I make no apology that I am going to post this across a range of forums on here to try and see if I can attract some attention to a thought I had last week when I was at the Surf City Marathon with everyone.

Every time I come over to America, meet up with fellow Kicksters from here, everyone mentions how they would love to come to Ireland - one day! And run the Dublin Marathon. Now, I appreciate that not everyone can drop everything and book flights to Dublin, plan a marathon, enjoy a Guinness or two, find a hotel, meet up with friends, run a marathon etc., so here's my thought....

The 2009 Dublin Marathon takes place on Monday October 26th - That's 20 months away, plenty of time to plan ahead, and maybe make the decision to come to Ireland for a Global Kick Trip. I can sort out hotel plans as the gym I use is part of a hotel complex that has adequate rooms and I am sure I can reach an accommodation on a decent price, obviously a bit far ahead to be accurate at this stage - At present they charge €89 per night, per room, which works out at around $130 at present exchange rates, I doubt it would me much different, and there are no added taxes to pay, that's the price you pay.

I can't say on flights, obviously depends on where you come from, but October is usually a cheaper month to fly, so hopefully it's not beyond the realms of peoples pockets -

It's just a thought, but it would be a blast for everyone I am sure, and you can sample some of our renowned hospitality - and Guinness

What thoughts?

I can't commit to anything next week at the moment let alone months away, still would be a sweet idea!

Yep, but it's easier for you, you only have to pop across the Irish Sea. Our US friends don't get a lot of vacation time and have to plan things ...

Ryanair will pay you to fly over, won't they? Or it'll cost like 1euro.

If anyone wants to see what the marathon is like, here's a few snaps from this year.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/1576506...7602798375456/

I've watched it two years now, and it is a great marathon. A great course. And the crowd support is fantastic. And the post race pint is the best in the world.

I'm sure it won't be difficult to get there.

Are there any other distances, I'm still out of action and would prefer a half if there is one

So, you're NOT part of the Chicago Irish, eh? You learn something every day!

I would love to do this and bring my wife. It's also the land of many of my ancestors.

I asked my wife if she wanted to go to Dublin next year for a marathon.

She looked at me, her eyes were saying What the fuck are you talking about? (in French).

I'll work on her...

Nettie, we think of you as one of the family, so you must be Irish

Everyone - This is doable - Come on Over

She loves Ireland, it's the running part she doesn't quite understand...

I don't like Irish people (well except for my dear departed mom) so it sounds like a good place for me.

I also hate running and beer...so it could be perfect.

What's the forecast for that day...I can't get it on weather.com ???

Zoom Airlines often has $169 (taxes in) one way flights to Dublin and Belfast from Toronto so it's actually cheaper to fly there than New York, Boston or Philly...places I can drive to in a day.

I wonder how much it would cost to drive to Dublin from here??
