I recently got a recipe for some energy bars that calls for wheat germ. I'm going to make them this weekend.

Ignorant question: what do you use wheat germ for? I've never bought it before yesterday.

I haven't used it for a while, but you can use it to replace part of a cup of flour in bread and cake recipes.

And I have an awesome pancake recipe that calls for it. (If you like whole wheat pancakes that are so sturdy you don't want to eat too many!)

I found this online, I think it's the same recipe:

Old-Fashioned Pancakes

from Laurel's Kitchen, page 94

* 2 c whole wheat flour
* 1/2 c wheat germ, or more flour
* 2 t baking powder
* 1 tb brown sugar
* 1 t salt
* 2 large eggs
* 2.5 to 3 c fresh milk
* 2 tb oil

Stir together all the dry ingredients.
Beat the eggs lightly and combine with the milk, then add to the dry ingredients and stir briefly. Stir in oil.
Heat the griddle, until water drops dance on the surface. Only a little grease should be needed on the griddle. Pour the batter onto griddle by large spoonfuls. Cook over medium heat, turning once when bubbles come to the surface and pop, and the edges are slightly dry.
Makes 16-18 pancakes.

I use wheat germ in my doggy bisquits.

My dh makes fun of me saying that the dog eats healthier than the people in our house. I suspect, like others, it's a healthy flour substitute

I buy the toasted wheat germ and put it in my yogurt. I like crunch.
