It is quite possible that one of my cousins will lose her two mothers this month.

My godmother (and my cousin's birth mother), my Dad's younger sister is suffering from a particularly nasty cancer. Was admitted to the hospital with a collapsed esophagus due to damage caused in the treatment, and then caught C Diff, even though they isolated her immediately on arrival.

My Dad's oldest sister (and my cousin's adoptive mom) died after a long decline following a stroke. In her case her death was a blessing, she had been suffering for so long with many debilitating mini-strokes and dementia. She was 81 and perhaps the first of my Dad's siblings to die - he has an older brother that nobody has been in contact with for over 55 years.

My aunt was a sweetie. Her other siblings had left the country for Montreal and she stayed behind and so had a very rural outlook on things. I wouldn't say insular, but definitely not cosmopolitan. She did her best by her family and raised them all to be decent loving people. Her eldest child (my cousin) is older than her youngest brother (my uncle), but that was not a rarity in Quebec pre 1960.

I can't make it to the funeral, but will go if my godmother dies - I have to make choices here and it is hard. Oby at McGill didn't really know this aunt and so I don't expect him to go to the funeral.
