I can't stop!

Ok, the Bobby Flay Throwdown tonight was against Tony Luke's Cheese Steaks in Philly.

Yo!

For once I was sort of interested.

Of course Tony Luke won. It helped that the judges were from Philly, but, Flay always takes some "classic"
and makes it sort of crazy.

One thing that cracked me up. They're driving along, saying they're heading towards where Tony is cooking,
and they're driving TOWARDS the Art Museum (think Rocky steps), which is in the OPPOSITE direction of where
Luke was (he was at Independence Hall). A local thing, of course. By the way, the Art Museum is where the Philly
Marathon starts and ends. And the Philly Distance Run too. Meri knows.

And, at least if you have locals judging, they're not going to like wild differences.

I haven't watched a lot of these shows, but Flay has never won in the ones I've seen.

Also, by the way, i wouldn't mind trying Bobby Flay's version. Instead of green peppers, he had some poblanos. And, instead of Cheeze Whiz (which I never get if I have the option, I always opt for american), he made a nice looking sharp provolone sauce.

I would have liked to try Flay's version.

I don't have a problem with Flay.

Anyway, as far as Food Network goes, I don't like all their shows.

Paula Deen. She bores me, and her accent. Believe me, in my former jobs, I have been around a LOT of people from the South, and I have never run into someone with an accent as annoying as hers (to me, at least). And, I'm never really interested in what she has to offer food wise. Same with Rachel Ray.

Irvine...he's obnoxious and rude and nasty as hell, but for some reason, I enjoy his shows. I did like, one time, he told the people, "Look, I'm going to be very unpleasant over the next few days, and I'm apologizing now." I thought that was pretty good. I also enjoy Worst Chef's in America, although, same deal with Anne Burrell. She's obnoxious, but her own show. Not so bad.

That husband and wife cooking show, can't recall what it's called now, they are just too annoyingly sweet. Makes me want to vomit.

And the one that really bugs me. REALLY bugs me. As a matter of fact, I find everything about it offensive.

Outrageous Food.

The host, Tom Pizzica, seems like he's a Guy Fieri wannabe. He's not funny, his yelling (to me) is annoying as hell. He's an ass, grasping for his 15 minutes of fame. Actually, he's not an ass, he's an asshole. Can you get the idea that I don't like him?

And, then, the entire concept of the show, is just wrong (n my not so humble opinion). Hate to bring this all down. And, I know, there are excesses in this world, etc., etc., etc., and I'm not railing against waste and feed the homeless and all that (well, I kinda am), but there comes a point were things get stupid.

Do we really need to see a show where someone makes a 10 pound hamburger that is stacked with 1 foot of fries and cheese and onion rings and rolls and then have some 20-something testosterone filled pseudo-man try to eat it in an hour and he doesn't finish and all that food is wasted and the guy probably walks back to the bathroom and throws up 10 minutes later. All the time, this Pizzaca guy yelling, fist pumping, screaming the whole time.

Do we really need to see shit like that?

Well, I don't. I've watched it twice, and have never watched it again.

Phew! I'm spent. :)

WHYY it is on at random times over the weekends, and often at 7:30pm at night. It is also "Cooks Country Kitchen" where they are in a different location. I love love love the show. It is the best cooking show EVER. (after Alton)

I see you like Chopped, and yeah, I like it to. But I don't like the judges. I think they're pompous asses most of the time. I can not wait until March 6, when some of the contestants are actually some of those ass judges. I'm actually looking forward to it.

As for Iron Chef, some of them are jerks, but they seem far and few between. Mostly, because, I think, some of them are celebrities.

That one oldster food writer is a jerk. Can't recall his name. He is rude, overly critical, and offensive, and won't shut up. But actually complains when other people (in his little narrow mind) talk too much. But, then again, there's the drama again, as much as you can have on a cooking show.

oh yes, the judges are asses. The Italian guy, he always flips out when people put a little cheese with fish. They are over the top critical and i roll my eyes a lot. I did not see that some contestants will be judges, exciting. I want to see Alex G. and her butt competing in the Chopped Kitchen ;)

Just saw the episode of Good Eats where AB described how he lost 50 or so pounds. Anyway, he made this recipe as a snack. Just tried them, they're fantastic. And now that I know how to do it, I can try different variations with different spices.

Just made this recipe. Not vegan, or vegetarian, though. But, probably the most tender pork tenderloin I have ever made. And i've made a LOT of them, in the oven, gas grill, and charcoal grill (yes, I have both gas and charcoal).

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/grilled-pork-tenderloin-recipe/index.html

I think it was a combination of the turning the tenderloin every 2 minutes, and also the wrapping up of the tenderloin after done. I like the marinade, and I think the lime juice makes a difference in breaking down the tissue as well. Never used citrus before in meat marinades (although I have in fish).

AB's recipe did say, however, that the temp should reach 140 by 12 to 15 minutes. Mine took well over 20. Which is a lot of turning, but, heck, if I'm out there having a beer, cooking, what's 25 minutes? I think I needed more coals. They weren't hot enough.

The only real issue was, I was doing other things too, so I would turn, click my watch, then run in the house and do something quickly, then run back outside to the grill.

Yes.

I curl the lid of the Weber (left arm), the heat was so intense it was almost like Bikram Yoga, as I turned the tenderloin with an extra heavy pair of tongs (right arm), then curl the lid back down. I push the button on my watch to start the timer.

Then run over to the deck, do a hurdle onto the deck, sprint across it (weaving to avoid the dog who is looking for a handout or for me to drop some morsel), then flex my left bicep as I push the handle of the door down to open it.

Then sprinted across the den, weaving my way through shoes, dog toys, coffee table and love seat. Fortunately the couch and TV is not in my path, that might have been a show-stopper.

Finally making it into the kitchen, I made it to the stove in two long strides, maneuvering around the dog dish, picking up a spoon to stir the broccoli, avoiding the steam the whole time (more Bikram!). Then, dash back outside to the grill to start another set. All this had to be done in 2 minutes.

Each set was actually mentally challenging as well. One set was broccoli, the next flipping the potatoes, the next setting the table in the dining room, on the way back I would need to bring plates, marinade, tin foil.

It was a total mind and body work out.

As a matter of fact, with all that exercise, even with dinner, I was working on a calorie deficit. (OK, that part isn't true)

I admit to watching a lot more of the Food Network than I should, considering how gimmicky a lot of the shows are now. Some of the stuff I watch though is because of one of my younger nieces, who is a fan of a lot of the baking shows (she has aspirations of becoming a baker one of these days)

Ok, the Boston Cream Pie that the challenger made on Throwdown with Bobby Flay looked amazing.

I fell asleep before it was over though, so I don't know who won.
