Alright, let's keep this train going. I will try to post on Sunday evenings, but if I slack off, it is because life takes over, not lack of interest. So anyone feel free to start this tread up.

That said, anyone is welcome. Just let us know your goals and check in.

Yikes, I am up this weekend. Not only am I doing Tough Mudder, I am doing the Capital Mile the next day. Not really racing it, but I can't skip it. This is one me and the boys have done every year for the last 6. I may end up with an 8 minute mile, but I'm going to drag myself out there. :)

It is crazy hot here now and will be all week. Stay cool and happy running!!

Week #3 in the books:

M: pilates / arms

T: 8 miles with track workout (300s and 200s in relay)

W: 7 easy and slow (9:38) / pilates

T: 12 easy (9:31)

F: 18 easy (9:41)

Saturday: rest

Sunday: 10 easy (9:47) / arms & pilates

Total: 55 miles

It has been warm here (especially today), but there really is no excuse for my insanely slow paces other than fatigue. I think that is okay given I ramped up from 0 to 55 mpw in 3 weeks, but it has to start changing soon. I can't locate my HRM, so I have no idea where I am with that....

I am very happy with bumping back up the miles in a big way. I have to remind myself that many of my training schedules MAXED out at 55 mpw, so I should be happy to hit it at week 3. But I am crawling. Progress soon I hope.

Hawk - hope that hammy is cooperating!

zrun - any suggestions for half marathons? There really isn't anything here but the Mini.....

Nice week, RIL. Sounds like quite an interesting race double this weekend. Don't worry about the paces in the heat, just be consistent with the effort. Paces will pick up when things cool a little.

As for the hammy it's still got me sidelined for the most part, though I'm trying to keep moving other ways. I've been walking lots w/ DW...we actually walked over 8 miles yesterday and we even mixed in some short (~100m) pieces of running. I can also do elliptical training with no issues. I'm hoping maybe I can get back on the bike soon...that would really help from a cardio fitness standpoint.

I figure until I can do those little running pieces during our walks without any pain or stiffness, I have no business attempting to do a real run; I tried one last week, just 15 minutes and I was definitely not ready.

Anyway, this will be two weeks missed on the marathon training calendar but there's not much I can do about it right now. Just taking it day-by-day, week-by-week. That's all I can for now. At this point I'm still in the game for the fall races. But if this drags on a few more weeks I may have to make some tough decisions...either pulling out or adjusting my goals. Time will tell on that.

I'll try to keep checking in here, hopefully I'll have some good news to report soon.

Those are some nice miles, Runninlaw, building up during the middle of summer is tough but should serve you well. I see there’s a Badgerland striders half in Milwaukee Aug 27th, though I don’t know anything about it. Around here, I’d recommend Batavia half madness in the western burbs Aug 28 or the Chicago Half Marathon Sep 11, both pretty flat and well organized. I had a decent week:

Hey y'all. I'm back in it. My fall race will be the Harpeth Hills Marathon (aka Flying Monkey) on November 20. My only goal is to finish without suffering a monkey attack. Also, every fall my running club does a race in a local prison, running with prisoners around the exercise yard. I've done the 5k a number of years and the half last year. I might do the full just for fun. It will either be Oct 5 or October 12. The marathon is 78 laps around the yard.

This week's plan:

Monday: 6

Tu: 6 with 3 tempo

W: 5

Th: 5

F: something easy

S: 14

Su: something easy

Total: 40-45 miles
