Do it.

The world is much noisier than I ever imagined and for the first couple of months I found myself turning it off a lot because it was overhwelming at times. And sometimes at work I still do - my office is near the ambulatory surgery and every so often someone profoundly MR or with dementia makes lots of noise and I can tune them right out.

But you must do this. The world is richer and sound is fuller, and with more frequencies than I knew there were. I thought everything was bass. Well, there's treble, too.

I used to be able to hear kids whispering at the other side of the classrrom.

No longer, and my hearing tester said he hoped I wasn't an opera afficianado because I'd miss a few of the high notes.

Mother was right about going to loud rock concerts.

Who knew???

Rock concerts and aging. Pffft. Actually, though, I've been slightly deaf since childhood.

DO IT NOW.

When you're young and the neurons can still be trained. The problem, as Sue pointed out is not the volume (loudness) but the volume (amount) of sound. The alien-ness of it, it just doesn't sound "right" at first. Waving a piece of paper in the air sounds like sheet metal.

But your brain gets trained - if you're still young enough - and now it's second nature. I couldn't live without it, and I'm thankful I made the investment.

Good for you Sue!

Grizz, it was awful at first! And now I can't stand not having it in.

Feels like you've plugged your ear with cotton when the hearing aid is out, right?

Yes! And I only hear low sounds.

Kimbro, yes, I did. And it's fabulous! I finally found my niche - I'm the computer geek nurse.

Edited to add: And thanks for asking!
