.

Have a great day everyone!

Good luck to Dove for tomorrow's race!!!

Labduck was "concerned" about 2 days off and losing fitness. I have been off 4 weeks without a step of running. I should be well rested for my half marathon tomorrow!!

I have been working out on the eliptical as if I was running. Did a 5k race effort the other night and a hard hour the next evening. I have taken the last two days completely off. I am headed to the Anytime Fitness here in Parkersburg in a little bit to get in a half hour on the eliptical. I thought about going for an easy 3 mile run but I would rather face the unexpected tomorrow with no idea how my foot will hold up. My expected finish time is 1:24-2:30!!! I am going 60%-40% that I will end up walking a lot of the race if my foot tightens up but I am hoping for the best.

good luck in your race rip... we all know that you haven't been exactly sitting on the couch for the past 4 weeks! here's hoping that your foot treats you well.

11.5mi ez, 5 with a runner from the meetup.com group. seems to happen every summer... we get a good group going for a few weeks, and then suddenly one week there's just one runner who shows up. even though 5 signed up for this morning, suddenly there were 4 no shows. weird. will probably be running solo again in a couple of weeks... oh well...

massage later this morning, and an easy work day... making up for the extra hours put in for our review meetings earlier this week.

go kick masters go!

Bill - I remember singing lessons and weeks trying to perfect such small details. These days I stick to running where I have control of the small details. :¬)

Impressed that Farve has decided to play on. If his body can take it and his mind is sharp , WHY NOT ?

BTY - side planks are evil so you have my respect for going 100 seconds :¬)

MrsG is still up and down, last night was down so no training this morning was bouncing around so we hit the pool. I swam 2kms split over certain reps. Tough gig but at least I felt I had done something.

Take care and have a fun weekend. I'm racing so should be a laugh.

Good luck, Rip. Be sure to post a report afterwards. You too, Gobi!

DH and I had a good spin class this morning although the music was so-so again. I like the music to be a bit edgier and/or more powerful. This was kind of milque toasty, but I did increase my effort significantly to get in a tougher workout. So I'm pretty happy with my class overall. I've been doing a lot of abs work and stretching too for the past couple of weeks. My hips are still not good but I'm getting through it and seeing some sporadic progress.

Tomorrow will see a brief run before I take my half-class of yoga, and then work all day. I hate it when it's my turn to work on Saturdays.

Good progress, JJJ! I hope today's run leaves you in good working order.

GL, Rip. This should be an adventure! Your xtraining has kept your heart and lungs in good shape, now hopefully the foot will repay you for the lack of pounding this past month.

5 miles this morning in a progression from 9:05 to 7:59, 8:24 avg pace. I'm liking it.

Wow, Rip... good luck with that plan. I like your expected finish time. Always good to give yourself a range to work with. Hope your foot cooperates. Foot problems suck. I know this.

Pink, that makes sense... but our roads are barely canted and I run on the bike paths anyway, which are mostly flat but dip this way and that from frost heaving and settling. Nothing consistent. I was also noticing last night after my run (while walking) that my left foot is pretty much straight forward, but my right foot toes out a little. Forcing my right foot to be straight like the left was instantly felt in my knee and hip. So... I'm just lopsided. Oh well.

Nice run, mc. Funny thing about the group, like there was a "never mind" memo sent out that you and the other person didn't get.

Planning an easy RAL. DH leaves tonight for some educational conference or meetings or something in CO. I think he said Keystone. What I remember is him saying it's like 9,000 ft elevation. Holy cow, that's almost 2 miles above sea level! And of course, he started coming down with something earlier this week that's settled into a full blown chest cold, so he went to the doc yesterday and got loaded up with all sorts of meds. And this morning? I've got a sore throat and runny nose... Lovely. I haven't been sick in like... forever.

Friday alliteration--how can I resist? I usually run my short runs sans Garmin, but this morning I wanted to push the pace a little, closer to 8-min miles. I didn't worry too much when the first mile came in at 8:09, since I was still getting warmed up. The rest brought the average for 4 miles to 7:54 m/M. Not too bad for 74F and 82% RH. A warm weekend (last one???) is coming up, so I'll be taking it easy.
