So, I opened someone's spreadsheet that had a big "Page 1" in grayscale across the center of the spreadsheet. Then I opened on of my own spreadsheets, and it has the same "Page 1" across the center of it. I'm assuming that feature somehow carried over from one to the other without me actively changing anything.

How do I make that go away? Anyone know?

In the View menu, make sure "Page Break Preview" isn't enabled.

But, it's an easy way to format page breaks when you want breaks where they make sense rather than based on what fits on a page. For example, you might have 12 columns of monthly data w/ quarterly & annual totals. While five columns might fit on the first page, it might make more sense to force breaks at the end of each of the quarters.

I'm sure you're smart enough to have figured this out on your own. It's just my 2¢ & why I love Page Break Preview.

Excellent. I use PBP now and again when I want to adjust my print breaks on a page, but that's about it. Otherwise, it bugs the bejeebers out of me.

My spreadsheet is enormous. I have to run it on 12x18 paper, so it helps to have the page break preview sometimes. When I'm managing the data, though, I don't want a 3 inch PAGE 1 right in the middle of the page.

I love Excel.
