Really burst into taper mode this week. Trying to keep intensity high and mileage low. Less than one week out now from the Indy Monumental. I wish I could taper my eating....

Anyhoo, here's the week:

M - 7.2, 7:50 pace (HMP)

T - 3.8, w 6x400 strides

W - Rest

Th - 4.7, w/ 5x800 @ 3:27

F - Rest

Sa - 10.5 - 7 easy, w last 3.5 at MP

Su - 5.5 easy

Total: 31.7... only 3 runs on the calendar this week before the big day on Saturday!

Good luck to all racers this weekend!

Hey all,

It's the final week of taper here too. Not much on tap running wise, just a few miles here and there to stay sharp. The bigger concerns are to eat right, sleep well, take care of my body and keep life as low-stress as possible.

I tuned up yesterday at the Marine Corps 10k (report posted) and it went pretty well. My "high" goal was to try and break 40 and I came pretty close, going 40:45, good for 60th OA, and 5th in the 45-49 AG. Heading into next weekend, and given how far I've come after my "slump" earlier in the cycle, I'm very satisfied with the result.

As for Sunday, while I'm confident, I'm still going to set a somewhat conservative goal of 3:20. But if things are going really well after about 15 or so, I may make a little mid-race adjustment.

swallen - good luck in Indy!

Last week (34 miles total):

M 10/25 - 14 miles on trail near home, final "long" run of cycle

Tu 10/26 - easy 7 near work during afternoon

W 10/27 - 3.6 TM miles w/ some light intervals @ 10k pace (200-500-800-500-200); core afterwards

Th 10/28 - 50 minutes elliptical

F 10/29 - 5k easy jog through neighborhood in evening

Sa 10/30 - rest

Su 10/31 - MCM 10k, 40:45

Happy running all...I can't wait until Sunday morning!
