<p>DS's truancy meeting went about as I expected. The guy laid out the same consequences that I've been telling him all this time, but maybe hearing it from someone more official will have more of an effect. DS sat like a bump on a log grunting yes no and I dunno, though the guy wasn't having any of that I dunno crap. He said that wasn't an answer and to come up with something else.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the car on the way home I asked RJ if he hated me, because sometimes the way he acts towards me and speaks to me makes me think that. He said no, and I said but you seem sooo angry with me so much of the time, and I asked what had I done, or what was I doing that was causing this. His reply was that I moved him from Wisconsin. He is still hanging on to that after three years. I think it's significant so I'll bring it up to his counselor. I wish he could be more open minded and see the reasons I moved here - family, opportunities, just an overall better standard of living - and not just that I moved him from his friends and school. And he doesn't want to go move in with Dad because he wouldn't be going to the same school with his same old friends.</p>

<p>crap! I gotta get ready for work. No school today so no kids to get up and going. It's FABulous to have this nice quiet morning to myself. I thought about getting up early and hitting the gym but opted for sleep instead. <span><img alt="biggrin.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/biggrin.gif"></span></p>

<p>It's a mess out there today. We got a bunch of snow yesterday. Followed by a bunch of rain. Then it got cold. I got stuck on a hill with the car on my way to work. I was behind a bunch of other cars that couldn't move. Then more cars came behind me. Ugh. We were all stuck there until a public works truck came along and salted us out. Embarrassing.</p>

<p>In honor of many many things I bought the coffee of the person behind me in line at Starbux. Here is the "in honor of" list.</p>
<p>1. I have a half day today</p>
<p>2. My mom is coming down tonight</p>
<p>3. We are going to see Mama Mia</p>
<p>4. My birthday. I used my birthday money from my Granny to buy coffee today</p>
<p>5. I slept in today till 630</p>
<p>6. I get to go tubing tomorrow and then out to dinner</p>
<p>7. There's only 52 more days till spring</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I'm sure there's more but I can't remember right now. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>my desk at work is decorated for my birthday. there is a sign that says Happy 50th and my over head cabinets are covered in cutlery bags. </p>
<p> </p>

<p><strong>Goon</strong> - that actually makes a lot of sense. Kids spend so much time at school and almost 100% of their social identity is there - whether it be friends, girls, sports, whatever. I know my DH changed schools in high school and he was very upset at his parents for it and never took a liking to the school (actually he really hated it and I'm pretty sure he still does). What helped for him was his parents helping him find things he did enjoy and facilitating/encouraging him to do the things he liked (like sailing; his band; etc.). Does RJ have any specific hobbies? Or is there anything local he could start doing that he may like (I think my DH actually started sailing after he moved). Anyway, enough rambling from me. I am glad it went pretty well. That admission sounds like real progress to me. And I think that when an otherwise unhappy kid leaves counselling, talks to you openly, and then tells you he doesn't hate you for it --> it is big. In college, I got a summer job selling vacuum cleaners, and quit for similar reasons. I felt awful for taking advantage of people, so I quit, even though I was doing OK.</p>

<p>Ok, he wasn't officially truant, but he and his friends skipped as many days of school as they possibly could without being kicked out. They did get caught in Fort Wayne while cutting class by a teacher who was out of school for some reason. THey thought they'd be safe cause that's 1.5 hours away, but no. HEH. They did have to go talk to a truant counselor (or whatever they're called), but he didn't have to go to court for that. (Yes, he had to go to court for other stuff. He was a bit of a delinquent. <img alt="wink.gif" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/wink.gif"> He says it's because there was nothing to do in the country.)</p>

<p>Anyway, he said he was bored in school and tired of all the drama/bs going on there, and the counselor got Dh and his friend dually enrolled in hs and the local community college. He preferred being in the more adult environment, and was able to take classes he enjoyed. <- that last bit is what kept him in school.</p>

<p>FUN: I'm heading down to NYC this weekend to visit a friend. Well, technically NJ, she lives in Hoboken.</p>

<p>I asked my sis to drive me to work today because there is so much snow, I didn't know how I'd even get to the T with my bag. I opted for a back pack because wheeling a bag would be impossible. I was VERY grateful to her tho, and made her a latte when I made mine, as a little gesture, since I know she likes them. I'm taking Amtrak (I sucked it up and spent the extra $60 so I wouldn't have to deal with the bus) but I hear there are delays this morning because of snow and ice on the tracks. Sigh. </p>

<p>Just to give you an idea of what my 'hood is like right now...this car is directly across the street from my house:</p>

<p>Continued ((((<strong>BigG</strong>)))). My brother skipped third grade, leaving all his friends behind. He never really made too many good friends in his grade and went through a head-banging heavy metal, long hair period. He now has a PhD in aerospace engineering, a good job, and a family, so it didn't ruin him for life.</p>

<p>I think I missed how <strong>Litch's</strong> snowblower is working in the frozen tundra that is the Northeast.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I'm pretty sure I'm meeting a friend this evening for conversation and drinks. She had to be evacuated from Patagonia over the winter break due to riots and communal violence, and I can't wait to hear about it.</p>
