Howdy folks - I had a brain fart and forgot about the POTD yesterday Apologies.

1. Why do you run?
I started running consistently (and entering races) after watching my now-wife finish her first marathon in spring 2005. I was pretty overcome with awe and emotion seeing her cross the finish line, after watching her work so hard during the 6 months she trained. I felt like I needed to have my own little slice of that joy.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
I guess getting through medical school would be up there. I'm sort of unsure about how to answer this one since I don't really mark periods in my life by accomplishments... I just sort of live day to day and try to make things go smoothly. I'm probably short-sighted because of this but I don't think I'd be happy only being motivated by "accomplishments."

3. What is your motto/theme song?
"There but for the Grace of God go I." In my work I see a lot of people at their lowest moments, and I frequently remind myself how lucky I've been in my life. No major problems, no serious illnesses, the love of a good woman, a steady line of work, and plenty of leisure time. I've had a lot more handed to me than a lot of people in this world.

4. How do you deal with bad runs?
I commonly have bad runs when I eat Taco Bell. Seriously, I have been running so infrequently lately that any run is a good run. But in the past, when I was better about getting my 4 or 5 runs a week in, bad runs were motivation for the following run. I'd usually over-exert myself trying to make up for the bad run, and pay for it later. But these days when I'm lucky to have done more than 1 or 2 runs a week, there isn't much that could happen to make it a "bad run."

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
My self-reward system usually involves the purchasing of expensive gadgets... maybe it's better that I've been getting less runs in lately

6. Who do you admire most?
I think my cliché answer would be Mohandas K. Gandhi. His combination of skills -- beautifully elegant writing, eloquent and powerful public speaking, and an unbending discipline to practice as he preached -- are rarely embodied in a single person, and are qualities that I can only hope to sniff from afar. In my personal life I admire my wife most of all. Her sense of humor, her ability to find good in every person she meets, her unparalleled work ethic, and her fantastically kissable cheeks are truly amazing.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
"Start low and go slow."

8. What do wish you had learned younger?
I definitely wish I had learned that running is an enjoyable sport when I was a kid. Having played soccer most of my life, running is what happened when coaches wanted to punish a player or team. I think if I had joined the cross country team in high school I would have been much more fitness-oriented as an adult and possibly a bit happier.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't?
Aside from running milestones I wish I could accomplish (a sub-3-hr marathon, sub-20-minute-5K, etc) I wish I could rebuild a car from the ground up.

10. How would your friends describe your personality?
Pretty mellow, easy going, probably semi-comatose. I'm pretty quiet especially in group situations. But amongst close friends I can be downright silly.

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?
I usually wear the standard running shorts from NB or Nike, and usually a tech shirt. I used to run in soccer shorts and cotton T-shirts, but after my wife bought me some tech clothes for Xmas a couple years ago I definitely notice a difference in comfort. I don't really have a favorite outfit; if it were up to me I'd run in the same shirt and shorts every time. But DW has put the kibosh on that after realizing what my clothes smell like after a run

12. What has been your favorite race?
Probably Pacific Shoreline Half Marathon in Feb 06, I had a PR of about 1:46.

13. Do you have a goal race right now?
Right now I'm registered for the Carlsbad Half Marathon and the Surf City Half Marathon... if I am able to finish either in my current state of fitness it'll be a major feat.

14. What makes you happy?
My wife's laugh, getting my ass out for a run, having a good day at work, not showering, and very large cups of coffee.

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.
I secretly wish it were legal, ethical, and acceptable for me to smoke large quantities of marijuana on a daily basis.

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).
Mmm.... I don't think there's anything I know of that you all wouldn't know already.

Thanks for reading.
Nice POTD El Dude! I do believe the world might be a better place if everyone shared your sentiments in #15
