My little cycling club has a new challenge, and I invite participants from my friends here. It's simple. If you can hold 1000 watts for more than 30 seconds you win a set of Zippy Wheels gold wings. I need to work out a value for women still, it's not 1000.

I'm at 21 seconds and bearing down on the target.

You try, and post here.

Intriguing....scary but intriguing. I'd be interested to see what number you come up with for us chicks.

well, i'd need to hear from some female powertap users about appropriate max power for 30 seconds. I'm guess 600 would be a good stretch for a fit woman.

its a lot of your ATP-PC system power, so it's rough to hold it for the full 30. I make 1000 at 17 seconds, but plummet down to 735 by 30.

it's mostly a parlor trick, like ringing the bell at the carnival to win a cigar. Makes you suck wind for a few minutes after, we don't usually do a lot of "all out" efforts in endurance sports.
