I feel sorry for..The Duck...that Oregon mascot, how many pushups has he done so far this season? Oregon has gotta be the number two team in the nation as of right now. Now who can tell me what Oregon Duck was a great trackster/(13.7, 9.6. 25-11) running back while at Oregon, then an HOF defensive back in the NFL?

Michael Vick is playing better than ever, I confess I'm surprised. What a shame Michael Westbrook is no longer there to help out. You can never have too many weapons.

The Kansas City Cheifs...3-0? They do have the fastest runnig back in the league in Jamaal Charles, a legit sub10.20 sprinter while at Texas.

Does Florida miss Tebow or what? Jeff Demps being the fastest running back in the country. The current NCAA 100m champ. When he enters the NFL he will be the fastest back in league history. Nobody has ever ran faster than his 10.01.

If you're a 49er fan you (like I am) you can't help but be bummed thinking about how we could have had Aaron Rodgers instead of Alex "I have small hands" Smith.

What's with that Michigan QB? One highlight after another. Heisman?

Brett Favre blew it. He could have retired coming off a great season.I doubt that happens in 2010.

The media is making too big a deal over McNabb vs Vick. Players change teams all the time, just ask Deion Sanders, Herschel Walker and Rod Woodson.

Has there ever been a better example of .."now that I've got the big $$$$$....fuxxk it"...than the Redskins Albert Haynesworth?

With Florida, Tennessee and Georgia down in 2010 is the SEC still ..THE... NCAA conference?

Ok...if I was going to bet the farm on an NFL game this week.....Atlanta minus the points vs my Niners. No team in the league has scored less and gave up more than the Niners, they are a ..- 5.... the lowest (a power system I use) in the league. They aren't going to turn it around on the road vs a good team.

Top 10..?

2.Oregon

3.Ohio State

Jaysus...what happened to Texas?...inconsistent, penalties, stupid mistakes...they look like the three stooges...the quarterback, Gilbert, is supposed to have quite the arm...if they get it together, they could still have a decent season, but man, this just ain't the year for them...

Texas rarely loses two game in a row, so something is broke and needs fixing. No doubt losing McCoy and Shipley hurt. Now it's off to Nebraska.....ouch!!!!!!!!!! They also have Oklahoma State and Texas A&M down the road. No gurantees there. Hell, even Baylor might be a problem. Yep as you said...."inconsistent, penalties, stupid mistakes...they look like the three stooges"..couldn't agree more.

Not that they can't turn it around, beating Nebraska would be a great start.

Mel Renfro?...or was it Dan Fouts? ....Dan was big enough to be a lineman, but not dast enough to be a D back.

LSU looked positively horrible against Tennessee (who stink), but the finish was hilarious.

Auburn has only beaten one decent team so far (the other USC) but they'll probably go 10-2 as they only have to play Arkansas and Alabama in their remaining games...unless anyone thinks Georgia is more than a speedbump.

TCU lifted the pedal against Colorado State and that's probably not wise for them or Boise State. If you can score 100 you should probably try to do so...sportsmanship be damned.

LSU should have lost that game.......they looked like crapola.....I thought I might have to resuscitate DH a few times.

Good thing for us that those Tennesse-ians can't count! That was just insane and mass confusion. I still can't believe it,

Yep, Mel Renfro! Renfro actually ran a leg on a world record 4x1 team while at Oregon. Two other NFLers (short stay) and the great Canadian Harry Jerome were on the team.

Les Miles has never impressed me, he always seems to be lost. Yes that finish was comical...sheesh~

Not sure Auburn can't hang with Arkansas.Cam Newton has skills! Keep in mind that Arkie game with be a home slate. Yes they lose to Alabama on the road.

I agree that the TCU's needs to do all they can to look as impresissive as possible. I think the coachs need to talk among themselves prior to the season letting it be known how the system works so don't take it personal when I kick your butt.

I had a feeling that would happen. Strange how that works.

I use this system when betting vs the NFL point spread. It's all about 'spots" that teams are in since all NFL teams can beat all other NFL teams something we don't see in college ball. Florida would be Florida A&M 100 out of 100 games.

Keep in mind a team with be one of four things...

home fav

home dog

road fav

road dog

Historically speaking the strongest play is backing a home dog. You have the home team getting points. Like most people you don't want to sit down and spend a lot of time disecting info. Bookies understand this. So Joe Public stands little chance since this is a time consuming ordeal. You do need to know the personalities of these 32 teams. How they play in certain "spots". That does take time. If you think you can just wing it......nope!

Each year I purchase....Marc Lawrence PLAYBOOK....it's a magazine all about betting angles for both the NFL/NCAA. It's all there, everything you need to know about trends/angles/stats. Stuff like....

Coming off a bye week the Seattle Seahawks are 4-18 vs the spread. They are the worst team in the league coming off a bye. This year they will be on the road vs the Chicago Bears. I'd lean towards backing the Bears if the line isn't out of wack. Let's look at Kansas City coming off a bye because they will be. They are 11-11 vs the spread in that spot. Next week they play Indy (who is coming off a loss) in Indy. A place they are 2-8 vs the spread. How often do the Colts drop two in a row? With the Cheifs being 3-0 the odds makers will give some respect. The Colts will probably be a small fav. In this 'spot" I 'd lay the points. So as a player you search out plays where one team has a multitude of advantages. Obviously you're not going to win big because of turnovers/injuries/weather etc. You can however win more than you lose or around 65%. Anyone saying they win 75% or more....lying. That's if we are talking the NFL.

Scheduling dynamics are huge in the NFL. Many times we'll see one team playing another road game vs a team playing another home game. Hard to win back to back on the road, most teams rarely lose two back to back home games. Stuff like that is very important if you plan on beating the NFL point spread. You can't know too much.

I've never been a fan of a running QB in the NFL. You can play that in college but not in the pros. No way you can survive banging with that level of opposition being a QB.
I'd love to read on book on the history of the CFL. I always wondered why George Reed stayed in the CFL. You'd think some NFL team would have made him an over he couldn't refuse.

I think George was pretty happy in Regina. You also have to remember that in those days the CFL would outbid the NFL for a few players every year so the salary difference wouldn't be what it is today. For every Warren Moon or Joe Theismann there were 10 CFL players who headed to the NFL and were never heard from again.
Yeah a lot of guys can do really well on a 65 yard wide field, but have a whole lot of difficulty on a narrower American field where the players are much bigger.

In the early 50's both the CFL and NFL were pretty much part-time operations with some players making $50 or $100 per game. The NFL players got together and got that $5000 minimum which really separated them from the CFL.

Some of the players the Toronto Argos outbid NFL teams for would include Terry Metcalf (a bust in Canada), Joe Theismann (good, but not the best QB in the country), Anthony Davis (a total bust in Canada) and Rocket Ismail (an excellent receiver).

Doug Flutie was also a huge star in Canada (and his brother one of the all-time leading receivers) but there was no bidding war for him. He wanted to play and prove himself. The Canadian game was perfect for him...scramble city.

Presently the CFL pays it's big stars about $1 million (which is still good coin to keep one from driving a Budweiser truck) but the boys in the trenches still make $50,000 or less.

Here's an interesting link on some history of CFL-NFL relations.

Warren Moon anyone? Then there was Johnny "Ordinary Superstar" Rogers. Vince Ferragamo was the dud of all duds up here. Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, meh.

But look at players who could have played in the States and stayed here. Ben Cahoon... for one. 1003 receptions for over 13000 yards, 63 TDs....

He was the perfect example of a quarterback with the mobility of a statue. Back in the day that was the stereotypical NFL QB (Peyton is still pretty much in that genre) but in the CFL with every back running every which way it tended to be a recipe for a lot of punting.
