18 miles thru the 'hood. Saw lots of nice animals. It was not hot, but very muggy and a little sprinkling of rain. I was hoping for a nice, cooling rain, but that never happened. The cambered roads are starting to bother me and I may run on the wrong side of the road some days to balance it all out I see like 1 car every 10-30 minutes, so no worries :D

I dragged my hubby to IL to run an awesome little 8 hour called HOWL at the MOON :)

it was his first ever ultra ... first ever race over the ONE time he did a half-thon ... he kicked aZZ ... 39.48 miles in 8 hours in 90F heat!

my darned IT band flared up really bad about mile 21 1/2 with 4 1/2 hours to go ... I went into survival mode at that point and changed my goal from 45-50 miles to pretending I was around mile 80 or so of my first 100 miler and needed to do whatever it took to make it across the finish line :)

I'd purchase a stick massager a couple weeks ago and never used it but brought it to the race with us ...when I got back to our homebase (3.29 mile loop is the race, we had a shade shelter and chairs as our personal AS near the start/finish area) I grabbed that stick and rubbed the heck outta my leg and decided I would just carry that bugger with me for the rest of the race ... and I used the very odd basketball shuffle trick to move faster that I'd discovered the first time my IT hit me like a lead balloon back in January on a FA 50k ... the last 4 1/2 hours of my 'race' consisted of walking, rolling & stretching and then alternating 25 sideways shuffles on the right, 25 on the left and then try my best to limp out a 50 step job before repeating the walk/roll/stretch routine again ... it was a LOoooooooooooooooooooong afternoon ... but I made it another 19 miles doing this ... and I kept going even after my last lap ... there was an optional 1/2 mile out and back section you could do if you didn't have time for another full lap ... I did 2 of those in my last 14 minutes with 5 minutes to spare ... I thought of attempting one more out and back but if I hadn't gotten done and turned my straws into my scorer before that 5 minutes was up I'd have lost all additional 1/2 miles, so I just took the 2 and called it a day ...

I made it nearly 40 1/2 miles and still captured 3rd Masters Female ... had hoped to be in top 3-4 OF, but I'll take it ... and I know I am tough and can hang thru injury ... so it was a great learning experience! :)

VERY proud of my hubby ... he kicked butt and is still smiling ... hoping I can talk him into doing more of these with me!

Now ... need to get this IT band under control and hit Oilcreek in 11 weeks!!!

Did a nice 5+ hour run up along the Continental Divide today, about an hour west of my house. Fall is coming...it's been getting near freezing up high (above about 12,000'). The highest tundra is getting crunchy. Our alpine summers are so short, I hate to see them go.

There's a little snow left, but not much:

Good wildflowers too:

Been waiting to hear from you - wondering how it went....

Congrats to Mr. Sporti!! Awesome result; I hope he had fun!

As for you - so sorry to hear about that IT band... WTF?!?!?

Of course, I'm not surprised to read how you gutted it out - Basketball Shuffle Queen! Way to go - mile 80 sucks.

Still... Time to get that thing in check before Oil Creek. (Although, I have every confidence in your ability to gut it out there, too, should trouble strike. )

Extreemely pleased to read about your weekend. And to learn that there's another ultramarathoner in your family!

Way to go, Mr & Mrs Sporti! I'm jealous: Mr G will never be joining me in a race. At packet pickup for Run to the Sun, he was bragging that he was going to sleep in and pig out at the hotel breakfast buffet. BOOO!

Saturday: My current favorite run/hike: 11 Bridges.

Sunday Morning: Road training up Gold Camp Road. This was a big week so 17 miles on tired legs. Ginseng seemed pretty tired too.

Sunday Afternoon: Ginseng and I joined my husband on a quick 3 mile hike. I had recovered from the morning, she had not :(

Next weekend: Maroon Bells Four Pass Loop

More proof that CGerber is the Kevin Bacon of Colorado Ultra Running. I'm reading a random Maroon Bell's trip report to decide which direction we should go. The report's author references a group of Special Idiots and links to a Grand Canyon R2R2R trip report. Guess who was on that trip? Yeah, Chris.

Did a great 16 mile run along the Pacific Crest trail, starting where it cross I-90 an hour east of Seattle. Started early to beat the heat as it was forecast to reach 95. Turned around a small alpine lake up on the crest but not before taking a quick(cold) swim. Regretted not bringing a camera as the flowers were out in full force and the views were spectacular.

My goal for this weekend was two good back to back longish runs. I ran 19.5 altogether over Saturday and Sunday. I went for my first group run on Saturday on a trail I had never been to -- Little Sac River Trail in Springfield, MO. Ran 10.25 miles, and met some new people who were slightly faster and cleared the cobwebs for me , which was fun...didn't take any trail pictures but I thought the course map from my Garmin was rather amusing. We started at the bottom of the loop pictured. It is hard to tell without really zooming but none of those paths actually crossed except the last couple of miles we doubled back to get them done:

Sunday I dropped my husband and son off at the river and went back to town and cranked out 9.25 miles before church in about 100% humidity. My clothes were literally dripping with water despite there being no rain. It wasn't much fun but I got it done.

sportigirl - congrats to you and your husband!

cgerber - great shots as usual

lkshiller -- your route looks like a mangled zombie hand reaching out for brains. Just saying.

And bang up job to everyone else I missed.

I headed to Luray, VA for the International/Olympic distance triathlon on Saturday. It took me just over 3 hours and the swim was brutal for me. I seriously considering DNFing about 5 minutes in. I managed to get a grip and pulled it together. I meant to run long on Sunday but was too tired so put 40mi on the bike instead. Back to long runs next weekend. I swear.

Low clouds over Luray on race morning:
