Its another one of those silly black tie ones which dismays me; i'd so much rather wear my hideous reindeer sweater like I do to all the other ones BUT, there is open bar all night which i'll be indulging in heavily PLUS its a much needed night away from the ILs. (mIL forgot to take her meds tues. Aweeeeesomeness)

I did day 1 of 30 day shred w/ JM and it went fine. It wasn't the same effect as a run but it got my HR up so thats good. I have a ? Re: hand weights - this is coming from someone who has essentially never used them. Lol. How big of weights should I get? 3#? 5? 7? Brandy? Anyone else?

I also ate totally clean ystrdy and felt gteat. Hoping i'm on my way somewhere...

Greetings, Missy! Enjoy the partay tonight and the time away from the MiL!

I'm back on counting calories, effective immediately, as my loose fitting jeans are nearing my skinny jeans feel. Enough already!

Prae - I saw the email for the Christmas card list. Thanks again so very much for handling the distribution this year!

Morning peeps!!!

Well, I finished my test for my 706 (Technology) class last night....FINALLY. Um, can you say "make all four choices almost exactly the same, and throw in questions that we NEVER covered in class???" Gah. That just leaves me with one 10-12 page literature review, plus this week's and next week's reading (all for the same class....really? reading assignments during finals week???) and then I'm officially DONE with my first semester of Library school!!! It's hard to believe...

I was looking over a training schedule last night, fiddling with it. I'm trying to figure out a good way to get to HM shape for Glass City without injuring myself...I think I've got enough time (4+ months). The schedule was set up for a month out from your goal race (5k, 10k, HM-which was a longer lead time), so I was thinking I might run through the 5k plan the first month, the 10k plan the second month, and then do the HM plan (which was an 8 week schedule)...which would put me ready for Glass City with a little wiggle room. The only thing is that the schedule has me running 5 days a week, which will take some getting used to as I used to only run 4 days. Thoughts?

I'm seriously considering Seattle in June, too.....so, so tempting.

Ok, gotta do some more reading, but I'll pop back in. I get to see [insert yet-to-be-determined-nickname-here] tonight. He's running the Palm Beaches Marathon this Sunday....wOOt!

Morning, friends. I'm glad to see that the address list distribution went well. If you're not on the list, you didn't receive an invitation to view the document. You can email me at kate.floros at gmail and I'll add you. You can also add your address if you hadn't gotten around to it before I posted. Also, even if you don't want to send cards, put your address on the list if you want to receive cards. Believe me, they're awesome! Let me know if anyone has problems.

Massage this morning followed by an eye appointment. Hopefully whatever crud is clogging them up has worked itself out.

My new photo scanner arrived last night and I cannot wait to begin scanning in old family photos. I want to put them on my other computer (where all my other pictures are) and it's at work, so I can't start until tonight. Excited!

Have a great party, Missy!

Good luck with the good eating, renewed exercising to those starting afresh!

Morning peeps! Ha - love the thread title today!

I just ran 50 minutes. It is 19 degrees out there! Chilly, but not bad.

Missy - I would go with 3 or 5 lb weights if you are just starting out, but it depends on what you are doing. (I do 5#, 12# and 30# depending on the exercise).

Ail - I am in the same boat - or should be. I keep saying I am going to watch it, but I have been eating like a pig lately anyway. Darn Girl Scout cookies aren't helping my cause either.

Nice to see Coach stopping in!

Congrats on one test down Ann! And good luck to he-who-has-not-yet-been-nicknamed. I have a friend running that one as well this weekend. It is his first marathon!

What else? It's Friday! No going out for me, but we are planning to have a family movie night. :) Sounds just my speed for tonight.

Morning!

Thank you for all the kind thoughts, DDs appointment went well yesterday - she is quite the little trouper. But we won't know anything for sure until next week after her films are read in Syracuse. They may want her to wear a 24 hour monitor for further testing, we have to wait and see. Seeing her heart in action was wicked cool if you're into that kind of thing.

Missy - After Brandy's enthusiatic reviews, I bought the 30DS too and also really like it. I use 5#.

I'm hoping to get back in the saddle this weekend too. DH and I have a gym date (sorry Maria ) tomorrow morning and meal planning is also on the agenda. It helps me to organize the week and not feel so stressed about dinner plans. We won't even talk about skinny jeans...

Coach T! I totally thought of you when I was in Rochester last weekend and people were talking about garbage plates.

Happy Friday!

Ann- yes, especially with all the logistics involved with Moonie's move. I've never before lived with anyone other than family or female friends.

I am so freakin' glad it is Friday! My concert for my community chorus is this Sunday, one of my coworkers is coming with his wife and my sister is coming too. That will be fun, I like our music. We had a lot of problems with our trickiest piece (a 7 movement, 40 minute work) at rehearsal last night, but in my experience, the adage of "bad dress rehearsal = good performance" tends to hold true. I like the chorus, but does involve a lot of time. I have to take a hiatus for spring, in fact, because of things getting busier at work and working extra hours there.

sorry Ann, not really. The things that make me say "whoa, how did I get to be an adult" are the type of things that Tonya and I have been dealing with the last 18 months or so.

Fun plans for the weekend: hockey game tomorrow night.

NCRG - we're getting back into that type of planning as well. We've been reacting/eating out way too much while I was incapacitated. Actually looking forward to going to the grocery store!

Missy --

General rule of thumb re weights = the last rep should be challenging. Not so challenging that your form is compromised, but challenging enough that rep #10 feels significantly harder than rep #1 did. If you're doing the 10th curl or press or whatever and it's just as easy as the first couple were, go up in weight. If you get to the fifth rep and you can barely lift it, go down in weight.

(All that being said, you probably need different weights for different exercises. Some muscles are bigger and stronger than others.)

If you choose your weights accordingly, you should be comfortably sore the next day or two after your workout. Not so sore that you can't move, but that good "I did something great for myself" kind of sore.

Does that help?

Good morning all! I met up with a friend for a lovely 6.6 miles along the bridle path this morning. Missy, there were SOOOOO many doggies out too, it made me miss you and Bella even more! One particular dog ran high up the hill that hits the wall on CPW and sorta barrel rolled himself back down, getting tons and tons of leaves caught in his long hair on the way down. It was pure awesome.

Trevor - Good to see you checking in! How's the fam?

Missy – I’m leaning a bit more towards Bear Mtn and will certainly keep you posted; would LOVE to have the support! As for weights, I think 5-8 lbs (3s until you get used to the moves) are good for all front and side lifting stuff and then 10-12 lbs for chest presses and raises above your head, upright rows, etc

Thanks Prae, got the list opened just fine

Ann – running another day a week is easy as long as you keep the actual run easy, force yourself if need be; totally helps in preventing injuries while increasing mileage

This weekend should be a fun one! Tonight starts with an event we've labeled "Chinatown Odyssey" ... our kickball league had a charity component to it and this event is the result of an auction. Most teams had one player auctioned off where the winning bid bought a date with the player, set up as various activities; some people did it as a workout date w/a meal afterwards, others had a specific event the player would take the winner to but our team decided to do it as an outing with the whole team. So this dude who bid and won our auction got himself a night w/our whole team -- cocktails, hot pot and karaoke in Chinatown. Should be a blast!

Tomorrow is my friend Claire's 3rd beer run, this one takes place in Gramercy, East Village, Lower East Side and back to Madison Sq Park ending at Shake Shack; running to bar spots along the way. More fun ...wheee!

dude.

This is the first 5 day week I've worked since September. Last month, I was out sick so much, I only worked 11 of 18 work days. Crazy.

Supah busy here. Oy. I'm weeding through looooong contact reports trying to get the relevant stuff into my report and it's making my eyes ache.

My trainers been having me use 8# and 12# weights for everything. I think he's nuts but if what Theia said is true (only mildly sore after), then he's right on track.

I know I have more to say, but my mind's a blob right now...I'll come back soon!

Hi all - had my goodbye luncheon yesterday; it was pretty weird being on the other side of things but it was a good affair.

Coach - good seeing you post again and thanks. I know a lot of people have become occasional or every once in awhile posters - I know that I myself don't have as much time to post as much as I would like.

Missy - maybe you can go to the store and kinda' do a little experimentation with the various weights. Like Theia said though, weights are going to vary depending on the relative strength of the muscle group you're exercising. And have a great party!

Ann - my feelings are kinda' same as yours as well.

KP - I was thinking Braveheart before you posted about your regained FREEEEEDOM yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting back to the grocery store myself - I've been kinda' doing a last better-eat-it-now run through this area at various restaurants. I know it can't be friendly to my waistline, and there's nothing like a good homecooked meal

This weekend I'm looking forward to a mad scramble followed by two weeks of work training in Florida and then what I imagine will be a whirlwind of a final 10 days or so here before the move. So maybe this is an appropriate time to ask a QOD - Do you have any funny and/or interesting moving stories?

I guess mine would be basically the last time I had to move - I had graduated college, my apartment lease ran out in the middle of the summer, and I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do in terms of my next residence.

However, I was still currently employed by the university in their residence housing. Thankfully, my boss was kind enough to put me up in one of the dorm rooms until my work stint ended. But since I was only using that place to sleep more than anything else, I had nowhere really to put all my worldly treasures, so I crammed them inside the back of my beatup, sh!t-brown-colored late 70s Cutlass Salon. What made it worse was daily temps there regularly reached triple digits (and probably much more inside that car) so I was baking the life out of my stuff .

I was actually kinda' surprised it was never broken into during that time, but I guess my possessions weren't worth grabbing LOL.
