Aw thanks. My running buddy and I ran 18 miles this morning and now we are gearing up to all go for Indian buffet It was great fall weather. As we were about 14 miles in, a group of bikers were coming towards us and as they got closer started singing Happy Birthday to me. It was my friends in my running group. I was so touched!

Bootiful fall run with some friends and the pups in Umstead State Park. Wonderful trails, someone should organize a race there.

No real long run for me. Just a slow 10 miles on Saturday morning than took my daughter camping at the local park. It was a blast. I also got to enjoy knowing that a couple local friends finished their first marathons at MCM this weekend, and had a good time doing it.

Yep, I finished….last place in 8:57:01. The important word there is FINISHED!!! Still good enough for 2nd AG, which I was very surprised at…I was told that 50K runner registration had increased over 100% from last year so I was pretty sure I was out…plus being last ‘n all. I figured if the hills were as bad as I knew some of them were from the course preview I went to that it would probably take me about 8 hours, plus most of my training (with smaller hills) was about a 15 minute/mile pace on most days. They were way worse. I think I read 13,000 ft in elevation change over 50K. Throw in a hip that decided to get really, really sore on me around mile 3 (!!!) and some tendonitis in the top of my right foot that also showed up fairly early, it made for a really long day. Neither of these issues were issues in training so that was a surprise. My hips might be sore after a long run but nothing an ice bath didn’t fix and definitely NEVER during a run. My ankle, which had been the only thing giving me trouble during training was not bad. It was a bit sore by the end but nothing major. Maybe it was overshadowed by everything else.

I’ve been having trouble with my Garmin charger so I ran Garmin-free for the race, which I think was a good thing…I would have been pretty bummed if I knew how far I still had to go. My race bib fell off my fuel belt and I had to put it back on upside down so instead of being 1011 I was 1101 for most of the race…I’ll put together a race report once I have time to relax for a bit…I took the day off to rest. I am moving around fairly well as long as I don’t sit for too long, then everything locks up. My foot worries me…it is red and swollen on top from my ankle to my big toe, but I can put weight on it and I can walk on it with no pain and I can flex it as I walk…but if I try to wiggle my big toe around it is painful. Hopefully it is just tendonitis and nothing worse. I’m icing it and taking my Aleve (none during the race!) and just trying to stay off it a bit.

Pounded asphalt with my friend Heather in the White Mountain Milers 1/2 marathon. Cool to cold temps and breezy on the homeward leg, and it felt really good. Bumped up my road mileage by about 50% for the year. Then we handed out candy to about 250 to 300 pirates, monsters, ballerinas, hobos, etc.

I may stick with the 50K distance for now....although my friend and I were looking at the next race before this one even was over...and I found a 40-miler in Santa Barbara that is over Thanksgiving...and I happen to have two sisters that live in SB so that could be a good family trip:) Next year though.

My friends and I did 20 miles Saturday morning in preparation for Tecumseh. Later that evening I met my friends for a Halloween party. I went as a runner. None of my friends were amused
