I was just watching a track meet in France and in the 3000m Steeplechase they mistakenly rang the bell with 2 laps to go. The race leader crossed the finish line and thinking he won put his arms up and slowed down. Then the rest of the runners kept going and so he jumped back in the pack and ran the real last lap. It was the end of the show and I didn't hear what they were going to do about it. Track workers had even started to remove the barricades before the final lap. Pretty monumental screw-up for some official I think.

At the end of the show, they made a comment that they gave Koech the win, yet the results flashed up and he wasn't the winner. The commentor pretty much said "it doesn't really matter". I'm sure there'll be more about it, esp. if $$ is involved. I guess I wouldn't blame the guy as it looks as if he had a chance to go sub-8. I'm not sure but isn't there a big payout for the best performance of the meet???

I know they kept talking about the prize money for these events, so I think this will probably result in some sort of legal maneuvering or appeals or whatever process is in place. I'm guessing the bell ringer is not going to be having a fun chat with his boss right now.

Thiswas in France? Perhaps they rang the bell so they could leave work early and start a track worker's union strik or something...
