And fabulous it is. I woke up at 4:40 am to 22 degrees! Woo hoo. Am about to hit the darkness for 11 miles in these tropical temps and relatively clear roads.

Yee ha Mindi!

It's 22 here as well! I ran outside after we got home last night and it was soooo great to be outside. I WANT SPRING!

We're supposed to get a wee couple inches of snow this afternoon but it's also supposed to be a high of 30 so I think I'll wait and run again outside after work.

The good news is that we should only have the frigid temps for another month at most - right?

This mornings run was awesome!! The footing wasn't perfect, but the temps were great, my HR was at a good place and I was able to successfully pick up the pace as the run progressed. Just a tad over 11 miles. Now I need to shower up and work at home for a while. Unfortunately when I got back from my run, DS#1 was sick, so I sent him back to bed and am going to work at home until DH gets back. Hopefully I'll be a lot more productive than I was Wednesday - I have a ton of stuff to get done.

Icy run this morning. We got snow yesterday. Followed by rain. Then it got cold. Read: Mess. I tried the sidewalks first but it was brutal. So I went to the street and it was only a little better.

My half marathon is just over a week away (Feb. 6). So. I haven't gotten all the long runs in that I wanted. I'm not feeling terribly prepared. But I'll still try and reach my goal.

Run after work tonight. 7miles on the TM... gotta get a movie!

The temps here are pretty good, but the sidewalks/roads aren't cleared enough for me to get out... plus that whole sun going down thingy.

Morning all! Sounds like Mindi and I were running together; I got out for 11.4 miles this morning in great conditions - 31* and no wind + the WSH path was very runnable & mostly clear.

Colleen - what's your goal for the race? I also have a HM on 2/6

Sorry to hear about the crap night of sleep, Kath.

I've run on the TM four days in a row. I will run outside today at some point, I swear it...

I don't know when I will run outside again. It is getting depressing. I might be able to do some shorter runs at home up and down my street (about 2/3 of a mile), but it gets a little redundant for longer runs. Plus, no streetlights and iffy footing. So for my planned 6 tomorrow AM, I will be hitting the TM. Maybe a sleasy 2.6 on Sunday.

Did get in 3.5 on the TM this morning. Most of the roads here at work (where I normally run during the week) are in pretty sloppy condition, and a lot of the sidewalks are under several feet of plowed snow....

strength workout this morning...will probably not get my scheduled miles in today as someone else has the TM booked after work (Fridays I have to be here to teach a class at 9 am and I'm not motivated to get up that early to run in the basement) and her long run is a higher priority than my not-quality-run right now.

Litch - know how you feel. This year hasn't been horrible as far as snow for us but it seems that just when it's runnable out we get another 4-6". Spring can't get here quick enough...even if I am pessimistic and think we'll have snow on the ground well into March.

Little miss evil for me this morning. Rough night of sleep, so I didn't make it early for extra cardio like I planned. Tomorrow is a two hour yoga classes focusing on opening hips and shoulders. I haven't been keeping up on yoga as much as I would like, so this will be very interesting!

Maria, I really want to crack that 2 hour mark. But honestly, I'm not sure I can. Not this time. The closest I've come is 2:02 and change (I ran 2:04 and change last summer, too). Both those times were in clear, summer conditions. But there's all sorts of variables this time around. I haven't gotten out for as many long runs as I'd hoped. And you never know what the weather/footing conditions will be around here this time of year. I'll do my best, that's all I can ask!

WOo HOO on 11 miles for breakfast Mindi and Maria!

It just doesn't seem fair to have such a brutal winter after such a beastly summer!!

oo I have weekend class plans at the gym too! The same ones as last weekend really - Cable Strength on Saturday and Yoga on Sunday. I can't remember if I mentioned that this class is held in a "gently warmed environment". Wowzers. That was a first for me. I started to sweat just rolling out my mat. But jumpin jehosaphat did I feel good when I was done! I'm really looking forward to doing it again.

I'm planning for a few miles after work - different route tonight. I started on Elton Hills last night where every 4th house has apparently given up on snow removal, it was bad enough that I took a turn and finished on West River Parkway, which is not quite as well lit but the path was super clear and dry. I was wishing I had run my entire run on that loop last night, so I'll be running that loop tonight.

I know most of us consider the TM to be a poor, poor substitute, but given what I learned this morning it's sounding better and better.

At the Y this morning, the guy who scans our cards said she was a morning regular (I need to see a picture b/c I don't recognize the name). What he heard was that she was out running yesterday morning -- at 6:30 a.m. in pitch darkness and on 15" of snow. I said, "Why on earth did she go out for her run??" He said, very matter-of-factly, "She's a runner." I replied, "I am too, Ed, but I biked on my trainer in my living room yesterday because it was not safe to go out."

I feel terribly for the woman and even more so for the poor driver of the snowplow. How awful for everyone involved.

Be safe out there, friends.

While i like the warmer temps on my skin, I had them on the trails. Luckily High Bridge will be down to pavement (fingers crossed) tomorrow.

Hi all - haven't reported here much due to my time/computer issues, but I have been fitnessing on a regular basis. So far, have two runs (7.2 and 5.2 mi in length, respectively) in the books for this week, plus some assorted yoga and stuff. Now that I take the ferry and doing the VRAA this session, I realize how much walking I'm getting in to boot during a typical work week; depending on things, that adds 10-15 miles per week.

Going in for some ART around lunch time - hopefully it will hurt so good in a good way

Theia, you're definitely right. We all gotta be careful out there. The snow makes the roads narrower, and the cars can't stop as quickly.

I live in a residential neighborhood that has a bunch of wide roads that don't have heavy traffic. So I feel fairly safe out there. But believe me, I'll keep my eyes open...

Like I say, at some point today I'll get out there for a few miles. I plan on doing a long run tomorrow, and I have no idea where I'll do it...

Hi all. I have been such a lazy slacker. However, Wednesday I received two reminders of running. First an e-mail reminding me of that there is a 5k and Half Marathon in my home town on February 26th. Secondly I saw an old business friend who is a runner. He asked if I was still hitting the pavement and I thought "dude I weigh 15 pounds more than when you last saw me....." But anyway...... Well here I am back again. I'm sick of my current condition but it's all my fault and I'm the only one who can fix....me. So maybe this 5k in exactly 1 month will be a spark to get me going again. So tomorrow morning I am going to go running for the first time since last fall. There is a 10k here at the end of April. If I apply myself and be consistent I can probably be ready to participate in that race. I didn't say beat my best time.......I said participate. I have to get that squared away first...just do something and be active. Don't worry about times and all that jazz.

I am writing out a schedule similar to what worked for me three years ago. Gosh....time flies. But it's time to whip this boy into shape. It's going to take patience as well. I want to lose about 40 pounds (goal weight of 190 pounds) but 15 will get me back to where I started here. I was at 215 when I joined KR. After the half marathon in November of 2008 I was at 199. I can so do this IF I GET MY LARD BUTT IN GEAR. Even if I slowly and safely lost 2 to 3 pounds a month I would be rocking and come close to my goal by the end of this year.

I need to use you folks and this forum to help keep myself accountable. Due to circumstances at work changing, I do currently have access to the forums. So I really have no excuse not to get active here as well.

Anyway enough confessions..........I hope all of you are well and I look forward to reading about how everyone is doing.

Theia - thanks for the safety reminder, I feel more safe than many b/c I don't spend a ton of time on the streets but there's a monsta intersection I cross to get to the WSH path and it's a wreck in the snow with little room for me and a ton of aggressive drivers. Gotta stay extra alert!
If the conditions are agreeable, you should totally go for it! Because my MO has been to go out too fast I try to really relax and start slower and then lean into the pace mile by mile. As for my race I don't really have a plan or any goals. I'd love to better my PR but I don't think I'm in that kind of shape just yet however I do have a bunch of miles under my belt so maybe I can shoot for as close as to it as possible. I'll be happy to be running in shorts tho so my real goal is to soak that up and enjoy it to the fullest!

Even when I'm on the sidewalk, when I'm running in the winter I'm mildly nervous that a car will slip and lose control and end up running me over on the sidewalk. Now, before you think I'm overparanoid, I'm scarred by the story my Grandma told us about when she and her little brother were children and playing in their yard and a car lost control and careened into their front yard and killed her little brother.

I hope that didn't make anyone else overparanoid.
