Stolen shamelessly from my club's boards but with additional answers and edits of my own. Why? Because I thought it would be fun!

but 6 not 8 because tights that fit me before running are suitable as a tourniquet after I'm warmed up due to my monster calves. Or if they fit while running, then they are around me knees when not.

I wear shorts on the outside, and depending on the type of tights, I wear them on the inside as well. IF I'm running in WARM tights and not CW-X then I wear U/A underneath. I don't like to "show-off" so wear shorts, I even wear shorts for running over tri-shorts if it's not too hot and it's not a sprint.

Voted too quickly. Only was able to put in what I do, not what others SHOULD do.

But I can elaborate: Wearing shorts over tights is redundant. I have never done it and probably never will. As for what SHOULD runners do, as in what is appropriate, well, I am not one to believe there is any right way. I would never tell someone what they SHOULD do or put clamps around them, or judge others, in what they wear. If someone wears shorts over tights because they are self conscious, to that I would wish they were confident enough in who they are, what they are and believe in, and what they wear on their body to not have to do that. It is what it is. Life is too short to do otherwise.

the only time I wear more than one layer on the bottom is if it's really f'ing cold, then i tend to wear a warm tight layer and a looser windproof layer.

and for the rest of you? wear whatever you want. just please, please make sure that if your tights are tight and there's nothing over them, that you check the rearview. I really don't need to be able to tell if your *ss has freckles.

(please note, this also applies to women running around the mall in leggings)

I put other in terms of the rare possibility that I might run on an extremely cold, windy day and I didn't have any layering runderwear under my tights to help keep the family jewels properly warmed.

Otherwise, no way...though if you think about it, Superman has made a nice career of wearing his shorts over his tights

I'd like to point out that em mocks me EVERY time I wear something over my tights.. hey, it's a right of passage.. she practically wouldn't stand next to me the other day when I ran in black shirt and blue shorts.- I was planning a blue shirt , but it was too warm.

How can you wear shorts under running tights? The shorts will bunch up and just plain bad. Now wearing shorts over tights... I see lots of young kids do that, and I kind of understand where they come from. My DD begs me not to show up at school wearing running tights, or at least wearing shorts over them. She doesn't win this one.

What I wear--underwear under tights to keep seams out of when they don't belong.

What others should wear--gotta agree with em on this one! Really don't care what anyone else is wearing.

I used to wear shorts over cotton sweat pants in 1978. Underwear of a cotton variety doesn't seem like a good exercise base layer to me, running shorts all the way and yes under the tights
