Hey all,

I know there seem to be some serious swim concerns from among this group. I wish I could *virtually* help you all. The swim video is in phase 1 of production. In the interim, if anyone is near the Atlanta area and could benefit from my swim clinic, Jan 13, 3:00pm-6:00pm.

Tithers took this so she could possibly speak to its value. ?

Each person video taped with analysis, lots of work on drills and relating it to each person. We cap the clinic at 8 people so there is a good amount of individual attention.

Tim Storsteen and I try to do one 1x/month. So if this round won't work for you but you're interested, let me know and I'll keep you in the loop for future clinics.

Swim on, little fishies!

Sound great! Is the training actually conducted in Atlanta? What is the cost involved? I may see me driving to Atlanta in the near future. I need help drastically on my swim.

Ah! Good timing CC...I was JUST about to write my "Ode to the Swim Clinic."

Ok-I need to go throw some grades at the kindergarten teachers...do car rider duty...run some super-secret tempo...lift some heavy weights...eat and do whatever comes after eating.

Then you'll get a short swim clinic report.

I PROMISE it won't be nearly as long as the IM report(S)...then again 2-3 hours verses 14...hmmmmmmm!

I'm still waiting to know which brand model that hot purple swimsuit you had...Sherry was likin' it!

Trust me...it's fine to do it the week before the half. You're not in the pool the whole time. You analyze video, talk about drills, etc...PLUS...as TriDaddy likes to say...swim has no impact (not like runnin or biking) so it's good to do whenever.

Sheldon lets me swim as much as I want...I was swimming "large #s" during my IM Taper...just sayin'

Ok...Tithers' OFFICIAL Report!

Sherry’s Swim Clinic Report

One day I get this email in my box…it was from CC…she said, “Sherry-you MUST come to swim clinic. All the super-hawt triathletes attend.”

I’ve had friends that recommended her clinics to me. Everyone that I’ve talked with has come out saying that they were a better swimmer and had a more powerful stroke. Since I look up to my fellow Ironman friends…what would I have to lose?

Finally-after Tri-Season was over my schedule was opened up to attend…I almost had to cancel on the clinic because my tattoo had to get re-inked.

A week after I got the inside of the M-dot re-shaded, I caked some ointment on threw my clothes off like I was in “Showgirls” and dug around for my cap and goggles. TG I had my goggles. Tithers has a bad habit of forgetting goggles. Yes. She has 3 pair!

After a short intro from CC and Tim we were told our taping order (I was last-they didn’t want to intimidate the other swimmers). So-while we waited we had to warm-up in the other lanes. Jeebus! When was the last time I swum? Oh yeah. Like a month ago! I was surprised I was able to stay afloat.

So, it comes my turn to swim. I swim from Tim and his camera to CC on the other end of the pool. She’s sweet. She called me honey and other affectionate terms. I felt special. Then she told me she likes to call people that so they’re not nervous. Sherry? Nervous? Did I look nervous? Ruh-roh! I wasn’t nervous. Or was I? I swam some more laps taped by Mr. Tim.
Fast forward! Time to grab a towel! So-they passed out the clip boards…the blank paper…the pencils. I was at the end of the line. I got the chewed up pencil. Oh well. It’s better than when the kids at school sneeze and get snot all over my xylophone mallets. I was super-excited for some real critique!

So-first victim was up. Lots of time was spent on him. He needed lots of time! What’s great about watching everyone on tape-not just yourself-is seeing what they do…b/c chances are-a lot of what they do that’s funny is something you also do. Or perhaps it’s something that you had to correct in the past. Reinforcement is key for my learning style.

I also liked trying to ID problems before CC or Tim would say them…perhaps it’s the teacher in me…always trying to analyze my students-what would I tell that person to help make their stroke better. Whatever I would’ve said was much more eloquently said by CC and Tim…crap they’re the experts who know the “terms” and ins-and outs of teaching folks how to swim. I just know how not to drown and how to sight instead of following schools of fishies in an OWS J

OK…I found this HILARIOUS…so CC…ummm…you won’t mind me posting this. CC and Tim were critiquing a fellow triathlete. CC-you know…on her signature-the professional eater-was chowing on a granola bar. I was hungry. I thought about grabbing it off the tv stand when she turned around. Anyhoo-she drops it on the pool deck and picks it up and eats it. We had a cute married couple there. Cute married couple wife (Swimmer/Runner-about to buy a bike), “OMG-you’re eating that?”
CC’s Response: “Sister-we’re triathletes-we eat off PAVEMENT!” The look on cute married girls face…ha!

Ok…after about 7 people…it’s MY TURN. Oh yah…forgot to mention…THE CLINICS ARE SMALL!!!! I’ve been to swim clinics where there were 20-30 other swimmers. I felt like I got the attention I needed/deserved/paid for. Research shows that the student/teacher ratio is key to success. Please don’t make me quote a study. I can find one if you want.

Oh…back to MY TURN! Always start with the positive! I’m a great breather! You can only see one goggle eye coming out of the water. I had good extension…but of course…there were a few funky things about my swim. Remember. CC has the video. She will sell it at a nominal fee. Sherry in a black speedo. Only if I get a cut!

So-I over reach with my right hand when entering the water, and my left hand enters the water and scooped down then back up.

I also think I was labeled as the girl with the slowest recovery in the stroke in all of North America. I was RECOVERING…what can I say!
My head was too low, while most people’s were too high…
My left hand was over-finishing, which caused too much rotation when I stroke that side.
I don’t finish my stroke when my hands get to my hips.

After we get the critiques it’s time for drillz and skillz. I’m not gonna post much here about it b/c that’s the steak and potatoes of making a better swimmer. We got a handout and got to keep out clipboards and pencils. We sat along the edge of the pool and were allowed to dangle our feet in the water. So glad I had a pedicure!

We got to see CC demonstrate all the drills on the handout…take notes and admire her in her pink IM Louisville cap and HOT-LOOKING purple swimsuit. I’m still waiting on details on it so I can convince the hubby to buy it for me. If not I’ll buy it for myself. I’m a modern woman.

Watching CC swim is like watching a fish in the water. She precision and relaxation looks like we were meant to be water creatures. She just glides right through. Of course…we got jokes inb/w each drill…she’s good at giving us a hard time…in a loving way. Kinda like how I give CS a hard time. It’s outta love! Well-you know…non-stalkerish kinda love.

We were told to split up in pairs into lanes and got to demonstrate the drills w/both CC and Tim giving us helpful advice. Something was said to me…always with positive reinforcement on how to improve. I never got to the end of the pool without a comment waiting. I like comments. Comments are helpful. ‘Nuff said!

Tithers...
A weakness of mine is new swim suits.
I love 'em!

I can type the URLs to all the cool swim companies by heart....isn't that sad?

Oh...speaking of kid snot.....
What is it about teachers, aunties, moms, and dads that allows them to touch the grossest stuff and not worry about it. I've been sneezed on (gross), coughed on (not much less gross), and even pooped on (ok, she was only 1 week old, it wasn't her fault). but, what surprises me most are the times when I will willingly take food from a child's mouth (that they want to spit out, not by force!) and calmly junk it in the trash. Ever see the look on a toddlers face when she/he gets a mouth full of choco mint cookie and doesn't like it? he he he. You can soooo tell that they don't like it. It just comes falling out of their mouths.

Yeah.....
I'm a sympathy puker.

But, I'm just sayin' that folks in these positions tend to have higher "grosss tolerance" than your average off the street person who doesn't have or interact with kids on a regular basis.

Tithers - You haven't seen anyone not be able to swim until you seen me swim. I have never had a lesson a day in my life. Self taught and I haven't even read a book about swimming yet.

Just starting this Triathlon thing.

You can't get any worse.

2 falls ago I did my first sprint tri. I came in LAST in my AG for the swim.
This year I did relay(swim portion) I calculated my results and came in 4th/50 in my AG. That's AWESOME!

A few lessons/clinics will REALLY help you! Now's the time to work it!
