OK, I said I would edit this when the results were posted. I was close with my guesses. I finished 3rd among 24 women, and 20th overall (with relay teams included) and there were 53 finishers. Here are the official results. You have to scroll down to the Duathlon:

http://www.ontherunevents.com/results/1349.htm

I have been waiting for the offical time results to come in before I posted my RR but I am tired of waiting. I actually have my "offical" time, I just don't know the exact number of people at the race. I will edit this when the results come in.

After this race I decided that racing is like childbirth: because it's hurts so bad while you are doing it, but once it's over you can't wait to do it again!!!

So saturday March 22nd was my first race of the year. A sprint duathlon down in Olympia. And when I say sprint, I mean sprint. 1 mile run, 11.5 mile bike, 1 mile run. I did this race last year too. It's a great race to do in early spring when you are just sick of training and aching to get to race. The best part about this race by far was racing with my husband, who just 4 months ago got winded walking up the stairs, then at my triathlon club's end of the year party ended up getting one of the bikes at the auction and has actually been using it over the last 4 months. He was pumped about this race, however, he ended up going out way too fast on the first run and never really recovered from that. But he finished and in the end the first thing he said to me was "I need to get out and run more" rather than the "I'm never gonna do this again" that I was afraid of. As a side note, I can say to you guys that I was pretty happy I beat him! When we have gone out on rides he kicks my butt! He did his first mile in about 8 minutes, averaged just over 17mph on the bike and I am not sure about the last mile.

We could not have asked for better weather. By race time (gotta love a 2:30pm start this time of year) it was sunny and 50 degrees. I wanted to do well but I figured I wouldn't do as well as last year. I was in the midst of Half Ironman training this time last year and getting almost 10 hours a week in. This year has been a slow recovery from a stress fracture I got the end of October. No speed work for me since then. But all the speed work I did leading up to the stress fracture still payed off big time. I only have an "offical" finishing time of 54:14 but according to my own clock my first run was 7:15, bike was 37:40, and second run was 8:40, the rest was the short transitions. Last year my finish time was 54:54. I was amazed by my run!!! I am a chronic 9-10 minute miler but 7:15???? WOW! Last year I did the first run in 7:55 so great improvment for me. I was also very happy with the bike, averaging exactally 18mph on a course with small rollers. I had decided early on in the race that I would leave everything I had on that bike. I could muster the last mile run no matter what but I didn't want to finish the race feeling like I still had fuel in the tank, thus the 8:40 mile but I am ok with that and my stragedy worked and I beat my time from last year. And I got myself some hardware. 3rd place female overall (did the same last year only this year there were more people there!) This is a total guess but I would say there were about 25 women there. I finished 22nd overall (actually I would say 19th because 3 of the finishers ahead of me were part of a relay team), and I think there about 60 people.

Now, let's get this season underway. I am ready to race again!!
