Happy Monday everyone! This week held slightly cooler temps for me - I hope you all had the same. We have had a lull in races, but we look to have key races in just a few weeks. Hope everyone is keeping injury at bay and motivation high!

Happy Monday, everyone! Pretty good week for me last week. I ramped up the mid-week runs to account for a couple of short weekend runs (races) this weekend and next. We'll see how that goes, but based on this weekend's 15k trail run, I should be up for a half-marathon PR this Saturday! You never can tell.

M - Rest

T - 7.3

W - 4, including 5 x 800 @ 3:15 - 3:25

Th - 6

F- Bike 16

Sa - 11 (including 15k trail @ 1:11)

Su - 7.7

Total: 36 run, 16 bike

Have a great week!

Well, last week was a major cutback week for me. So it goes on vacation. I actually think I may have needed a little break so it's all good.

We were in Asheville NC for the week and had a very active vacation...lots of cross training I guess you could say. It was a little cooler there which was nice. Back here in NOVA it's still the dog days...high 90s today.

M 8/23 - hiked 4 miles of trails off Blue Ridge Parkway

Tu 8/24 - trail run of 11.6 miles at NC Arboretum & Pisgah National Forest

W 8/25 - biked 11 miles around town in Asheville, mainly greenbelt and arts district

Th 8/26 - kayaked 7 miles from Bent Creek (near NC Arboretum to Asheville greenbelt area)

F 8/27 - walked ~ 3 miles downtown

Sa 8/28 - travel day back to DC

Su 8/29 - soccer with my team in fall season opener, 2-2 tie.

I'm ready to jump back in this week, shooting for 55 total and capping it off with a weekend 20-miler. Hopefully the heat & humidity won't cause me to cut another LR short as I had to do on the last one on 8/21 (planned 18 was cut back to 14.5). I'm a summer person but I have to admit this one has even me longing for the fall to get started. Between the crazy winter snow and the summer heat 2010 has been the year of weather extremes in the nation's capital!

Also, I've got a benchmark race coming up on 9/19, a half marathon. I definitely don't think I'm in PR form (1:29) yet, so not sure what to expect really. The course is hilly in the first half, flat in the second so I may just focus on running a negative split race. I have a feeling that this marathon season I will be rounding into top form very late.

Nice running everyone!

Hey hey hey... late check-in for me from last week. Had a decent week and ended up running my LR in STL on Saturday morning with one of my sisters keeping me company on the last 9 miles, which is always a good time! This Monday (Labor Day) I'll be running the New Haven 20K again - it's a great race and the National Champs for the distance so some sweet elites always show up too. Hoping that Earl passes through and cools things down a bit before then.

Good luck this weekend Swallen!

Big G - Nice job on that 2nd 20 miler!!

Mindi – fabulous job on the 5K!!!

Hawk – your vaca sounds awesome! I love mixing it up from running everyday and just doing active stuff. Jason and I are heading up to VT this weekend for some hiking and boating, can't wait!

Zrun – I’m with you, bring on the fall!!!

Hey all,

Looks like some good running and training going on last week. Last week was the last high mileage week for me prior to USAF marathon. I'm into the taper now. Last week looked like this:

m - 5ez

t - AM: 5 ez PM: 4 ez

w - 6.6 ez

th - AM: 4.3 ez PM: 4 ez

F - 6 ez

s - 24 Long

su - 1.5 ez (I was cooked toast)

Total: 60.4 miles

I'm ready for the cooler weather too.

My PC is out of commission temporarily. Looks like everyone is getting closer to their goal races. I'm still 13 weeks off from CIM on December 4th. I think that still qualifies as a fall marathon. Starting to get serious now with the miles. Speedwork starts next week.

I dont know exactly what I ran on what days last week, except that i had 51 miles total for the week. Have not raced in two months but 12K tomorrow. Supposed to be cooler and windy with temps in low 60s compared to low 90s we've had all week it should feel downright pleasant.

Runninglaw,

I was just being a smart aleck. My race is the Jacksonville Marathon on December 19th. I sort of started training last week and I looked at my old logs the other night and realized I need to pay attention to my mileage. I am thinking my goal will be sub 4. See my post "Marathon Training Redux" That I posted in a separate thread.
