I signed up a while ago for my first off road tri scheduled to go off tomorrow. I received an email that due to high water temps, they are considering not allowing wetsuits. Not quite sure how to handle this if they aren;t allowed. The swim is by far my weakest event. I just started swimming last year and rely very very heavily on my wetsuit bouyancy in OWS. I've done the distance in the pool, but haven't attempted OWS w/o my beloved wetsuit. The format of the swim is 200yd beach run to a 500yd swim followed by another 200yd beach run and a second 500yd swim. then the fun begins with 20K mtb and 6k trail run.

Any suggestions to help mentally prepare? I definately don't want to be a DNS but also would totally hate to be hanging off a rescue kayak...

Wait for everyone else to get in the water to avoid the thrashing in the beginning, this way you get your bearings and can settle in to your own pace AND if you get in trouble the kayakers will see you AND you can roll over and do backstroke for a bit. For me in OW I always remember if I get flustered then I can roll over on my back and catch my breath.

Good luck out there! YOU can do this!

Packing gear for the race tomorrow and I'm wondering how to handle the hydration ... i always use a camelbak when MTB but havn't ever used one in a race. I haven't practiced drinking from a waterbottle why MTB at race pace (could be very comical sight) ... any experience out there? JR? Also, my critical tools (and a few not so critical) are in the camelbak. I'd need to figure out what to do with that... hmmm should have thought about this much earlier.
