I make no apology that I am going to post this across a range of forums on here to try and see if I can attract some attention to a thought I had last week when I was at the Surf City Marathon with everyone.

Every time I come over to America, meet up with fellow Kicksters from here, everyone mentions how they would love to come to Ireland - one day! And run the Dublin Marathon. Now, I appreciate that not everyone can drop everything and book flights to Dublin, plan a marathon, enjoy a Guinness or two, find a hotel, meet up with friends, run a marathon etc., so here's my thought....

The 2009 Dublin Marathon takes place on Monday October 26th - That's 20 months away, plenty of time to plan ahead, and maybe make the decision to come to Ireland for a Global Kick Trip. I can sort out hotel plans as the gym I use is part of a hotel complex that has adequate rooms and I am sure I can reach an accommodation on a decent price, obviously a bit far ahead to be accurate at this stage - At present they charge €89 per night, per room, which works out at around $130 at present exchange rates, I doubt it would me much different, and there are no added taxes to pay, that's the price you pay.

I can't say on flights, obviously depends on where you come from, but October is usually a cheaper month to fly, so hopefully it's not beyond the realms of peoples pockets -

It's just a thought, but it would be a blast for everyone I am sure, and you can sample some of our renowned hospitality - and Guinness

What thoughts?

DUDE! Theia and I will be fighting over that one! Or maybe not..

I *might* be living in Europe by then, so I *might* be able to plan something like that!!

Wow, that's definately worth considering. Might fit into my schedule. I've got enough Freq Flyer miles to get there.

Questions:
1. Do we have to run on the wrong side of the road?
2. What's to stop it from turning into a 26.2 mile pub crawl?

Can't tell ya that one, but I can take you to his recording studio, and the U2 Wall, and his hotel, where he often calls into - plus Lillies Bordello (niteclub) that he frequents ....

We aim to please

We'll let you run down the middle of the road -

And we do the Pub crawl after the race, it's a sort of duathlon, 26 miles and 26 pubs afterwards - can you manage that?

Now that sounds like an event that I can train for! Beer mile speed work on Tuesdays at the track. And, I'm going to have to train up to the heavier beers too.

Is there a half as well? Dh and I have been talking about a Dublin trip, he has some college friends there as well and any chance to drink with you again is enough incentive for him. But the ultimate reason...Oct 26 is my birthday! That would be the best birthday party evah......

Screw that - I hear those European marathons are 42.2km long! I can manage 26.2 miles, but 42.2km just sounds crazy-long! How long is a km anyway?!

My sister is moving to Europe soon so I fully intend to use that as my European headquarters for tackling more races there. I've done Amsterdam before, but would love to do Dublin, London, Berlin, Rome, etc.

Sounds like a blast but with the possibility of going on a cruise next year, I wont have the fundage to make it over there. That an I dont have any plans on running a full marathon anytime soon.

Ironically, Radioyada and I "might" be in Dublin a month earlier... for our 15th wedding anniversary. It totally depends on finances, schedules, etc, but that's our hope anyway. We're quite interested in castle tours and things of that nature. And of course, any safe, scenic running routes that we can find!

Well, make sure you get in touch before you come and I can fill you in on all the right places to go, and certainly to run

Liam

PS - As yet, no relay - We have 11,000 running the 26 miles, but who knows what they might do next year.
