I found a Forerunner 301 with heartrate monitor at Amazon for $ 146.77.

My only concern is the bulkiness of it. Great price so I am considering buying it anyway.

Question is- is it worth it? I returned to running a few months ago and want to keep track of pace, ect. but don't want to deal with keeping track of every single mile and hitting buttons on a watch.
Also, I'm ready to add hills and some are more intese then others where I live. The elvation knowledge would be a nice plus.
The virtual partner is another nice plus on this model.

Advice? If you have it, would you recommend it to someone?
If I buy it, I will order it tomorrow morning.

I use the 305 and I love it. However, the elevation data is practically worthless imo. For example. Today I did 2.2 miles on a short jog with the dog. Here is my elevation data:

Total Ascent:465 ft
Total Descent:520 ft

This is a 2.2 mile loop which means that my start and stop were at my front door.

I do love it and it estimates mileage pretty well. I love going out for a run and changing my route as I want taking dirt roads or powerline trails and still having a good estimate of my pace and distance.

I have a 301 and it doesn't seem to be bulky as it is narrow and fits the wrist just fine. I understand the 305 has a better reciever, but don't know if it is worth it as mine seems to work ok unless I am in a deep canyon and sometimes it will lose track. Larry

As a gps the 301 is fine as long as your not in the deep woods or running around tall city buildings. As a hrm, it sucks. 305 works better on both counts. The 301 hrm was so erratic I turned it off and just used the gps to track miles.
