Ever since I started running, I'd see things online about pacing....
I've asked questions here about pacing...

Mostly, because I don't "get" pacing very well.

Then, I got a gadget. Gadget geek me likes glancing down and seeing pace. The visual plus the check in with my body has helped me graduall start to get a feel for pacing.

BUT,
Still, when you see workouts or plans with:
X min @ half-marathon pace....or 10K pace....or whatever. They still baffled me.

THEN...
Yay....I asked CS what that all meant, along with what I thought it meant.

Ok, I was 75% wrong, but the answer made me:

Basically, for what I'll need to do...
Half marathon pace is just quicker than conversational pace..... a single sentence of talking would wind, but not cause me to gasp and be out of breath.

10k pace is half a sentence with the same results.

5K pace is "talk to the hand." (I liked that one).

THOSE are pacing indicators I can feel and figure out. Those I "get"!

So...for folks who're having trouble with that (Gawd, please don't let me be the only one...just the one who's willing to raise her hand in class and say, "yeah....I'm not gettin' that part, teacher."....

Perhaps this is useful information.

If not...
My banana's dancing, cause I learned something new.

You are too funny. But I do like the explanation that CS gave you. Especially "Talk to the Hand"! I don't think I could even do that at 5K pace.

Ha...sheldon explained it to me a few times...each time he would breathe heavily into the phone! Should Mr. Tithers be worried?

A bush?

Didn't CS tell you that puking on the run is just like peeing on the bike?

Noooooooo......
we haven't gotten to THAT lesson yet.

We're still working on, "No, no, no.......you're not a part of THAT food chain!" Right?

Besides, my swim coach has ingrained in me, "If thou must puketh, thou musteth maketh iteth to the busheth.....or I shall have to cleaneth the pooleth upeth." AND, if that ever happens....I'lleth be in troubleth!

Good thing you'll never do intervals at mile pace.
You will do fartleks at faster than 5k though. Throwing up after the 5th is optional.

ONE time, after a particularly difficult sprint set...just after I finished, I was thinking...."uh oh!"

That's when it got started.

But, then....."I think we've just found Stitcher's limit!" was her comment. So, now we know that feeling, and we don't cross that line.

I can swim close to that feeling now....for almost a 100 yds.....but, I'm a bit cranky afterwards. When I do distances...my last 75-100 yds is right on that puky feeling line.

Ok...making a note.
hurling after 5 is optional...but not before.
hmmm......
lol

As long as it's not in public, I'm ok.

On a side note: my mom and sis both don't get how I think it's fun to swim to the puke line...or to run and get all hot and sweaty. When sis was a gymnast...she used to cry and cry when they had to run for conditioning. But then, I didn't do this back when I was younger. I waited till I "grew up" (whatever that means) to find out I liked it.

See, I never understood it either. I always feel like I have one pace: slow. My normal speed. And it doesn't make sense to me to add minutes on to that pace for certain workouts, because I'd be practically moving backwards.

Good explanation, CS! And thanks for sharing it!

Ummmmm
I think that's a level of coordination that I can only hope to aspire to achieve one day.
