1. Why do you run? It started out as cross-training for cycling, then as a way to get back in shape after having a baby. I became a “Runner” after ex-husband left me for a younger gal and I wanted to prove I wasn’t old. Now I run because it’s part of who I am.

2. What is your greatest accomplishment? Learning to be true to myself.

3. What is your motto/theme song? Do or do not, there is no try.

4. How do you deal with bad runs? I rarely have bad runs, but if I do I analyze the week leading up to the bad run to see what went wrong.

5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How? Sometimes. Long runs are followed by a hot chocolate in the winter, chocolate milk in the summer. After races I get to eat whatever I want for the rest of the day.

6. Who do you admire most? Anyone who follows their own path.

7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received? Live your life backwards… ask yourself “what will matter most when I’m 90 and telling stories to my great grandchildren. Do I talk about that week I forgot to mow the lawn or didn’t have time to do the laundry, or do I tell them about a 3 month bicycling trip, a trek through China or a weekend adventure run?”

8. What do wish you had learned younger? Not to settle for mediocre.

9. What do you wish you could do but can't? Like a lot of people: sing.

10. How would your friends describe your personality? Intense, kind, quiet.

11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit? Anything Brooks. My current favorite is a Brooks running skirt in Mango, black Marathon Maniac singlet, Brooks Glycerin shoes and Smartwool socks. I always wear diamond studs for racing… they are my good luck charm. Oh, and Dirty Girl gaiters when appropriate.

12. What has been your favorite race? Haulin’ Aspen Trail Marathon in Bend, Oregon.

13. Do you have a goal race right now? The Boston Marathon

14. What makes you happy? Watching my son explore a new interest. (right now it’s playing the guitar)

15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past. Some people already know this from another forum, but I was born without hip sockets and wasn’t supposed to walk.

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!). Hippo doesn’t really look like a hippo and LabDuck doesn’t look like a duck.

Love # 7 and your reason for running.
I did not know about the hip socket thing. Wow. Again I say, run because you can, what a gift.

Looking forward to seeing you again in Boston.
Thanks for sharing you with us.

Dove, what a pleasure it is to "know" you better thru this today. You have some profound answers here. I am going to spent some time tonight journaling about #6 and 7.
Thank you. And good luck in Boston.

Dove, nice to learn more about you!

I like your #7 too. I've been feeling nostalgic and pensive lately, and arrived at a similar conclusion about how to prioritize things.

Also, re. #15: wow!

And you don't look like a dove...you're MUCH prettier!

Also, for those who don't know it, Dove is Mrs. Labduck's running fashion icon!

That was a great read Dove! Thanks for being POTD and allowing us to get to know you a bit more! I probably haven't told you this before, but you are truly an inspirational runner to me.

Thank you Dove. I will try to keep your advice in #7 in focus. This is not the first bit of wisdom I have learned from you. Our discussion over a year ago on quantity vs. quality was another little epiphany for me. You are a very insightful and inspiring person in addition to being a talented runner. Your son is most fortunate. I look forward to the day our paths cross.

I almost missed your POTD post.

Thanks for sharing info about yourself. Your running accomplishments take on a whole new meaning now. Like others, #7 really resonated with me.

How in the heck did I miss this? I was looking for an update on your training this week and stumbled across it. Sorry it took me so long. I enjoyed reading about you, even though I knew about 99% of it. One of my favorite pics is the two of us right after the finish at Haulin' Aspen, so I smiled when I saw it was your favorite race.
