I hate you!

I just attempted to run for the first time in 8 days and I was only a mile and a half into my run when I could feel it and had to walk home.

Why must you trick me like that stupid achilles? Why do you feel just fine until I attempt to run? Why do you choose three weeks before my first marathon to not want to heal?

I am so fucking frustrated because nothing I do makes it better and I cannot get a fing Dr appointment until after the marathon anyway!

Muzicgrl - I have been running off and on for 35+ years without an injury that sidelined me from any race until last year when my left achilles attacked me! To this day I don't know how or why it happened but I was on a 17 mile training run. Got a dr appointment and said I had 2 options. Either keep running a few more days and then come in for surgery to repair the tear or wear a boot 6-8 weeks. I chose the latter and it cost me my San Diego marathon. Took 6 months or more to get back to my present fitness level and still have flare ups with the achilles and think I always will now and my tender old age. But I'm back to 40-65 miles a week. Bite the bullet and take the time off if it is severe.

Stretching, massaging, icing...there isnt really anything else I can do without outlaying a ton of money I don't have. Its weird because my calves are not even tight.

I was seriously considering buying one. Is it better than the stick? Do you use one? What size?

Oh and I am going to go buy new shoes (the asics kayunos instead of the 2120). Hopefully having more support will help.

Hey Muzic - sorry to hear about the achilles Definitely try out the foam roller/stick and the shoes might help as well.

I know you can't outlay a ton of money (I'm in the same boat), but the guy I have been spending my cash on has been well worth it so far. Don't know if you want to give him a try, but I could give you a reference via PM if you want.

I figure you probably have looked into this as well, but have you heard of the Trigger Point Workbook by Davies(?) as well, especially if you can find a copy at the library? I forked over the money for a copy - I figured it might come in handy down the road
