Morning everyone!

Well, I took my second swing at a Fall marathon and it did not quite work out as planned. Official time: 3:44:09. Not sure what exactly happened, but the wheels started falling off before mile 7. Not good when you have almost 20 more to go. But I gutted it out and am actually pretty satisfied with how it all went down. Not ideal, but it was a good weekend and I love the Grand Rapids Marathon. Definitely one of my favorites. I'll put together a race report soon.

Hawk - have a great vacation! It is 39 degrees here and all the wind over the weekend took down most of our fall colors so it is starting to look wintery here. Wish I was in the Carribean!

Tim - nice race this weekend following your long run! Very impressive.

What do you all think of the adjusted NYCM qualifying times? I have to admit I am bummed b/c it has been a long-standing goal of mine to qualify with a half (I am just always focused on marathon training so I haven't given it a shot in recent years). Now the standards are pretty much sub-elite and I'll never get in. Oh well....

Have a great week!

NYCM - Yeah, I understand why they did it, but I'm bummed too. I turn 40 on Wed and I would have had a shot at either sub 3:10 or sub 1:30. But the new standards, no way!

Sorry that your race didn't go like you planned. It's rough to do all of that training, get out there and realize that it just isn't your day.

I had a monster last week, before kinda starting to taper this week. Although, I'm doing one last track workout on Wed of this week, before I really shut it down for the race.

Awesome work Tim! I know I have told you 100 times, but I am really looking forward to seeing things come together for you in the next couple of months for your races.

I did my race report last night. No photos yet, but the gory details are here: http://runninlaw.blogspot.com/2011/10/grand-rapids-marathon-2011-race-report.html

Hey there you two. Quick check-in from the VI...still there 2 more days.

Last week's mileage ended up around 35, right on plan as it was what I've been calling a cross training week. Finished it off though with 20.5 on Saturday.

Somewhat lighter week while on vacation though I've been quite active. I've probably swum/snorkeled about 3 miles and seen some unbelievable things. While we were in St. John I ran a loop near the hotel a few times. It had some massive hills, adding to the challenge of 90 degree temps. But the views...amazing. It will be interesting to tabulate all this activity up in the log when I get back.

RIL - great job on the race even if it wasn't your A game. That is exactly what happened to me at NYC last year.

And Tim...great week!

Speaking of NYC...I'm glad I qualified and ran it last year. I got in with a sub-1:30 half. In my AG the marathon standard is now 2:58! Or 1:25 for a half, which is a little more achievable...but still it would take my A+ game on a perfect day.
