My ongoing shoulder pain is very likely due to some wonky running mechanics (it's been bothering me since before I introduced swim workouts). I'm supposed to video myself running, and as soon as I can figure out how the heck I can do that, I'll do it.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone ever had their mechanics evaluated and an explanation of that experience.

other than just a video of me running on a TM at a running shoe store, I haven't had a "full" evaluation. This was just basically a video in slo mo of my legs and feet so he could see my footfall and push off.

How about getting a coach to evaluate your running action.

It's one thing to video your form but would you know how to correct your faults.
A coach, and by that I mean a qualified coach (not a shoe salesperson) will give you drills and or exercises to correct your form.

That would be step 2, Ziggy. Step 1 involves a bunch of sports psysiologists evaluating my form to figure out what is contributing to this recurring shoulder injury. I was pitched two options by my chiro: either drop by his facility and he can video me running (and shoot a live feed off to his colleagues), or video myself and he can send the clip to his colleagues. The former would cost me a LOT of money that I don't have. The latter would be the cheaper option.

not yet. but it has to be done before I'm allowed to return to running. I noticed that my gait was "off" when I returned to running and thought it work itself out. not so. Anyway, it's about $150 for the analysis from the guy I'm going to see. My friend went through the process with great success. Like Ziggy said, it's more than just analyzing a tape. you run, they review, they may make an adjustment. you run, they review....

Shoulder pain is sometimes associated with breathing problems.

I had it done 6 years ago...part of a package with a personal coach...2 video cameras mounted on a bike that followed me and then preceded me. One was from waist up the other from just above the knees to my feet.Took videos at 3 speeds (might have done a 4th if I had a "FAST" gear).

Pretty boring to watch for an hour or so...don't look for it at Blockbuster

I really had no flaws...except being built like a hockey player.
