Happy 4th, everyone!

I was supposed to do a mile race last night but organizing 2 daughters and a wife after work did not get me to the church on time (race was sponsored by a church). I was kinda bummed because I've not raced a mile and this was a blazing fast course. The consolation was that I was planning to race a 5k with my 10 mth old in the baby jogger this morning.

We got there, signed up (not stroller friendly on the signup - it was upstairs!) and did a 2 mile warm up. Lowry was prepared in her racing pajamas that said I <heart> Dad. I could tell this was a fast field and figured I could get pulled to a good time (previous stroller PR is 18:40). No major hills on the course and pretty decent road surface, but there was a little wind which you notice more with a wide stroller since it's like running with a sandwich board on! Got a good spot on the start line, off to the side on a wide road so no worries on interfering with anyone else. First mile was very fast - 5:32. I felt really good and more importantly Lowry was chillaxing comfortably in the stroller.
2nd mile included the turnaround which is always a little tricky - I have to take it kinda wide so she doesn't fly out of her seat. When we turned, the wind found us and we slowed down a little to 5:55. Still pretty good but I'm starting to get a little tired. As usual Lowry got lots of cheers for being the first baby (unofficially the 2nd female). We passed a few people, but by the 2 mile mark there weren't many around us.
We got passed by an older guy with a little less than a half mile to go on an uphill which got us motivated again despite really starting to feel that too-fast first mile. I didn't see the 3 mile mark, but the last 100-150 meters were on a slight uphill and into a stiff wind - I had thought we had a slim chance of breaking 18 minutes, but that stretch did us in and we rolled in at 18:07, 19th place o'all, 2nd in my age group, 2nd unoffical female, 1st in the stroller division...and we claimed 2 major victims. 2 guys that finished just behind us ended up on their hands and knees making their sacrificial breakfast offer to the Lactic Acid God!
Very fun morning, perfect temp for it, and Lowry was a champ. It's a good sign for me as my solo PR isn't much faster than the time we ran this morning so that's very encouraging.
Thanks for reading!

Congrats great race - from the other racers perspective - It really sucks getting beaten by "Stroller Guy"

We have a sub 36:00 10k "Stroller Guy" around here - but that's all changed since they had their 2nd child - how he's pushing the double wide and I can beat him

Unbelievable time, and the fact that you had a stroller is just that much better. Nothing worse than getting passed by "stroller guy".

Great job Lowry! Pretty nice of you to wheel the race dragging a caboose!

Nice teamwork.

PS - 2 strollers beat me today. I was close to #2 for a while before the baby stepped on the gas and pulled away.

Great race Pacer!!!

I too have a stroller nemesis in Birmingham. That guy is just too fast. I've come close to beating him before. In fact, I had him beat until I had to pit for a pee stop last december in a 5k.

The only thing that would make you more of a God would be if you were not only the stroller guy, but the stroller-guy-running-in-Dockers (or jean shorts...there's always at least one of them in the Bridge Run 10k each year...)

I think I know where you're picking up those amazing guns of yours now, Pacer. Big time congrats to you & Lowry (you'll spoil her with all these up front finishes if you don't watch out )

Nothing worse than getting smoked by a dude pushing a baby jogger. Had it happen during some speedwork drills at the local comm. college a couple of years ago.

At least Lowry is a cutie, that would make it more tolerable

Great job Pacer

Brings back some memories of the "stroller wars" between my DH (pushing our two kids), and I. We used to race at the AFB he worked at. The race usually cheered for the stroller.
