i have been sitting here doing jack squat when i should be biking and weight lifting and blah blah blah in the final weeks before the biggest race of my life.

i am always trying to farm my children out to other people on weekends so i can do races and volunteer at races. they will probably hate me when i'm older and my extended family must think i'm a horrible person.

the compression socks that i have raced and trained in all year are suddenly giving me abrasions on the bottoms of my feet that are really painful. i am afraid to use them for NC24, i'm also terrified to not use them. the sock situation is a big deal around here...!

I don't have any sins to confess (well none that I willing to talk about here ), but I will confess that I get more nervous before a marathon then before an Ultra. I don’t know why but to me marathons are work, and Ultras are fun!

I have my next 100 in 2 weeks and all I feel like doing is carboloading now for it Hopefully I will fit into my race day clothes

Hmm. My ultrafeelings? (More like ultrafears) I'm not recovered from the Hardrock 100 (and then Mountain RATS 3 weeks later)... so I'm going to get my ass handed to me at the Wastach 100 next weekend.

I have had an UltraTemper all of my life. It is something I'm aware of, and work to suppress.

I have not lost control in some time, but it was a near thing at a timed race last year.

I chose to quit running early and head home, rather than stay on the course.

Had I stayed, I'm sure I would have ended up confronting the volunteer that lit my fuse.

By confront, I mean punch.

I have been training for triathlons and focusing on improving my road running...and biking...and swimming. BUT...I signed up for a trail 50K in December!!! My last tri of the season is this weekend. Trails here I come

i miss the trails so much my feet and ankles have taken such a beating with all this northcoast road training, i just want feel the wood whips flinging up against my calves and dance around the tall tree roots before winter comes. but after NC, i've got canlakes.. another road race. i am tempted to say eff it and just hit the trails again, times and race specificity be damned.

i have gotten very zen in my longer runs now. when i ran for 12 hours on a 1 mile loop to practice, it didn't seem like a big deal anymore. running 50k as a training run on a saturday morning is just my norm and not frightening. i never thought i'd see this place...i feel so lucky

Change your photo to a dove or soft cuddly animal. It could seep into your pores and lessen your angst.

The topic of anger(and running) reminded me of an incident during a 10k road race Labor day. The RD at the pre-gun BS asks all the runners to please stay on the right side of road. About 2 miles in the rural road twists and turns and Doofus(my name for this runner) crosses over to cut the tangents and save some inches. He does about three times. I end up about two feet behind him and I politely remind him that the RD requsted for traffic control that we stay on the right. No answer. I assume he's too embarassed cuz he didn't reply. About mile three he reaches into his back pocket(has those shorts with external pockets) and pulls out a Gu. I don't think much about it except it is 10k and only mile three and he needs carbs? He tears off the top and spits it on the ground. I'm not sure if it's an accident or intentional but I do raise my voice and offer a few words about littering. He sucks down the stuff and I'm kind of hoping he gags as he is not taking it with water.

He then tosses the remains to the side of the road. It tweaked my pissed off button and offered some loud words about being a yada yada slob. Mind you, I doing this at 6:30 pace in short angry bursts. Again no reply. No he is not deaf. He is younger and faster and is soon a minute or more ahead. It's probably a good thing that I couldn't catch him or I would have shoved him over the guard rail with an Ooops, I lost my balance. The finish line was congested and I did not see him - probably best.

I found out later who he was. It was a church putting on the race so I didn't bother to report him. They would only have prayed silently for his soul. Don't worry he's not getting off. He happens to be in my running club and I happen to write the monthly newsletter. I will not mention his name but I will write a short piece and highlight the incident. Even add a gif or two of a pig. I'll get even not angry.

I am excited to hit the trails again. Trying to figure out how to stay on the trails and keep training for triathlons. I will figure it out sooner or later

You can probably do about 80% of you tri running on trails but throw in some roads as you get close to the race. Many of our local tri geeks do their long runs on the trails and do very well. The softer trails offer mucho contact forgiveness.

I did a half-iron tri a couple weeks ago, no specific triathlon training; this year I just did ultras, some routine swimming on recovery days from running and some epic mtn bike rides; like an idiot I was up until midnight before putting my tri-bike back together! I found the lack of any speed work hurt my time, but this being the shortest event I've done all year I felt fresh as a daisy at the finish.

But my vent now is I'm feeling definitely ultra wiped and trained out at this point in the season, hoping I'll feel good for a 50 miler on Sunday.
