Take it off? Keep it on?

Been riding for a year with this helmet. Sometimes I like the bill, because it shields some sun, and keeps rain off my face, just like a running hat. Sometimes I hate it because it seems like I have to lift my head more when in aero, which makes my shoulders and neck hurt more.

I take mine off. Can't see anything with it on when I'm in aero.

I finally took mine off because one time this last summer, in the middle of my tri, the damn thing flipped down in my face and I couldn't get it to stay where it belonged. So I ripped it off.

I have two helmets. The commute helmet has the bill on, a red blinkie light on the back, a white blinkie light on top, and duct tape covering 80% of the vents (will remove in Spring). It's looks rad.

The other helmet has none of that and makes me think I look cool.

Speaking of woodstoves and fireplaces, can you burn (in a healthy manner) wood from broken crates? The wood is raw, unfinished, and just needs to be cut to size. I imagine it would burn just like a log.

Thor, one winter we had the idea of burning "slabwood" which is the bark and outer park of wood cut by sawmills. We built up lots of creesote and had a chimney fir that rendered our chimney useless, henceforth ending our woodburning days.

Isn't that wood pine? I suspect it would build up a lot of cresote, but would be fine for one of those outdoor systems

My dad has been burning HUGE pallets that he cuts down to size, has been for years. He cleans the chimney every year right at the begining of fall and the only problem we have had was the fire got to hot once and the out side air to cold so it shot a flaming ball out of the chimney. Only happened once but it was damn cool to see.

Any way I don't see why you wouldn't be able to burn the crates as long as your chimney was already clean.

Hmm, I would do it - if it's not been treated with anything, it shouldn't matter. Yes, do get your chimney cleaned every year or two.

A LONG time ago, we wanted to get rid of a downed utility pole in our yard, so we cut it up and tried to burn it. Only a few pieces before we realized it was coated with creocote and smelled like, I can't even describe it. We probably cut our lifespans short with that one. The shame of it was, when we called the borough to see if they would take it, they said they would have been able to use it if we hadn't cut it up.

We also burned bamboo once - don't ever do that. It pops so loudly it sounds like fireworks going off right in the house.

No, I actually held that stupid thing in my hand for the last 5 miles of the bike portion and tucked it in my bag in T1. I didn't toss it because there were so many people around and I didn't want to impale someone!
