1. Why do you run?
I run for many reasons, stress relief, weight control and just to get away from work.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
I guess it is the fact that I lucked into a SMALL 50K here in town and I actually won it once, although after I posted my race report I had a lot of negative comments since my winning time was so slow.

3. What is your motto/theme song?
This year it has been "If You're Going Through Hell" by Rodney Atkins
4. How do you deal with bad runs?
Not well at all. It does seem to affect me for a few days. Most of my bad runs happen during the heat of the summer here in Florida and I hate the fact that it really knocks me to my knees.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? I sort of do. How? I usually have an extra beer or 2.

6. Who do you admire most? I guess my Dad, he has been through so much this year and he has never publicly wavered in his dedication to family

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
I can't think of anything specific that was ever told to me that was life altering.

8. What do wish you had learned younger? To not be so shy around girls. I know it doesnt do me much good now since I am married but i think I missed out on some chances in hs and college to meet some nice people since I am so shy.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't? Control my snacking. I suck at it.

10. How would your friends describe your personality? I dont know, I am generally pretty shy in public until I know you and then I will finally loosen up. I do seem to shock people when they hear that I used to listen to heavy metal all the time growing up.

11. What do you wear running? Look at my race pictures, what do you think shorts, socks and shoes! It is to hot for shirts down here most of the time. favorite outfit? I don't have a favorite running outfit but I do have a shirt that my wife thinks is just way to loud and ugly that I will wear from time to time but I don't have a specific outfit that I like.

12. What has been your favorite race? I really enjoyed my road trip to Tampa for the their Triple Challenge. It was a 15K and 5K on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. I also enjoyed the Silver Comet Ultra up in the suburbs of Atlanta since I ran a kick ass time there.

13. Do you have a goal race right now? The Tahoe Triple in the Fall of 2008, if i can figure out how to train for that during the heat of the Florida summer.

14. What makes you happy? Seeing my wife and kids happy.

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past. I used to play Rugby in college. I played mostly fullback but by the time I had finished playing I had played every position except hooker at least once.

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!). I haven't met anyone from here, although I hope to meet anyone coming into town next February for the Breast Cancer Marathon. I would like to say thanks again to Diablita for her great restaurant recomendations when I was down in Miami for a 4 day training class.

This was a lot of fun, I will try and answer any other questions that pop up later on today.

The 50K I run was my first one and it is called the Guana 50K. I ended up reposting the race report here:

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...D7654D50901509

At least I think that link will work.

If not go to my blog at: http://www.myspace.com/floridaboiler and scroll backwards through it until you see the report dated: Friday, October 20, 2006 and it says My first 50K Race report.

I think any race that comes out with a win is an awesome race there Eric. I too am quite shy, but now I'm way better than I was. I also definitely feel you on the snacking thing...the beast in me is never satisfied.

Nice to meet you sir.

That really sucks about your 50k race report flack. I won my divison once at a 5k because I was the only one and it was a PR for me and they didn't announce the time because it was slow.

Did your feelings about your accomplishment change when people started to give you flack? Were you still able to keep your excitement?

It made me mad initially but as I talked to more people they all said the same thing. It doesn't matter the size of the race. You ran the whole thing and you beat everyone else. The time doesnt matter so don't worry about it.

Granted I still have to get a trophy made for it. The race was so small all I got was a gift certifcate that was actually less than the cost of the entry fee I think.

Wait. You won a 50K and other people are giving you sh!t about your finishing time? Hey...if they want to give you sh!t about it, let them get their sorry a$$es out there and do it!

Sorry folks, that kind of thing bugs the heck out of me. It's happened to me back when I was heavier and finished marathons, people would say "Oh I can beat that." My answer was "Then go out and do it." They never did.

FB - Very interesting post. Thanks letting us get to know you a little better. If I'm ever in FL I'd love to go for a run with you.

EQ,
The worst part is the comments were coming from other ultra runners. I can't find the thread over at CR anymore to link to it so I can't give you any examples of the comments.

I will run with anyone that ever visits Jax.

I too am that you got negative comments on your 50k win. I've been mostly impressed by how encouraging runners are nearly all the time. I enjoy reading your run and race reports.

Thanks for sharing some of yourself with us, shy guy.

It's good to know a little bit more about you. I think it's terriffic that you won that race and I remember reading the RR when you first posted it.
