Flooding closes a canal?

<p>I was there earlier in the year. It's pretty amazing to see the Chagres River so low that they couldn't get these long dugouts up very far, but you could see where the water level was in the rainy season. It was waaaay up the banks....probably 20 feet higher.</p>

<p>I guess if Lake Gatun gets too high the water could be over the top of the lock gates and flowing like a waterfall.</p>

<p>Could be a quicker trip for the big ships...kinda like a thrill ride.</p>
